RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted January 18, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 18, 2023 Afternoon Awl, The rock appears to have had slightly more Snaa than us. Yep I was working in the workshop when it arrived for a couple of minutes.. then it stopped, so I left the workshop for the house to find a trail of foot prints in the Snaa. And an 11 foot toblerone leaning against the back of the house.... Yep Blue Moon's boom had arrived, so I brought it into the house to unbox, boom 10ft 6inches, toblerone box 11ft, house 15ft from front to back wall, and it had been end loaded... That was fun getting it out. All intact, two / three Deltics worth., so it's now sat with the old one.. Too darn chilly out there to trial fit the sail to it and it to the mast yet. Oddity, ordered from a Newcastle suppliers, as they were cheapest and had a two week delivery promise. It arrived from the main stealers in Derby, who charge more and have a six week delivery backlog!!! Hallway improvement scheme. A kit of parts has been made for two doors for one cupboard. The other cupboard is hard against the wall in a corner, so required a stand off making so the door could hinge to the wall. Therefore another stand off was needed the other side to match, then a bridging piece above the two. For the bridging piece, I didn't have the right wood, so I've laminated up four wooden blind slats to the right thickness having trimmed them to size first. Ben the, time for my long walk Collie, then took me on patrol, wind is increasing as a depression is travelling down the north sea, so I was pretty chilled by the time we were back. Hot Soup was definitely required for lunch... Also arrived an RAF tie, emblazoned with the Fist and Sparks badge, and a Trade group three / RAF Locking badge. Time to head to the shed to see if the heater drying the glue on the laminations can be switched off. 22
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted January 18, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 18, 2023 There is n't much to write about my activities yesterday, in the morning Asda delivered the groceries and I continued tidying. Breakfast was my last food of the day, in the afternoon I took the MoviPrep to get me ready for the colonosopy this morning. I finally got to sleep after 02.00 You will have to imagine the rest. This morning I left home at 07.45 in case there was a lot of traffic, I was at the hospital by 08.20 and had a leisurely walk to the endoscopy department. The procedure started about 09.00 after a detailed explanation of what was involved. It was completed shortly after 10.00, I had tea biscuits and feedback and came home. All is well, there is a bit of age related deterioration and a couple of polyps have been removed but that is all. I feel now I can get on with my life again now I know that there is no real problem, just IBS. I've had a nice piece of salmon for lunch and am now going to have a nap. Sadly he sold up and the new owners are now a cross between a fix it place and a tyre dealer; I've never heard any bad reports but for some reason I just don't have a warm feeling about the place. Now that Ricky is no more 😢 and it's Micky the MG instead I always use the MG Dealer as they don't charge the usual silly main dealer rates and also do a good job. In other news..... The Beary Goobers were cleaned n' polished by the Fang Polisher earlier - that's 1/3rd of a Deltic I'll not see again. Pah!

There isn't a lot of choice if you are (or rather were) forced to share your workspace with a bonfire. In other news some small-ish pieces of wood arrived yesterday with the intention of being attached to metal fittings at each end. Those, in turn, would have created folding legs to secure beneath the base of a new muddling project with level-adjusting feet to deal with unven exhibition-hall floors. Wood was sized and ordered to accept the fittings, was labelled with the expected size but the wood is too small. It is not 44x44mm but 34x34mm. Despite what it says on the label. Which matches what the barcode suggests. They can replace that with what I actually ordered, please, and at no additional cost to myself. I wanted to crack on with that job. Reports suggest 54 of 70 passengers were slightly injured and the rest unharmed. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Initially declared a major incident, police attended the crash, which also involved a motorcyclist, on the A39 near Cannington at about 06:00 GMT. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ The above taken from a news site . As someone who knows the location I have a couple of observations , I will not try to guess exactly what happened . The coach as pictured is facing the way it came , eg, back towards Bridgwater , it has traveled down hill , not a steep one but down , it looks like it did a 180' rotation and then fell over, possible after hitting the kerb that is visible . As this was 6-00 AM it would be dark so the chances of seeing ice might be reduced , no street lighting here . If as has been stated , that a motor bike was also involved it's possible that taking avoiding action was the initial starting point . RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted January 18, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 18, 2023 In other news today's casualty has now been reported as comfortable some hours after becoming today's casualty right under my nose. A young chap who, it turns out, has an existing medical condition pre-disposing him to blackouts, had one as the train doors opened. The back of his head rather than the soles of his feet made first contact with a very unforgiving stone platform edge. He was hauled carefully but quickly the couple of feet out of immediate harm's way and clear of what is currently referred to as the "platform : train interface" then was treated on the platform by yours truly, a fellow passenger who had a handy supply of tissues, and within two minutes the station medics were there. Plenty of the crimson stuff from the back of his head, partially stemmed by the tissues, though he was (after the initial blackout which lasted just seconds) conscious and responding normally throughout. All in a day's work. Unusually I was at least thanked by Duty Management. Such things more often go entirely without further comment. 9

