Good morning everyone 

 

I was up a little later than usual, having nodded off just after the radio came on, some alarm eh? The plan was to go outside and plant some more bulbs, but it’s just started raining, so that’s not going to happen now. However, my first task is to drag out the washing machine and try and find where the occasional small puddles are coming from. We’ve only had this machine a few weeks and the water only appears spasmodically. so I don’t think it’s a fault with it. Last time this occurred, the outflow pipework, which it shares with the dishwasher was clogged up, I’m hoping it’s that again, as it’s an easy fix.

As you get older you should take care of your eyes. With my dodgy legs its essential that I can keep on driving as otherwise I would be virtually housebound and I enjoy reading a lot. If you require new distance glasses go for reactor lights as they reduce the risk of cataracts (of which one of the causes is bright sunlight).

 

I've ended up in hospital with kidney stones 3 times.  It hurts!!  Also been told that by a couple of nurses who've had kids and stones and they've said the same. 

 

Having been in hospital for 2 weeks (when I was 15) after a retinal haemorrhage caused by a shuttlecock hit from 3 feet away I can assure you that I try to take very good care of my eyes.  Normally have an eye test every year but kept putting it off for various reasons  although I did have a diabetic retinopathy test earlier this year.  I have got early stage cataracts as well but am pleased to report that it's no worse than when I was last seen.   However my close up vision has deteriorated a bit so now need some new reading glasses.   It seems that my distance vision is very slightly better than last time but we've put that down to the fact that I had to wear a mask then and things kept steaming up!  Very happy with the outcome of the visit.

Yesterday started as a normal Tuesday with an early grocery delivery from Asda including the new Ann Cleeves book in her Vera series - The Rising Tide.  She is one of the very few authors whose books I am happy to buy in hardback.

 

Then I went to the flat yet again to check it and had a chat with the man under Betty's flat, he is prepared to contribute to the gutter repair which is good.  After that it was another trip to the beach with a walk to the short inner harbour pier and back on a lovely morning, for once I was wearing the right jacket so I was neither hot nor cold!  The sea was very calm again.

 

I've already mentioned the new chair, suffice to say I have tried it out this morning and it is comfortable.

 

Later I did some more model making and watched an old film and read.

In other news......

@Kelly A post on the "Wright Writes" board mentions that the Lift at the GETS exhibition this year was u/s, so no access to the upper level other than via stairs unfortunately;  if the lift was u/s then the Organisers should've posted a sign at the entrance accordingly - though that isn't a great help if you've travelled any distance to get to the show.

I got both jabs yesterday, no problems apart from slight bruising that's only felt under pressure. 

Previously  I had accompanied Mrs mole as navigator in her current courtesy car (Skoda SUV) to the accident repair centre to retrieve some stuff from her Motability car. It is awaiting repairs after a minor RTC a couple of weeks ago.  She had a slight coming together with a moped/scooter that got too close to the side of the car at the entrance to a roundabout near Monmouth, resulting in a burst tyre and some bodywork damage.  Fortunately no harm to the rider, a learner aged 17.  Mrs mole was a bit shaken though.

Bin Day and the general waste truck was later than usual.  I need to fetch said bin and then have lunch.

A favourite bar of Andrew C, the Rake (in Borough Market) is doing a bring a bottle after noon  in commemoration of Andrew and another regular this Sunday from 1pm. From being with Andrew at such previous do's. You don't have to take a bottle.

 

His wife Liz will be there along with other friends of Andrews. Unfortunately we can't be there as we are at the Uckfield show with Blackmoor.

 

If you are in the area then Liz will be happy to see you. Just listen for her Canadian accent if you haven't met her before.

You've still go around 35 working days of my calibration posts, my rough estimate is last day on site is middle of December depending on how much leave I have left.

HUMP day, sort of, day two of only four this week.

 

Quiet on the Minnesotan front yesterday, precious little to report at all. Worked, ate, exercised, that's it.

Finished a TV series we were watching, "Nine Perfect Strangers", very odd/weird even almost disturbing, but the end was less dramatic than the lead-up implied <phew>!!

 

Today, more of the same <yawn>

 

8C and sunny first thing, 18C the forecast high.

Supposedly a good chance of rain today, but the Mk1 "window" weather system suggests otherwise. 🤪 I think seaweed twirlers rely too heavily on non-visual aids.

Mine was 120/75 pulse 60 this morning, lower than it has been (by a little) for quite a while; I take mine daily.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Just had a shower of rain and it bought Arthur Itis out to dance, fortunately the Nurofen is doing its stuff. The printer isn't working, its out of cyan so its shut down. I've ordered a new cartridge, thats another £44 spent. The original cartridge came with the printer when I bought it twelve years ago. Fortunately Lexmark are apparently quite happy with people buying generic cartridges unlike some manufacturers.

Evening all

 

Easy day had today, apart from a bit pottering and a bit reading, the only thing we did was our weekly shop.  For the first time I really noticed how prices have gone up.  Perhaps it has just been creeping up on me but today ‘how much’ was heard several times.

 

An easy day because from tomorrow things get busy.  

Tomorrow an extra shift running trains at an NT property (might need an FEB to fortify me for the day, will decide in the morning).  

Friday, a meet up for coffee with a couple of ex work colleagues.

Saturday, Hartlepool model railway exhibition.  

Sunday,  usual shift at NT.  

Monday and Tuesday, looking after grandson when daughter and S-I-L at work (best two days of week - even with nappy changing).  

 

See what I mean @TheQ  Retirement is very hard.
