Bear has discovered that Letterbox Springs are available on the 'bay - so some time may be spent seeing if they have a suitable one to fit the flap on Bear Towers.  Some of the prices are a Grade A P1ss-Take though......🤣

Good morning all,

Happy Anniversary and Birthday greetings to the Bellamy household.  Hope you both have a great day.

It's a bit dull out and forecast to stay mainly dry and cloudy all day along with the odd bright spell and chance of drizzle. 

7°C now, might get up to 11°C.

I have long thought that building works and DIY tasks should be illegal over the weekend if you are a retired person so have added that to the statute books at GDB Towers.  I will resume the skilled  repairs on Monday.

Domestic tasks have been added to the agenda for this morning as we have visitors later.  Nicki and Darren are coming to dinner tonight but will be coming round earlier to watch the rugby.  My daughter inherited my love of the game long ago (as a fan, not a player) 

The Boss has descended from above so I suspect that breakfast is imminent.

Other than changing a few hinges, my DIY work today will be for sport, namely finishing the rudder, and varnish the seat..

The other plan for today is another dig at the mound.

4.5 hours sleep, plus two hours sleep. Not too bad I suppose.

 

Ben the snoring Collie had to be called from his pit this morning, though he'd had been up and around earlier. He a bit disappointed today as I'm having porridge, so no bit of bacon for him. He is lying alongside me on the sofa though. He seemed to enjoy his patrol but he cut it short.

 

There are even more Galanthus out there , I don't know the varieties, but it's likely they are Nivalis aka the common snowdrop. Like the primroses in the garden which are Primula Vulgaris, I suspect they are natural plants not planted by previous owners.. unlike the thousands of daffs..

 

The forecast for next week is mostly sunshine so I predict the covers will be removed from Blue Moon and the hull will be prepared for the coming season. The sides and deck  need a sanding, followed by painting and varnishing. The antifouling line needs moving up, along with the rudder needing antifouling.

The rudder needs installation , the centre console also needs installation after painting.

 

Time to. Go fit some hinges.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Thank you all for your good wishes and commiserations. @iL Dottore his medication is in good hands, my niece was a trained paramedic until an accident at work forced her to quit. She will be at the very least co-ordinating his care. The likely outcome is that he will either go into a hospice or receive hospice at home treatment. Its a surprise that he is still around considering his kidney failure four or more years ago and some subsequent health scares since.

Not a good nights sleep, everyone including Sydney very restless and getting up walking about. Swmbo had breakfast at 2.00am and as I couldn’t sleep I followed at 2:30.

Good moaning from the Charente.  First off thoughts are with @PhilJ W and family.  Not a good situation.  Also many congratulations  to the Bellamy household.  We have a date coming up this month when it's a Friends birthday, our daughters wedding anniversary and the anniversary  of Beths dads death.  Quite a mixvof emotions. A suitablr glass will becraised.

 

We've just had our usual hour talking to the girls.  Emily was her usual chatty and delightful  self. One of the topics of conversation was the dates of our visits over the past three years.  We all have difficulty with 2020 and 2021, the lockdown years.  It seems that they have become conflated in our memories.

 

Anyway I'm off to chop some kindling.  Then this afternoon  we're going to an 80th birthday party but have to escort the 92 yr old Belgian widow.  She will be delightful company.  This evening we're attending some sort of hunt dinner at the village hall.  Something to do with fox hunting.  We'll probably be the only Brits there.  No doubt a good and alcoholic  time will be had.  Fortunately  our stagger home is only 150 yards.  It could be a long evening and the street lights will be out when we do come home.

Good morning everyone 

 

It’s still grey outside, but at least the wind and the rain have gone and with a temperature of 9C which is expected to rise to 11C later today it’s very mild out there. I shall shortly be heading off to collect Ava, who will once again be spending the day here with us. This morning Ava and I will be in the kitchen baking a small batch of strawberry shortcake cupcakes, so of which will be eaten after tea tonight. 
 

Thoughts with Phil and his family.

 Removed from Mound...

2 wheel barrows of soil, used to top up the wooden  raised beds/ wall at the front of the house. They're actually in a terrible state having been hit too many times by vehicles.

Future thoughts of using hollow breeze blocks, that might make the car drivers pay attention .

 

1 wheel barrow of rocks, concrete, bits of metal, I.E. foot long rusted bolts, and the remains of a broom which obviously had U bend galvanized steel brush hairs!!! Lots of them... They're now deposited into the area of the future moved shed.

 

1 wheelbarrow load FULL of daff bulbs, temporarily planted in the raised beds as they needed a home quickly.

 

Will go and have another round of digging shortly.

Morning all.

It isn’t raining but it is quite cloudy. Aditi told me this morning at about 9.30 she had been down in the night for a snack and also had her breakfast at about 8am and was going shopping and left me a cup of tea. She wouldn’t have woken me otherwise. I must have slept for about 10 hours. I will finish off any vacuuming today so that the house is tidy enough for visitors. I did offer to cook the meal for tonight but Aditi said she would do it. She has already made the puddings. I am not totally sure what she has gone to the shops for, I wasn’t fully awake. The M&S food store on Canvey is on Aditi’s list of shops that she is happy to visit. It is quite large and not crowded. Most of our food is still delivered. Meal tonight will be something “English”. We have had lots of Indian food recently while Aditi was teaching herself to make roti (chapati).

On weather, we're enduring a cold snap here (global colding is real!!), with temperatures plummeting to 22C in the daytime, it's got to the point people have had to switch the air conditioners off to keep warm. When will we learn, we need to flare off the North Sea gas fields immediately to warm the place up.

 

We mix food here. We have a 14 years old daughter who wants SE Asian food for every meal and a 15 years  old son who'd happily live on burger, pizza and french fries for every meal. Oddly, the culinary styles we all like collectively are Japanese and Korean. The boy loves Japanese and Korean and my daughter likes it as do my wife and I. So Japanese or Korean is an easy default when eating out.

Mrs mole was released discharged from hospital yesterday.  She rang me at 10 am to ask me to come straight up as she thought it was imminent.  Having slept in slight I wasn't fully dressed, hadn't had breakfast and had a couple of things to do, so ended uo taking a cab and arriving at about the time the bus would have.  I spent the morning in the ward chatting to her and the other ladies; she had lunch, I went to get some, waited a bit more, and at about 2.30 she was told that the transport was between 5 and 9pm.  So I left, took a bus to Sainsbury's and went home.  She turned up at 5.20.  She's managing ok on crutches to get to the toilet, only a short way from her bedroom, but is p***ed off at having her mobility restricted for 6 weeks.

Dark. dull, cloudy, 7.8C, today. The light is on. But at least the room is a bit warmer at 10.7C.

 

Toot on the flute a bit wobbly at the moment over a very short phrase on the above flute which is harder to play than my other one. It will come but in the meantime it is not doing my confidence or morale much good. However, cheerfulness is lurking in the background.  With lotus flower transfers varnished, my next job is to get one onto the "pond" on the flute and see if I am happy with it...
