I can get blood out of anyone, any place, any time (only twice in countless samplings was I defeated - one was a 3 week old infant [very fragile and fine veins - had to get a peadiatric colleague to do that one] and a fat lady - who was so fat that her upper arm was bigger around than Arnold S's upper thigh [had to send her to ER for a cut-down]). Popular Post Erichill16
Morning All, Had long weekend away in North Yorkshire and arrived home Monday. Been doing various jobs since mainly outside. Still got Sydney as his family are off for a half term break. Sydney needs his walk but it’s forecast heavy rain all day and neither SWMBO or myself are in good physical condition after our efforts yesterday. Mojo is sadly lacking and there are plenty of work and domestic job that need attention, however a couple of hours walking in the rain seems a more pleasurable option. I suppose I’d better get up and get things rolling. Make the most of your day, Robert

Since I'm taking multiple blood readings on a typical day, I rotate across all of my fingers (e.g. right side of right index a.m., right side of next finger p.m. and so on across 4 days, then repeat on left sides. Never heard of not taking from index fingers. And sometimes it's like getting blood from a stone, other times it flows easily. Sometimes it hurts, mostly it doesn't. RMweb Gold Popular Post BoD Posted October 20, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 20, 2022 Good morning all. It is raining here too, and forecast to last all day. There is a met office warning out for ‘thunderstorms nearby’. A pity that they are only nearby - I love a good thunderstorm. Yesterday I had my covid booster. Today I woke up, stood up and nearly fell over. My balance seems to have gone all to pot. I am having to hold things to move about and am only really comfortable keeping my head perfectly still otherwise everything seems to spin. It looks like a day lying down or sitting reading may be in store. Not an unpleasant thought after a few hectic days. I have read the leaflet that was given to me with the covid booster and this is not listed as a side effect, not even an extremely rare one. I hope I have just picked up some sort of ear infection. I will give it 24 hrs and see what happens. Have a good day peoples. 1 1
Popular Post andyram
Morning all. I hope you are well. It's been quite a while since I posted on these, or any other RMWeb pages. In response to @Barry O's comments from the September, there is nothing from this site that is stopping me posting - sometimes life just gets in the way. Over the last few weeks life has been very busy. Online shop sales have gone through the roof and I have been busy keeping on top of sending out orders etc. Then there has been a busy period with the college. My boss was away for two weeks and I was the one who was entrusted with the role of covering for her. Work has therefore dominated my time and I have simply not found a moment to log into RMWeb. I had been most looking forward to this week. My wife and daughter are away in Florida for a fortnight with the in-laws. I had booked time off to allow me to have some rest and quiet time whilst caring for the animals. I had planned trips to Whitby and the NYMR, a working stint on the GCR, and a few nights in the pub with my best mate. There was also the possibility of a chance of catching with another close friend who has had some tough times recently. Now, you know that phrase....the best laid plans...... Clearly fate, the universe, the well known law of s*d, or other powers that be decided that this was a good time to hit me with Covid! The result - several days in bed including having to pull out of the Wirksworth Show last weekend. Although I am now negative, I still lacking in energy and so I had to cancel yesterday's working stint on the GC. There is also no opportunity to visit Whitby or the NYMR before the girls return towards the end of next week. In addition, one of the cats has developed a stomach upset so much of my time is spent cleaning up after her. It is noting serious, just a case of having pinched the wrong food from one of the others. However, I have to admit I am feeling rather fed up with things right now. Best wishes Andy 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted October 20, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 20, 2022 Morning all, It has just started raining again. I can still see Kent but east and west are murky. I didn’t hear any thunder last night, probably because I was asleep. Our weather forecast suggests any thunderstorms will be slightly west of us. I was barely awake this morning when Aditi asked me to explain amps, volts and their relationship with kWh. This is due to her recent interest in our electricity bills. She thinks she must have missed that topic at school. Her family moved a lot so she went to quite a few schools in the first year of her secondary education. She was so good at English and foreign languages she was put straight into the second year of the final school she attended. Hence a number of gaps in her education. Biology was the only science she took at O level. In fact it was the only science any pupil in that school took. Her sister did physics and chemistry too but she had to go to another nearby school for those lessons. Tony 14 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted October 20, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 20, 2022 Thinking about the comments