RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted October 17, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 17, 2022 Good evening everyone The plumbers merchant had all that I wanted and I came away £28 lighter but with a bag full of goodies and 2 lengths of 40mm pipe. Although, 2 black right angle bends, as they only had 1 white one. So I used the 2 black ones inside, behind the washing machine and dishwasher, as these wouldn’t be seen and fitted the white one outside to match the rest of the pipework. . On the way there, I decide to increase the size of pipework from 32mm to 40mm, in the hope that it would increase in diameter will help with the flow of waste water. I also went for solvent type fittings instead of the push fit type. I managed to complete all the work by dinner time, which resulted in a very happy Sheila! All I’ve got to do is put some new mortar in the hole that the pipe work passes through, that’s my number 1 job tomorrow morning. After dinner the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix was completed and the cupboards are once again full. Once that lot were packed away, I had a muggertea followed by a short session of eyelid inspection. 16 4

Mid 20's apparently. Yesterday was a good day. The mountain of ironing got done, wine supplies werectopped up, Diesel was purchased and I got some more muddling done. I also visited the widowvof a friend who died recently. I wasn't looking forward to the visit but it wentvwell with much talk about Mike and some laughter. Especially when she told me her two immediste problems. The first was that she didn't know the computer password the second would make a good comedy sketch. The Undertakers had buried Mike without emptying his pockets. As a result Kathy can see where the car keys are frim her lounge window, but can't get at them. RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted October 18, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 18, 2022 Morning peoples, from a chilly rock at a mere 7c which is also quite still indeed, especially after two days of gales (UK was cut off yesterday). I can now see light through the stand of sycamores at the end of the garden as a result of the gales, so that's about half leaf-fall stage. The leaves mostly fall into the derelict orchard and farmhouse over the back, if we don't get an easterly then all is good. If there is an easterly before the leaves get wet and or/stick a bit, they all come back into our garden. This is a Pah! moment. Hope to get out for a ride with a few buddies today. 18 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted October 18, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 18, 2022 Mooring Awl, 5.5 hours sleep, long awake, two lots of short sleep, total about 7 hours, which was good, but I still feel knackered. Left Knee and right thigh, much better than yesterday. Ben the alarm clock Collie did his duty and then went back to bed until it was time to patrol. Very heavy dew out there, no wind, clear very star lit welkin. Very quiet, as though there was a heavy fog, but except for the odd mist over the rivers there was none.. Finished reading a book about the Murrays / Hamiltons /Dukes of Argyll. Around the period of the Jacobite rebellions, fathers and sons were often on opposing sides... Didn't end well for many of them.. Went to read Caxtons History of Britain, First published 1480, though this is of course, a reprint complete with modernised English and Notes about where the information was sourced etc.. I got part way through the modern intro and then my rechargable reading light went dark, so sleep started 1/2 hour early. At the sailing club on Sunday, I met a club member who has had to stop sailing due to two strokes and going very deaf.. Conversation was difficult. One interesting point about him, is his surname is the same as the village on my future project. In the 800 to 1000 years since surnames were adopted, his family have moved 1 mile from the village.. I've been given another test equipment box, I'm going to move my sailing equipment spares into that box, as it's larger, putting future project, parts being acquired for, into the smaller box to keep it together. I'm continuing on with this weeks major system, going well so far.. Time to measure -1.0 A 19

