Popular Post Ozexpatriate
Today is a blustery day. Lots of sustained winds with stronger gusts. Last night's weather forecast went into tedious detail about hour by hour projected wind strength and direction for various local regions but I didn't listen carefully other than to expect wind in excess of 50mph. Out walking I was trying to decide if the wind might be destructive. There was a lot of fir debris including small branches, along with plastic garden furniture in shrubbery and at least one fallen fence. At one point in the open at the high school playing fields I thought I might have to tack into the wind to make progress. It is plenty blustery enough to bring 'Owl's House' down. I was barely home when the power failed - down/up/down/up/down in the space of a couple of minutes - which isn't good for appliances. It's about 8°C outside so not terrible. The cable television/internet supplier informed me via SMS text message that I might have a service outage. I certainly did but with no power I wasn't worried if the cable or WiFi modem worked. (Obviously) power was returned and systems appear nominal - after a little less than two hours. It's also raining. A lot. We should be all caught up with any rainfall year-to-date precipitation deficit by the end of the day. EDIT (almost an hour later) A momentary power outage - long enough for the cable and WiFi to go through their reboot sequence. This will get old if it keeps up. (First world problem.) EDIT (at sunset) Now evening and I've realized that the decorative lights on electromechanical timers need to be reset, along with the clocks that reset after the second (short) outage. RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted December 27, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 27, 2022 Tonight has turned wet and windy. Tomorrow is forecast to be at least that bad. Ready to welcome me back to the House of Fun no doubt. It's been a quiet four-day break but the alarm is set for silly o'clock once more so I have to hit the snooze button now. G'night all. 3 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted December 27, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 27, 2022 (edited) Bear here..... Yesterday? Well I started out in a not very bouncy mood - I'd been invited to see friends who I hadn't seen since before the Great Wooha started, but a certain Bear (being decidedly un-bouncy) was decidedly "sitting on the fence" (actually leaning significantly towards the "stay put and not drive an 80 mile round-trip" mode). But then Bear received a message from "on high"........ "I think you should go" spoke the Voice of Wisdom...... So Bear (after yet more pondering) thought, "ok, I'll give it a go and see what happens - if it all goes to ratsh1t then there's always the next 364 days when I can stay put in Bear Towers". And pin the blame firmly on the V of W. And was the Voice of Wisdom truly wise? Well yes, as it 'appens; there were eight of us and it turned out to be a pretty reasonable, laid back afternoon & evening after all, so no regrets whatsoever (though I did note a distinct lack of LDC 😱). Friend's son (16) has discovered the joys of Airfix kits and by his own admission is decidedly "in to them"; very early days, but shows promise. So has Bear discovered religion? Did Bear receive a directive from The Highest Authority there is? Not quite..... So who exactly is The Voice of Wisdom? Puppers @PupCam of course...... Thanks Puppers. 👍 Today? Well I decided not to set the alarm for once - and woke at ten to eight. Disgraceful. The day has intentionally been a somewhat quiet one - sorting and deleting emails (or which there are many - in many folders) in an attempt to remove unwanted dross and make those that matter easier to find. A start has been made - it'll take several days yet..... Edited December 27, 2022 by polybear 10 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted December 27, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 27, 2022 Evening all from Estuary-Land. All my troubles with the swollen foot and the eczema seems to have finished but now Si Attica seems to jump into the vacant space, co-codamol has been administered. Tomorrow is the toy fair at Rayleigh, I've already got the spending tokens. I just hope that Si Attica and Arthur Itis are taking the day off.

