RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted January 23, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 23, 2023 Mooring Awl, Almost 7 hours sleep with just a couple of wake up and turn overs. Trouble is I woke with a headache. Kits, I've not that many, especially for things that run on parallel bits of metal, that's not for want of trying, there are just few that are suitable for my plans on the second hand market, the new ones are quite expensive. Bins.. I built a bin cupboard in the wall in the drive by the road, we throw things in the bins from behind the wall, the bin men take the bin from the front of the wall, sometimes they even put it back in.. There's no pavements within a couple of miles of our house, most people leave their bins on their driveway by the road. Some of the few terraced houses have to leave the bins actually on the road, as their front doors open almost directly onto the road and the roads are less than two cars wide. They must drag the bins through the house each time. Round here underground rubbish conveyers would just fill up with water, especially in the three villages I can see from our garden, one village is at -3ft ASL the other two are at around 0ft ASL. Oh joy, the weather womble has just said another two days of frosts with a high of 3C. Today's plans, Assemble the last two cupboard doors, Do the changes to the centre console, to fit the hull of Blue moon. Maybe a bit more work on the rudder. Time to lie back and do notalot till Ben the I want out Collie stops snoring. 19

It's filling those drawers, shelves abd cupboards of shame that helps manufacturers to make their profits. Anyway, good moaning from a cold Charente where it's hovering round about zero. We still have snow ligging around so it will be interesting to see what happens. We had a good afternoon up at the Salle de fete. Galette and frangipan tart was eaten, wine was consumed and much good conversation was had. Even though we can't vote we were made very welcome. In the evening we spent over an hour chatting to Martin and Katie. Today some logs need bringing down and then it's time to dig two mor foundations for another water butt. Regards to all. RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted January 23, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 23, 2023 Morning, le rock is 8c - eight! wow. No idea if it is wet or not, still dark. Today will mostly be....doing very little, as Mrs NHN did the washing yesterday for some reason, I'm not complaining. My car is being serviced in the Bright Lights of Ramsey, dropped it off last night, so no wheels today. My pal is taking me down to get it late afternoon. So who knows, maybe muddling time will be had, given it is feasible to heat the garage as it isn't windy.
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted January 23, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 23, 2023 Good morning all, Frosty and foggy here. A chilly day with light winds, variable cloud and bright spells along with the chance of some light rain or drizzle is forecast. Currently -4°C and it might warm up to 2 or 3°C. Missed posting yesterday. Got up late following a late night Saturday with our friends. A splendid time had and I got to bed at 02.35. Spent yesterday clearing up, doing some repairs to a shelf in danger of collapse in a kitchen cupboard (it was a bit overloaded) and then catching up on rugby (4 matches) along with watching Vera. A quiet day expected here, only one task scheduled which is a walk to Asda and maybe a bit beyond if the joints allow. Have a good one, Bob. 5

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted January 23, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 23, 2023 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Had a good nights sleep last night, five hours plus two hours. I had a dream but I can't remember what it was about now. No problems with Arthur Itis and the eczema is behaving itself hence the good nights sleep. Still -1C hereabouts but not even a hint of fog just some high cloud. 16

RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted January 23, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 23, 2023 (edited) This morning started dull but there was no frost, the bird bath water was liquid again. I mentioned I felt tired yesterday so I gave church a miss and instead used a home service sheet from Covid days. Then I watched Alan Titchmarsh, had coffee and read while lunch cooked. In the afternoon I fell asleep for a while and then continued reading. Then the evening was a crossword and I watched Vera. As usual I spent most of the time working out where it had been filmed. Where the body was found and where the factory was were on two different rivers. It was enjoyable though, much of it was filmed barely a mile from home. RMweb Gold Popular Post BoD Posted January 23, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 23, 2023 Afternoon all. Valerie’s foot showed a lot more bruising this morning (along the side not sole, Neil) so back onto 111 this time online. A nurse from the local Community Hospital (which does now have a minor injuries unit, Tony) phoned back ten minutes later at 10.50 and made an appointment for 11.30, which was realistically as soon as we could get there. Walked into hospital at 11.28 seen at 11.30, x-rayed, fracture confirmed, moon boot fitted and there will be a follow up appointment with fracture clinic arranged. All this done and out in forty five minutes !! Thankfully it doesn’t appear to be a particularly nasty break. Enjoy the rest of your day folks. 1