about books and reading. When I was 3 or 4 I had a spell in hospital on oxygen as I had breathing problems and I got bored. So the "older" boys in the ward, they must have been all of 8 or so, decided to teach me to tell the time and read. By the time I got home I knew my letters and could indeed tell the time. I became a voracious reader and still read several books a week, both novels and non fiction. To save carrying books around I keep one downstairs and one by my bed. I wouldn't like to count the books in my house! At the moment I'm not going to the library but I used to, but I often borrow books from various sources and read them on my Kindle. I remember when I was young getting frustrated at not being able to use the adult part of the library so I simply read the books Mum and Dad took out. Now for yesterday. It was raining first thing so I decided not to go far and contented myself with a walk from home to the beach and back, with a walk along the promenade. There were very few people about and it was quite refreshing and eventually my stiffness wore off and the aches went away. On the way back I drew out some cash using a cash machine- the first time since April. Then there were a few odd jobs to do before coffee. The post came with a couple of magazines and a new credit card which had to be activated - for once it only took a minute or so to do online. I tried to remove some prefixes to captions in a large batch of images which used to be on a long defunct website. The computer didn't like the constant select and delete actions so I decided not to bother. After lunch (salmon again) I did a bit of work on a model and did some garden tidying as it was sunny then. There were just enough of the later flowering chrysanthemums to fill a vase. There should be a lot more to come. After tea I spent a little while looking at the paperweights which came from Mum's and trying to work out which are which. Fortunately there is a catalogue and a lot them have small numbers on stickers on their base so it's not too difficult. I also looked up what they are worth now - lets just say that allowing for inflation they have not gone up in value. Then I settled down with my book and watched a bit of TV. Popular Post woodenhead
Done a spot of sight seeing this week, Tuesday was spent on the South Stack at Holyhead, lots of rocky paths and climbs and amazing views. Yesterday, drove along and walked on the Leek and Manifold Railway around Wetton with a climb up to Thor's Cave where it was quite windy, should have anticipated that as it was very windy on the Cat and Fiddle. The bizarre sight of a stockcar racing site in what I thought was the middle of the countryside after a hairum scareum drive along a steep sided single track road caught be my surprise. Later discovered the satnav had taken me within three miles of Buxton and I was almost upon Hindlow. It's not often though that you get to drive your car through an old railway tunnel, though it also being single track added a level of anxiety. I didn't actually realise I was driving on a trackbed until I got out of the car and noted that the road was very flat and had another road running alongside in places that had more typical humped bridges and perhaps there was a reason for this. This morning though I've seen this article, not much being made of it in the news, but I do find it very odd that two undersea cables linked to the Shetlands have been damaged in recent days putting them out of use. I do hope it is just fishing vessels and not another Nordstream 'accident' https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-scotland-north-east-orkney-shetland-63326102 18 3

RMweb Premium Popular Post The White Rabbit Posted October 20, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 20, 2022 Afternoon all, The weather is attempting to refill the reservoirs at the moment. So no expeditions outside are planned. Instead I have been going through some paperwork (ugh) and trying to get that into a bad state rather than an appalling one. The bank has refused to update my contact details - because I haven't registered for online or telephone banking, the web-site won't give me any options. I rang the contact number (hidden very well) and spoke to a deaf and daft c*ntpuffin who insisted I have to visit 'my local branch'. Which is about to be closed and I'm supposed to be isolating anyway... Not the first problem I've had, so a change is called for. Other files saw some progress. I'm now going through some of the electronic files and one thing which I thought may be of use/help to ERs (especially @DaveF and @Dave Hunt) is a site with (unofficial) news and timing re probate: https://www.theprobatedepartment.co.uk/probate-delays/ - I found it useful. We did tell them our local branch had been closed by then for over a year. The most ridiculous request was for a pay slip from my (it is a joint account) last employer. That would have been May 2000. They were quite suspicious about the Teachers Pension credit each month too. We did decline to give them details about the other joint account (where my pension goes) as we said it is a UK regulated bank and none of their business. Threatening to freeze payments or accept credits is only supposed to happen if they suspect dubious activities like money laundering. Our pensions and household direct debits must make our account really boring. The bank my pension goes into do check up on their info but it is really simple. 4