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted October 18, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 18, 2022 (edited) Good morning all, Some blue sky appearing and a dry day with sunny spells forecast. Currently 7°C and it may reach 17°C. Took a while to get moving this morning with aching undercarriage after yesterday's exertions. I don't think I'll be walking very far today. Jabs here were very organised and done in the third week of September. We received texts from GP surgery (8 minute walk away) inviting us to a walk in clinic for flu jabs which was very efficiently organised and then texts from NHS for Covid booster, either walk in or make appointment at a local centre. (1 mile away) We chose the latter and all dealt with bang on time. No ill effects for me but could feel the injection sites for a couple of days. The Boss felt a bit rough for a couple of days and her arms ached for a couple of weeks. Today I'm declaring war on my energy supplier as they haven't sorted out my query from a week ago. (after promising to resolve it within 3 days) I've just had another bill and they still haven't charged me for gas consumption for the past several months although I send them monthly readings. Now £680 in credit plus the £66 they've just refunded me. Idiots. Time for some breakfast. Have a good one, Bob. RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted October 18, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 18, 2022 Monday was another quiet day. After doing the house jobs I went to the beach and had a good walk on the sand. It is fairly soon after high tide, there were some waves, though not very big and it was very peaceful and relaxing. There weren't any birds about, looking around I finally saw a large flock of mixed gulls standing on the roof of one of the harbour warehouses. Perhaps it was too windy for them to want to stand on the sand or ride the waves - or even fly. The rest of the day passed quickly, sorting out more things in the garage and tidying up seed trays and plant pots, deciding which are good enough to use for another year - fortunately most of them are OK, some just need a wash. The bigger flowered late spray chrysanthemums are just beginning to flower, they will be ready for picking in a few days, I think there may be one more picking of the earlier ones. Since I had my health check three weeks ago I have lost about 4.5lb, I am now a bit under my normal weight. I look slightly different - if I lose weight I look older as my face goes thin and my neck looks scraggy. I've also found minor health issues become more toublesome. So I have decided I need to go back to eating about as usual, but not biscuits and cakes! I won't comment on the news! This morning I have rung the roofing people who will re do the gutter repair this week. David
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted October 18, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 18, 2022 (edited) Good morning everyone Another bright and sunny start to the day here in England’s northwest corner, but at 5C it’s a little cooler than a few months ago. Thankfully the wind has gone and the trees are n longer waving their branches about. The plan for today is to get the mortar fuel around the new waste pipe and then give the garden a bit of a tidy up, then it’ll be back to planting bulbs. Back later. Sunny with blue sky but no wind today. Outdoors 10.4°C. Indoors a nice 18.5°C. Tempting to go out to the garden, later, to have a look at a few possible plants I could put in my plant basket. Plenty of small rocks for decoration to choose from as we sit on top of boulder clay, and a bag of slate chippings for the pathways to delve into. <<I don't think a tiny amount will be missed!> Mugadecaf then a wander out front, first. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted October 18, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 18, 2022 Well I did go for a short walk but just to the post office as The Boss wanted to return a book from Amazon as it was damaged. Only 1400 steps and that was enough as The Hip has now come out in sympathy with The Knee. I haven't a clue how I managed to do all that walking yesterday. I then went on the warpath to Ovo Energy. First person I spoke to was a young lady who just kept saying we're behind with queries and I can't help you so I demanded to speak to someone more senior. Got put through to a "resolution advisor" (at least I think that's what he was called) who was very apologetic and said I should never have been told I'd get an answer in 3 days. Apparently due to the multitude of problems they've got due to the takeover of SSE some queries are taking up to 45 days to resolve! However he will "escalate things to move me to top priority." In the meantime as a gesture of goodwill he's added an extra £30 credit to my account. I'll just have to keep an eye on things and make sure I don't spend any refunds they give me.. After that I had to go outside to dispose of a couple of presents left by the bl##dy foxes. Popular Post simontaylor484
The photos of the machine shop on HMS Belfast remind me of the machine shop in my Grandads foundry. Thanks for sharing @grandadbob. Garage door man just rung he is an hour away he got held up on his first job. JYSK was visited this morning for a duvet for the eldest. After avoiding an asthma attack on top of a chest infection (due to feather allergy) i found one at a reasonable price , went to the till no one around waited 5 minutes still no one. Ended up googling their phone number and ringing them. The woman behind me in the queue was laughing when an assistant finally answered the phone i asked them to turn round because there was a q at the till. I would have left it but the prices they are charging for duvets now you would think they were selling you a bed with it. 2 1 1 6
simontaylor484
Garage door man arrived removal of old door ongoing. When they have finished I will have to hardwire the wiring in. The motor terminates to a 3 pin plug, I have supplied an extension lead as a temporary fix. I have plenty of suitable twin and earth cable I just need a unswitched socket and run the cable back to a junction box that supplies an existing socket. That's a job for the weekend (or next week as its half term already) 15 1 1

Polly Rather than putting everything straight into the plant basket, I thought it better to try a few plants in some small pots, first. The clear plastic containers originally held morello cherries or mixed peel - very versatile! The yellow flowering sedum grows along a raised bed's stone wall. Lovely to see it still in flower. The Ivy-leaved toadflax (far right) was growing on a high stone wall in small pockets until I put some in the ground when it took off and covered everything! I have no idea as to what the smallest leaved thing is. Growing through slate chippings on the garden path. It remains to be seen which, if any, survive indoors. 14 1

Bear here..... A busy - and expensive morning. The Bearmobile went for it's 60,000 mile service today (but has only done 33,000 miles) and covered only 1300 miles since the service this time last year; as a consequence it didn't get the uber-extensive (= f.expensive) "proper service" but a basic one instead (the Dealer suggested that - and Bear didn't argue....), plus a brake fluid change and MOT. Bye bye 1.5 Deltics 😭 I felt compelled to soften the blow by scoffin' a "Big Breakfast" at a nearby Cafe whilst work was carried out; there was a guy outside with a rather nice BMW R100 that I spoke to for a few minutes whilst there. After that it was a scout round the (R/C) Model Shop over the road - no choo choos, but some nice stuff all the same - though current model shops are a poor substitute for those of a Bear's youth, back when you actually had to build a plane (foam wings were considered hi-tech back then) rather than put a battery in it and go. That's a mini-Rant. I did spend on some 6" Abra-file blades they had (in fact I cleared their stocks out) - they disappeared years ago despite being ultra useful, so to actually find some was a real result. On a positive note it does mean that MG enrols the Bearmobile for another year's freebie AA breakdown/recovery/homestart cover (which would cost Bear £189 if I went direct to AA) so it ain't so bad after all. But the best bit? A new friend (plus racksack) comes to stay at Bear Towers as a freebie with every service: Sadly he's currently un-named though - and he's very sad as a result 😢 So a name is needed...... In other news..... On the way home Bear stopped at the local Orange Shed for a big lump of 70mm by 18mm PAR Timber - and guess what? The very first bit I picked up was dead straight, no warps, twists or splits, few knots and reasonably finished. Now when's the last time that ever happened? I'll give it 24 hours and it'll be looking like a ship's propeller.... And finally..... The custom Display Case that Bear ordered several weeks ago was delivered this morning - I've yet to unpack it. Oh yes, remember that supplier of replacement bits to fit the new Atten Soldering Iron I mentioned yesterday? Well I placed an order at 13:20 yesterday and they were delivered sometime this morning (for zero delivery charge cos' I spent just over £25 as I added some other stuff too). The bits? Well if they're fake then I'm a Hippo.... Oh yes, I'll just add a Rant..... A Book of eight 2nd Class Stamps were the best part of five and a half notes - Bear can remember when they were 5.5p (that'll be 1975). Jeez. 13 2
Ian Abel
Chewsday. Yesterday evening dinner a great success, accolades from all, so must've been worth it. Then some enjoyable conversation and wine "tasting". Today the ladies' book club is here at 2pm, so I may find a way to make myself scarce, so as to avoid being roped in for some chores or other to help out! Weather decidedly nippy with a -5C start, sunny and still -2 at11am. May just reach 3-4 if we're lucky later, before heading below zero again overnight. Onward. 4
