monkeysarefun
No significant snow to report either, just hit 30 but with lovely ocean breezes - perfect beach weather but not everything is idyllic in Sydney right now - from north of Manly down to Bondi and beyond the surf is poor, though the Bondi webcam shows theres those still willing to give anything a go. ("Dangerous" storms due later apparently..) Edited January 18, 2023 by monkeysarefun 14

Well I've very nearly sufficiently pondered a colour scheme for the H/S/L refurb - just the woodwork (skirting, door architrave and dado rail) to ponder now; white would be easy but as I use oil based paint I'm wary of yellowing so a light colour may be in order. We'll see. Bear's left shoulder has been a pain over the last few days - literally; multiple pink (and sometimes white) pills have been deployed but haven't fixed it so far. No idea what I did to give it the 'ump, but it's givin' me the 'ump. Turdycurses. In other news...... Apparently today is National Winnie the Pooh Day. Sounds good to me. RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted January 18, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 18, 2023 Morning all. I don’t think there will be too many people sunbathing on our local beaches, it is rather chilly. I put the bins out and the front lawn was quite crunchy with frost. I will be going out later to the Land Rover garage in Chelmsford for them to diagnose the sim reader on my car sat nav. I have already suggested it needs replacing not diagnosing. RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted January 18, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 18, 2023 I'd enjoy a bit of cold, stinking hot day here, I think I could literally fry an egg on the pavement (and being Singapore the pavements are probably clean enough to do so). I have been booking flights, out of interest I used a VPN to check Singapore Airlines UK prices and managed to stay on that sight long enough to find prices an awful lot lower than they are here before being locked out. SQ prices here are ridiculous. They're a superb airline, service is impeccable, flights are direct to the destinations I need to fly to and the whole experience is polished, but there's no way I can justify paying more than double compared to other good airlines. 3 1 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted January 18, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 18, 2023 Good morning everyone It’s another frosty start here in England’s northwest corner, currently -2C and with last nights rain, it could be slippery out there. I’m at the surgery this morning for a blood test (PSA) so I plan to leave a little earlier than usual and walk a little bit slower than I normally walk, just to be on the safe side. Royal Snail have informed me that a package that Sheila is expecting will be delivered this morning, between 9:26 and 13:26, Sheila will be a happy bunny when it arrives, it’s a cashmere jumper and costs about the same as a small locomotive, so when I do order one, it’s not usually questioned anymore! Back later. Brian 19

The Adult Content Filter stops Puppers from getting through......Bear is at a very impressionable age, after all..... Very disappointed, my reputation is shattered! I've never been described as adult before in all my 6.5 decades 🤣 In Other News I braved the sub-zero temperature last night to do some astronomy (or more correctly, I set the gear up and told it to get on with taking 300 photographs of the sky and then went back indoors into the warm). I've not tried taking so many images of the same thing before and just short of the 300 the camera's SD card was full and the battery was exhausted. Still, 290 odd images is many more than before. I started to process them last night but it kept falling over and then I realised the source drive to which I'd transferred them to was full. That's the trouble with having an under-resourced, over-worked and rather old computer (A bit like the NHS? - Controversial!). So I transferred the images to another drive and this morning I've started the process off again ........ UPDATE ..... If this process completes without falling over I'll eat my hat! RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted January 18, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 18, 2023 Good morning all, Frosty here again but we have some blue sky. Patchy cloud and sunny spells forecast. Currently -1°C rising to 4 or 5°C. Looks like some Shark wielding is required along with a quick shopping trip for milk and bread and I still need to get some petrol as I didn't do it last week. Haven't used the car for eight days. Time for porridge. Have a good one. Bob. 21
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted January 18, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 18, 2023 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Not as cold this morning but still a chilly -2C and not likely to get much higher. A bit too icy to risk going out with my dodgy legs this morning so any shopping will be done this afternoon.

I've found that Brittany Ferries do something similar and always book on the UK site . Having accounts in both countries helps. Anyway good moaning. There is crunchy grass here. Fitst time for several weeks. However the log burner is doing it's stuff. Yesterday I tried using a cement mixer, powered rather than manual, for the first time. I even got my first concrete footing for the water tanks cast. I did cover it and this morning it has gone off but I'll leave the shuttering on for a few days. I did get my cul (ar$e into gear though and after the trial run have now dugbout and set the shuttering for footing no 2. Now back inside for finger ends to thaw out. Then it's time for shower etc. After that it's off to the fang mender to have a crown fitted. Deep joy. This afternoon I plan to do the 2nd bit of concreting. I suppose that it stops me getting bored. Regards to all. Jamie 15 1

General faffing about so far, including shifting the uncollected ebay stuff back into the muddlin' room. Poo. Sustainable 'caskets'? (Like wicker or cardboard?) It is now legal in Oregon for one's remains to be composted. The whole sustainable funerary market will likely grow quickly. (No pun intended.) There are various non-traditional options available. This was something I looked into for my mother and there are several cemeteries within an hour's drive offering 'green' options, sometimes at a higher (though not grossly so) price. I've seen cardboard coffins advertised locally. Shrouds and bio-degradable coffins are options here: https://www.doncaster.gov.uk/services/births-marriages-deaths-nationality/woodland-and-meadowland-burial 5 9
RMweb Premium Popular Post The White Rabbit Posted January 18, 2023 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 18, 2023 Morning all. Another day of a light dusting of snow and blue skies. Definitely 'a wee bit nippy out'. Not much going on except for some minor IT issues and some tidying. Waiting for some medical calls so don't want to start anything too involved. For those with more snow/sna, this seems like a good idea: This, maybe not such a good idea...

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted January 18, 2023 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 18, 2023 Shopping shopped and petrol tank filled. Pleasant surprise with the latter as the last time I filled up was in September would you believe? I didn't until I checked but I'm hardly using the car. Petrol then was £1.639 litre, today £1.499 litre. Once again I question whether it's worth the cost of having a car but it is very convenient and will get used more once Spring is here. Shark wielding has been postponed until tomorrow. Boy am I gutted about that, I can hardly contain myself. Time to do a spot of reading before lunch. 20

I had asked her not to leave home to collect me in case they were unable to get the part supplied for a while. I am quite happy for it to take a day or so , I prefer it to multiple trips to Chelmsford and back. I know there is a Land Rover garage in Southend but I would prefer not to go there. My neighbour did and I value his “recommendation”. Aditi is thinking about a trip the French Alps when the weather is a bit warmer. Doing similar trips was why we bought the car as it met all the environmental requirements for places we meant to visit. Covid intervened so it hasn’t really had its intended use. RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted January 18, 2023 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 18, 2023 A'noon. Sunny and blue skies now, a blistering 6c and the snaa is mostly gone. A still breeze though, making the 'feels like' 1c. @PeterBB that was a 'library' photo from the heavy 2012 snow we had, that is the most we have seen here. I wouldn't be venturing out in it to play trains now, too many bits have broken on this skeleton since then. It was a fun day though, the loco cleared the whole line without human assistance. Well, bar lighting it up in the first place. 16 2

Tony That's good news. Which all dealerships were as good as that. Relative of mine was messed royally around by Jaguar last year. He was without his car for about three months whilst they sent for a chip from Japan. This was prearranged with them and they still insisted on waiting till they had it before ordering it. They then tried fobbing him off with a hire car that had to be returned. To say he wasn't pleased would be an understatement.
