Dr Eldest Herbert was born inthe Clarendon Wing of the Leeds General infirmary.. supported a "Dr deBono"  who wasn't wearing multiple coloured hats as far as I remember it. (It was a relative apparently)

 

 

Herself is off to moreasons.. I need to drink my tea!

One of the docs here has a sizable collection of whimsical mottoes which she puts on her office door when she’s in house. I wholeheartedly agree with the following!

Morning, white raddips.  9c and dark so I can't see if its raining.  If not, it will be soon, as it is fore-guessed to do so.

 

No orders today, but feeling a bit flat so not sure what the entertainment will be, likely dusting and a walk if the precipitation isn't too heavy.  Poor night to blame, feeling very empty today.

 

We chose not to have kids but later adopted a crazy daughter who is everything you could ever want.  BA, MA, now a hospital social worker and mad as a hatter.  She is married to Gareth with a now 4 year old daughter, but lives in the Big City, there's no accounting for taste.  Charlotte/Lottie/Charlie (mostly the latter) is loved as much as if she were our own flesh and blood.

8.5 Working days left including today..

4.5 hours sleep and some intermittent rare dozing, I'm knackered..

Caused by last night I was attempting to go downstairs last night, when my right ankle gave way... Not side to side but fore and aft , So I now have a painful Achillees and a similar area that's painful on the front of the ankle.. That put a lot of strain on my already duff left knee so that's complaining as well...

 

Ben the happy Collie also didn't have a good night last night repeatedly wandering from bed to floor to safety cage and back.. However he was happy this morning, bouncing around the limited lit area of the garden. 

 

Last nights overnight run was a pile of XXXX, I've made changes to the correction file, but I'm not hopeful.

 

The fault with the outside lights was confirmed by various tests, they are now on the hunt for the failing light/s, They had been tested before installation and they worked OK then. You can see two steps up in the background noise level as the two zones separately switch on.

A noise spike was also found every hour at 48 minutes past the hour, that one they are searching for.. 

The noise has at it's lowest a 30 microVolt level which is still to high, it goes up to 70uV when one set of lights goes on and the other (the other side of the building) to just under 100uV. The spikes are higher than that..

 

The Second system we are still testing but I don't think we'll finish today, so that will have to be put back into service temporarily with the old correction file as might the first system...

 

Just waiting for an Automatic bit of the calibration to finish on system 2 before continuing with Ohms.

Ah I hear the whine of 10A 10Khz... it's all but finished..

Just pondery type jobs yesterday in the main, but then in the evening it was.....

 

PARTY TIME!! 🥳

 

Ok, well not quite - it was the Annual M.E. Group Bash down at the usual local (and rather good) Foodie Pub - very decent scoff, nice staff, nice place & atmosphere, sensible prices; three courses for the majority of us (three dipped out on the starter, one had coffee instead of a pud - what a waste...) and the total was £132.  Can't moan at that.

I had booked the table for eleven people, expecting that to be maximum number but knowing that a couple may well not be able to attend after all; there were a couple of unexpected no-shows on top, so I was a little embarrassed that the "Table for 11" was only filled with 6 after all, but after looking around it was apparent that there were still some tables available if required so felt a bit better about it.  The staff seemed pleased with their tip anyway (LDC to win in the 2-30 at Newmarket....🤣).

 

Today sees some more on the Great H/S/L R; a policy of softly softly appears to be in place at the moment, rather than a full out assault.  It'll get there eventually.

@TheQ's hunt for electrical noise reminds mebof an incident at Morley in the early 80's.  I was the radio op on our shift(also trleprinter, telephone snd front counter staff) every so often on an unprefictable basis a high pitched s reech would come over the UHF channel. Mnany times an hour.  We complained bittely yo the radio techs nd they investigsted.  Our main aeriel was on a water tower on a ridge between Morley and Leeds.  The interference  was eventually traced. It turned out that the aeriel was in a direct line between the Gas board's control centre down in Leeds and their big radio tower not far south of the Police Station by Junction 28 of the M62. Apparently  they had a microwave link between the two from which they polled all their remote sites around the region. The polling was done automatically on a semi random basis.  The screech was caused by this.  This took about 6 months to discover. Our aerial was moved to a slightly different  position on the water tower and our ears returned to what passed for normal.

Good morning all,

Misty start to the day here but there may be some brighter spells later.  A cool 4°C at the moment and a maximum 9°C forecast. 