Thanks Puppers. 👍 As the automatic doors equipped with GPP (Genuine People Personalities) said in the Hitch-Hikers Guide to the Galaxy; "Glad to be of Service" 😀 In Other News We had Junior Puppers and the Junior Junior Puppers x2 round for Boxing day and very good it was too. Of course the most played with toy of the day? A bit of old red string that was given to J2 Puppers/1 a few weeks ago as a pretend snake (he's 4 and a bit) although the old Brio got a workout too. He'll get round to the new toys when the excitement wears off I'm sure. As he is fascinated by the moon (as well as washing machines, trains and snakes) and it had got dark before they went home I thought I'd show him the moon in close-up through the telescope. He was well impressed with both the moon and Jupiter (and its moons) despite the image quality being poor due to looking through a double glazed window complete with reflections. Anyway, his enthusiasm was fired up and he demanded that we go out into the back garden to look at the stars. Who were we to argue? Mind you it was rather nippy! He enjoyed Jupiter and Mars as well (we'll leave the technical detail about them not being stars until another day) and he even spotted Pleiades. The Plough was partially hiding behind a tree and unfortunately Orion was playing hard-to-get so he'll have to wait until next time. I think it's all about planting seeds ..... I don't ultimately care what my grand-children get interested and passionate about (please not kickball!) just so long as they get interested and passionate about something! If it happens to coincide with my interests so much the better 😀 Today I've made the big Focus Knob and the Focus Lock screw and tidied up the spring anchor which I think just leaves the eyepiece holding screws to finish off and the painting of the important inner surfaces of the tube and mount matt black to do and I can declare it done. Have I said before? It's a lovely mover! Tomorrow we are being visited by one of my late school / early work days friends. I'm always amused by the fact that my best mates from my school days didn't go to my school. Is there a message there I wonder? Is there another message in one of my gifts from Mrs Puppers I wonder? From what I've read so far it appears to be Bang-On! Night All! Alan 19

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted December 27, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 27, 2022 Good evening everyone After I’d completed the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix and put the shopping away, I sat down and read for an hour or so, my current book is about 6 female journalists who reported about the wars in the mid 20th century, Spanish Civil War, Finnish Winter War and the incidents that lead up to WWII, extremely well written and very informative . After dinner I spent half an hour in the office on the computer, updating my railway inventory. So, in essence I’ve not done a lot really, but I’ll admit it’s really nice to just sit and relax every now and then.

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted December 28, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 28, 2022 Good moaning from the Charente. It's still dark here but all being well that will soon change. I got the shopping done yesterday morning then in the afternoon we went to a friend 's for coffee. She had baked a lovely fig tart so of course that had to be sampled. Her daughter was there as well, always a bonus, and a good natter was had. When we got home I checked the post and the new Midland Railway Society Journal had arrived. Also there was my family letter from my cousins. That meant 12 new letters to read and a lot of interesting things to read about. My eldest cousin who is 87, revealed that this letter has been doing the rounds since 1926. It was started when my grandmother died as a way that the 9 siblings could keep in touch. To still be doing the rounds nearly a century later is pretty good. The last sibling died in the 1990's and mow it's mainly my generation that keep it going, though two of the next generation have now joined in. Anyway there is wood to be barrowed down from the woodshed this morning then we are out for a meal at some friend's tonight. I might even solder some bits of brass together at some point. Visitors expected today.. a niece and a nephew who have a great interest in items which are in my loft room. I seem to have collected another cold over the festive season. PAH! I am making full use of various medicines in our medicine cupboard to sort it out. We are off to meet upwith youngest Herbert and fiance this afternoon as itbis her birthday. After that I am meeting up with an eating and drinking society for a couple of beers. Hopefully all will be well. Time to drink my tea and prepare for the family invasion. Stay safe! RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted December 28, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 28, 2022 The RAF Blue I was using was a little bluer and a little darker than the vehicle RAF blue, as it's a shed.. Which will be doing duty as the guards hut at a small oil depot. Meanwhile at the moment on BBC 1 TV is a piece on building Airfix models , mostly the 1/24 spitfire, but also including Al Murray with his model tanks.. Mooring Awl, 5.5 hours sleep, short awake, 2 hours sleep. Just left elbow complaining this morning. Shortly after SWMBO arrive home from weaving yesterday she found the stitch cutter, where I was sat and looked of course... Another piece on TV at a dump site.. people are already dumping their Christmas trees!!!! Ben the alarm clock Collie tried to get me up for work, it took some persuasion to for him to go back to bed.. An hour later I relented and we went on patrol. Ground wet, very cloudy and dark, not much wind yet, Ben disappeared into the depths of the garden reappearing from a totally different direction he must have crossed at the bottom out of my sight.. He seemed very happy about it.. So plans for today, Repair the stove, sort of, on the back is a plate which blocks the rear exit of the stove, because we use it's top exit.. it's only held on by high temperature gue. Every couple of years or so it falls off, so you have to clean it up and re-gue it. Sand rudder.. Find the sailmakers sewing kit, A minor top up of consumables from Tes and Coe... Mostly milk. But first, Time for muggacoffee number 2 19
