Seems they got panicky when clouds of smoke went billowing past their office window, which was directly upstairs. Got a team b*llockin' but nothing worse, fortunately. As for Creosote, still available I believe but in 25L drums to Farmers etc. Rumour has it that old engine oil mixed with white spirit is a DIY substitute, but without that lovely smell..... 9 1 2
simontaylor484
9Afternoon all Bathroom refit continues apace so have been missing for most of the day. Can i add Verdone weedkiller to the list. Oh and I don't think Brasso is as good as it used to be. Maybe it was because it was Brasso wedding o bought. Upvc cleaner doesn't seem to be as potent these days. I got some from a customer of ours in around 2003 it was brilliant shifted ingrained dirt. Some had leaked down the side of the bottle and it ate through it like putting poly cement on expanded polystyrene. 2 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted November 10, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 10, 2022 (edited) We removed everything from the summerhouse today. I found mouse city in one of the storage boxes for paint sheets and cushions. Many of which were dumped as they were not in a nice condition. The inside of the shed was washed down with diluted bleach . Everything that had been in the summerhouse was wiped down. After the trip to the tip (sorry, recycling centre) I was going to go to Wickes to get some expanding foam filler but remembered that I would have to pass a proper builders merchant so went there instead. The mouse hole is thoroughly blocked now with steel wool and expanding foam. Not a pretty job but I can tidy it later. I think the mice have been travelling between the summerhouse and the compost bin. I will clear that tomorrow. RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted November 10, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 10, 2022 Afternoon All Have been away for a few days - got back late last evening - 6.45 after an over 4 hour drive from Lancaster - A49 was closed, and diversion route had a 2m tailback due to a roundabout between 2 A roads, and "our" road, of course carrying about twice its normal traffic - but it was interesting that the Radio 2 traffic reports did not mention this closure at all. Other than that, greetings are on offer as I have skipped many pages, as I wasn't able to use the hotel wifi for more than 30 minutes a night, and one urgent email used up most of that on night 1, and reading the response and visiting the various websites took up the other - I was too knackered last night to even switch on the laptop. Popular Post chrisf
I am likely to be off line for at least part of tomorrow and probably longer. This afternoon I was all set to print the labels for my seasonal greetings cards and some other paperwork relatng to the festive season. My printer had other ideas and refused to co-operate. The trouble is probably something trivial and piffling but I won't know until the nice people in the repair shop have made me feel a fool at my expense for not being able to fix it myself. I will be waiting for the shop to open first thing in the morning and fear the worst. I shall have to entrust them with both laptop and printer for the duration. Later, all being well, I will be havng lunch with a mate. With any luck he will cheer me up but I'm not betting on it. Does anyone else hate technology? RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted November 10, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 10, 2022 After yesterday and today I hate Excel... Yesterday, excel managed to have two identically named files open something it's not supposed to do. This was I while I had another file open with similar data, it all got very confusing.. after closing excel down I was left with two files!!!! Today, I found someone had been moving files adding numbers to their folders and file names, without telling me the one who uses these files the most. Some have been moved to or created in strange places.. I've spent most of the calibration waiting time today Storting out the mess, and there's more to do. Because of that I had to merge some files, transfering graphs, at one point I'd transferred the graphs saved the file, then shut it down ... When I turned it back on the graph was missing, it did it again in front of a disbelieving witness ...

RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted November 10, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 10, 2022 Windoze 10 deleted the wireless driver for my printer last month - just like that, because it felt like it. Took about an hour to sort out, a very annoyed ranty hour. Kitchen's finished, and mates rates turned out to be less than I had allowed for - bonus. Cracking job, he's a proper craftsman, very happy. Ozexpatriate
Recent conversation/observation/squabbles on police vehicles puts me in mind of old the Top Gear. In this country they were routinely similar, usually large sedans from the likes of Ford, Dodge or Chevrolet. (The Bluesmobile is a good example, though I cannot comment on whether their cigarette lighters function.) They interested me little and I preferred to avoid any interactions with them. One of the weirder outcomes of the law of unintended consequences resulted from what became known as "1033" - from Section 1033 of the National Defense Authorization Act of Fiscal Year 1997; (which had a precedent from 1990) where the "Defense Logistics Agency Disposition Services, Law Enforcement Support Office" (LESO) coordinated the transfer of excess military equipment to non-military law enforcement agencies. It resulted in police forces owning and operating 'tactical' vehicles that no police agency in a democracy should have any business operating under 'normal' circumstances, leading to silly behavior like this Portland-area episode a few years ago. RMweb Premium Popular Post The White Rabbit Posted November 10, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 10, 2022 Good evening. Or noswaith dda. Various tasks done today. In between these, some more memories of walking a bit and photographing a bit in mid-Wales have been rekindled. I'll stick with the Fathew and Dysinni valleys for another post, as the photos so far have been well received. Going back to the Dysinni 'Bird Rock' walk, I found another frame of the valley between the main Dysinni/Fathew valley the TR runs down and the lower Dysinni valley parallel to it further north. Abergynolwyn village is somewhere below the white longhouse in the centre of the picture, with the wooded hill flank to the right being the hill (Foel Fawr) between Nant Gwernol and Abergynolwyn TR stations. We're looking more or less towards Machynlleth, maybe six or seven miles away, though several million (if not billion?) tons of rock obscure the view. At Bird Rock/Craig yr Aderyn, the climb up from the valley floor road to the plateau on the top of the massive gets the blood flowing. Bird Rock and Gamallt (the latter close to Abergynolwyn) are two main peaks and the land slopes down to the west. A small valley runs across the centre and this has a few farms and a single tracked access road. Below, a view of this valley, with Bird Rock left, Cadair Idris in the distance centre and Gamallt to the right. One of the houses in the centre of the frame was for sale a few years ago and I was very tempted - but it wouldn't have worked out with employment and I wasn't able to afford to give that up or buy as a second property. A little further on, the valley turns back towards the Dysinni and the road crosses a small rise and then descends another hill. On this day, looking down the lower Dysinni valley, we had (distant) sea views of the coast somewhere between Tywyn and Llwyngwril. [Below], the road descends past a small group of houses/farms at Ty Mawr and into a hanging valley leading into the Fathew valley. The TR is visible between the line of trees from the lower centre to lower right, though you would need a very expensive and heavy telephoto lens to see the trains nearly a mile away. Dolgoch station is out of sight but would be about lower centre left - you can see the valley with the falls in leading away from the centre to centre left. Having walked up to the top of the hill, we now walked all the way down again! Having reached the B road at the bottom, we went up to Dolgoch station and took some frames there. One non-railway frame was of an unofficial bus-stop shelter at the end of one of the farm drives. Perhaps not as scenic as the mountains but I thought it was a nice piece of work and somehow summed up that part of the world. 20

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted November 10, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 10, 2022 Good evening everyone For most of the day I’ve kept thinking that today was Friday! Anyway, the shopping is now done and this leaves tomorrow free so we can both go to the RHS Bridgewater and take a walk through the woodlands. Given its location so close to the M60 it’s a very peaceful and quiet walk and we both enjoy it. After dinner, I headed downstairs to the office and did a bit more work on the turntable circuit board diagrams. I redrew the circuit board for the variable speed controller for the turntable drive motor. I then went through all my drawings and deleted all duplicate drawings, of which there were quite a few. I then set up 2 separate files, one for my original set of drawings, with 4 pole relay boards and the other for the modified drawings, with 2 pole relays. Each file has a full set of drawings in them. This evening after tea, we sat down and watched this afternoon’s episode of ‘The Repair Shop’ and then we finally got round to watching the first 2 episodes of the current BBC drama about the origins of the SAS. Surprisingly Sheila enjoyed it. 15