Others are available of course. I'm waiting for Monty Don to return to the screens and tell me how I should be growing stuff. As opposed to how I actually can in the space and time available! In other news have you noticed the temperature lately??? It was freeeeezing at 04.45 this morning. And I do mean literally. Huge frosticles everywhere, the car park was an ice rink where usually it has been a muddy hollow (@HappyHippo may wish to take note) and I was the only one with USB-rechargeable hand-warmers in use at the House of Fun. Two colleagues ordered the same make on the spot having felt how warm my hands were. And we have an estate-agent's valuation of the Australian house once vacant possession is available. As-tenanted there would be additional costs to ourselves but vacant and as-seen (so without anything done beyond the required post-tenancy clean-up) the estimate at auction has gone way above what we thought. Expecting $550-600K we are now told the "falling and challenging" market will bear $675-715K. Not too shabby for a $195K purchase 21 years ago. We spent a bit on it of course. New roof, electrics, plumbing, air-con and sanded / polished wood floors. Plus a full repaint. We are progressing matters. There might be enough equity there, coupled with our existing funds, to buy the retirement cottage for cash within 12 - 18 months if the UK market falls as sharply as some suggest. Back to the reality of a Moan-day afternoon and the book is in progress - slowly but surely - and Dr. SWMBO is WFH on the grounds that it was too icy for her liking when she tried to leave; one tiny slip and she would be over on the deck with no-one on hand to help her. Getting herself up is not a strong point. It's still icy; the front door faces north and therefore never gets direct sunlight. In this weather the path is often frost-covered all day. But today it was more slippery than it has been. And the Little Red Driving Box is hidden beneath another sheet of ice. A warming chilli con carne is on the menu for later. My job is to "do the cooking" - hers is to chop the onions for me! 18

RMweb Premium southern42 Posted January 23, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 23, 2023 ' afternoon all from red dragon land, Back from hibernation brought on by the appearance of those ads and pop up thingies. Good not to have them floating around. 👍 Down on the trax, yesterday. We were not sure we would be running tr**ns as some rail sections and points were iced up the day before. However, it was +4C and slowly thawing ice was broken up and rails cleared, and it was go go go. Even so, with woolly hat down over ears and forehead, and snood covering cheeks, nose and mouth, what was left of my face felt the full force of the bitter cold wind coming into the cab on the run round from the shed to the station. I was certainly glad I had forked out on a pair of base layer wool leggings. Any colder and my bib and braces would have gone over my jeans as well! As it was, I had two fleece jackets and a thick shirt over a wool sweater, plus, I wore my thinsulate lined gloves. All nice and cosy! Very cosy, thank you! Having said that, at least I was not sailing from Caenarfon to Birkenhead, Bordo and Wiclo as mentioned in the most moving version I have heard of one of my favourite Welsh traditional songs mentioning these places. Views of Caernarfon port and dock bring back memories of sailing to places such as Porth Dinllaen, Pwllheli, Aberystwyth, Fishguard and Milford Haven, only between May and September. Mae'r holl longau ar y cei yn llwytho Pam na chaf i fynd fel pawb i forio? Dacw dair yn dechrau warpio Ac am hwylio heno I Birkinhead, Bordo a Wiclo Toc daw'r stemar bach i'w towio Golau gwyrdd ar waliau wrth fynd heibio All the boats by the quay are loading Why can’t I go like everyone sailing. There are three starting to raise the anchor And sailing tonight for Birkenhead, Bordeaux and Wicklow. Soon the small steamer will come to tow A green light on the walls while going by.
Grizz
Afternoon All Been a cold and overcast day here in the Deep South. Just stopped for a cuppa. Got a bone to pick with number one cub….when I get home. We are having the en-suite re done at the moment. Mrs Grizz has gone for a classic white tile for the shower and part of wall. This is the view this morning….Beeky chastard. Haven’t had the b*lls to show Mrs Grizz yet. Have a great evening all.. ATB Grizz 1