Much excitement at GDB Towers as bin lorries and Sainsbury's are due but more importantly I have survived my 74th solar orbit.  Also due are a couple of parcels from Liverpool, presents from me to me, so that is something to look forward to, DPD permitting.  A day of mainly taking it easy will ensue (no change there then) but a bit more of a celebration is scheduled for tomorrow with some family members visiting.  I may take a glass or two of red and/or  amber liquids later.

Another dull, but dry start to the day here in the northwest corner of England. I shall shortly be heading off to the butchers shortly for the weekly meat rations and a pork pie for my dinner. Then it’s off to the Trafford Centre to pick up a click and collect package then a few more bits and pieces. This afternoon Charlie is due round for his weekly model making session, which is always great.

You probably saw the BBC(?) prog some years ago about how they selectively bred foxes in Russia and after a couple of generations the offspring of the tamer ones behaved just like dogs. And, the breeding also resulted in them looking less like foxes and more like dogs, that was the strangest bit for me.

I remember the program, it was the silver fox that had been trapped/hunted for their fur, they then started breeding them in captivity. The problem with that was they are a very aggressive animal, the presenter was warned under no circumstances to even put a finger into the cages if you wanted to keep all your fingers. They tried to breed out the aggressiveness but the offspring produced came out with tan and white fur instead of the coveted silver.

I would love to have had children but it was not to be. I've been in two relationships that were heading that way but both ended too soon due to outside factors beyond our control. I do treat my friends son as if he is my grandson. The lads grandparents were gone before he was born. He is now 14 but is SEN and has a mental age of about 10. He is well behaved and no problem to his dad despite our attempts to spoil him something rotten.

Multi-quote still not working.    I started to inspect the source code;  something to do with a  Firefox Bug and the Google Ads server.   Well sorry, I just can't be ar..... to try and solve it as it's not my Circus!

 

Being a fully paid-up member now although it doesn't seem to have rippled through to RMWeb yet I thought I'd take a look using Edge.    Well I got the infernal DigiTrains video big scale which I've never seen before on the PC (because I use Firefox ....?).    That really, really, really isn't a smart marketing strategy in my opinion and every time I see that blxxdy video makes me more and more determined to not make use of their services!

 

I'd forgotten, we have a lunch appointment today so the completion of the Crayford Focuser mounting plate will be delayed a bit.   Can't wait to bolt it on and have a proper look at it though😀.      As practical work is out of the question this morning perhaps I'll spend some time thinking about those bearing mounts.  Oh yes, got to finish off today's Wordle too 🤔

On the pregnancy subject, our No. 2 son and DiL tried for over ten years after getting married to have a child but to no avail despite various fertility treatments. During that time they had set up home in the UK, moved to Australia, gone through the trauma of DiL's mum dying suddenly, had issues with another medical problem in Australia (the medical authorities there refused to accept documentation from the UK and insisted on trying treatments that had already been tried here and discarded) then moved back to UK whereupon my son set up his own hydrogeology consultancy. Eventually they got more or less settled and began seriously to consider adoption when suddenly - bingo! DiL fell pregnant. I'm convinced that the cessation of a lot of the stresses in their lives was the key and we now have a delightful ten year old granddaughter.

 

Retirement - I was told by many people before I retired that instead of work, other calls on my time would fill the gap but I, of course, scoffed at the idea and started to plan all the things I could or would do. In the event, the predictions of those who warned me have proved correct and much of what I imagined I would achieve has evaporated. I often think that I must have imagined going to work as based on experience since retiring I can't possibly have done so and still achieved other things.

We are off to Canvey Island soon to collect a parcel with a stop on the way back for Aditi to,collect a prescription. Her asthma puffer seemed to have lost its puff prematurely so she had to request one out of schedule. 
It is “dress like an Egyptian” day for our 10 year old niece’s class at school. She has gone as Cleopatra. Her Mum sent us a photo but the younger niece photobombing was also most amusing.

In other news it must be December. The first half-decent chilly fog gave way to a half-decently bright morning. 
 

The first fur-trimmed red suit was noted at the House of Fun. Its wearer no doubt thought he would have one at my expense by asking me for the next train to North Pole. 
 

He wasn’t quite sure how to respond to my instant and off-the-cuff answer. “Platform 1 and change at Willesden Junction sir” follwed by “then if it’s North Pole Junction you’re after hop on a 228 bus ….. “.