Popular Post Ian Abel
HUMP day... Not much to report from yesterday. Mrs spent time with a grand-niece, somehow the schools had TWO days off for MLK observance this year, no !@$!@$!@$ idea why that was/is necessary! RANT ON The story (so far!) Rental property scheduled for some pest abatement in late December. Renter had identified a company to perform task, contacted them, had them inspect/quote. Company sent email contract to renter to electronically sign, she said NO, contact/have landlord create account as they(we) want to be billed directly. Company have me set up account, send me email contract, I sign and return. Work scheduled and completed. Company extract charge from RENTERS credit card as they had it on file - NOTE: Even though she had NOT signed anything! No problem, had her deduct from January rent. Company send her invoice stating PAID, she provides it to me for our records. done deal, right??? NOOOOOOOOOO... I'm NOW getting email reminders to pay the outstanding invoice and the possibility of a late charge. My "account" with them shows the charge and the service provided. I've called "support" who sound like they're based in the expected/ubiquitous "foreign location". After 20 minutes on the phone with them, including on hold TWICE while the individual checked with a supervisor, I was informed the local office needed to handle it. Can't get them on the phone, they're never there. Left voicemails, no response, sent nasty-gram no reply. How is it possible for a company to have the explicit data for the same service done on the same day/time at the same address, by the same service tech., not realize they're double billing!! BOTH invoices show exactly the same datag with a photo of the same tech! They're IDENTICAL! If you hear of a pest control company building in a Minneapolis suburb mysteriously catch fire or have shite thrown at their door, it wasn't me 🤣🤣🤣 RANT OFF -2c overcast and windy first thing, zero the expected high. Carry on. 2

A mate works for Telstra and offered me a freebie one of their own landline setups that customers have knocked back at install time because they have their own handsets etc. Anyways, I gave one a go. As a piece of consumer designware its a bit of a fail, the buttons have a slight squishy cheap plastic feel and I don't like the oversized font on the keys, or the key layout BUT it has this thing called Call Guardian. If a number thats not in my white list (made up of my contacts list and previously accepted calls) calls me they get a response saying "Please state your name" before the phone rings at my end. The call will not progress to ringing me until they do. If they do say their name then it rings me and when I pick up the phone it will say "You have a call from X" and I can decide whether to accept it (press 1) or block it and put it in my blacklist (press 2). If they dont say their name (which Robo callers wont, nor most scammers) the phone never even rings me. Result is zero robo calls since install (I almost wrote Robbo call there, I have a workmate called Robbo who sometimes calls me at work , I'll have to think of THEM as Robbo calls now...) and much reduced begging calls from charities etc (which I can still block by pressing button 2 when the phone tells me who it is.) . BT do the same thing here, so we don't get nuisance calls on our landline any more. Dave 11 3

I once helped deal with an incident where a double decker hit a car that pulled out in front of it. the bus started to rotate without any problem until the rear wheel caught a tree root on the verge it then flipped over. Fortunately it only had the crew on board both of whom were OK. Sadly that was more than could be said for 4 of the 5 occupants of the Austin Allegro. Apart from having to threaten to arrest an onlooker for getting her youngsters out of bed to watch the Allegro being emptied, things went quite well. It was fascinating watching the bus being righted. From memory (This was 1977) the bus self righted from about 45 degrees. Rocked back and forth a couple of times and was then driven back to the nearby garage where it had been heading. Jamie 13 4

RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted January 18, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 18, 2023 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. A pleasant surprise when I went out to the car prior to a trip to Tess Coes this afternoon. I was expecting to have to de-ice the car but it was completely clear despite the lawn being 'crunchy' still. Only needed to get my bread, milk and eggs and a few other items. I filled the car up on Monday, £1.44.9 per litre. One thing annoying me was that at the toy fair on Saturday I purchased some American 1/64 scale diecast vehicles. I've built up a little collection of them and I intend to display them in a diorama. There was too many for the box that I was storing them in so I decanted them into a larger box. I intended to add the new purchases to them but now I can't locate them. 9

Ozexpatriate
We mentioned the Kraken the other day. Coincidentally this giant squid (8') is in the news today: CNN: Extremely rare footage shows sea creature off the coast of Japan Meanwhile a dead whale washed up on an Oregon beach. (It was struck by a ship.) They're not going to blow this one up. The plan is to let nature take its course. King tides are expected soon. EDIT: Apparently the naughty word filter does not like the species name of the whale - I'll leave you to guess, or click the link. RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted January 18, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 18, 2023 (edited) Nice to hear of all the folks without snow. Last night the environs of Hunt Towers had three inches of the stuff, which fortunately was not enough to bring the district to a complete standstill. My entertainment for the day was watching two cockwombles in a town car park who had parked on a downslope nose on to a wall trying to get out again. There were lots and lots of other spaces that they could have chosen but being clever they had chosen the two nearest the pedestrian exit that, unaccountably, no-one else had gone into. During the day it has been thawing but there is still enough snow and slush lying to cause trouble now that it's freezing again.
