Whenever we go anywhere the wildlife seems to be hiding. Aditi has still not seen a moose. However I expect Singapore isn’t the best place for moose spotting . My nephew is in California and has been to Yosemite for a few days and managed to see some chipmunks and squirrels. He has also seen some big trees. Don’t get me wrong, I love to see the wildlife, but not snakes! Went to Florida a long time ago and was impressed by the wildlife while others were impressed by Disney Land etc. I did however really, really enjoy two days at Cape Cabaveral. Better get a move on!
Popular Post Kelly
Morning. Hope all are well? If not, best wishes as appropriate as usual. The ankle is aching a lot this past couple of days, probably because of GETS Sunday. The show was good, but I was not too impressed being unable to access the two balconies with no lifts or any indication of a lift if I didn't see one. I'm hopeful I'll be more mobile next year and be able to manage the stairs, but this year it was a definite no, so I missed some of the layouts I'd wanted to see sadly. Accessibility is important and this will be a big factor over whether I return to the venue I think next year. Anyway, that aside. Today finally batteries arrived for my mobilty scooter. They were only ordered on the 16th September! DPD Local managed to lose them in Hinckley, around 5 miles from here. It took me a week or so to get in touch with CareCo about the whereabouts of said batteries mind, due to illness, they did what they could I guess and sent out a replacement package. It would have been helpful to have had the batteries ahead of Scaleforum and GETS, but ho hum! next job is to drag the scooter out of my old car (which might be interesting as the battery has gone totally flat and the central locking not working means the boot won't open!) and test them after a full charge. Hopefully they work and I'll have the scooter ready for Warley, which will make a big difference. Nothing much else to report. Poppy is currently watch Richard in the kitchen, I can't think why, might have something to do with sausages and bacon?? 4

Popular Post iL Dottore
Oh Bu99er! I have just tested positive for COVID-19, which means I will have to isolate myself for a few days. Fortunately, the symptoms are abating and I reckon with judicious use of antipyretics and antitussives I should recover quickly and without any sequelae. Still, it’s not pleasant, the worst things being the intermittent dry cough and the fatigue. Nothing unmanageable, but tedious.

Strepsils and a box of tissues? That's what I've had to hand. It's clearly doing the rounds of those who had previously escaped. 35 minutes ago, iL Dottore said: Still, it’s not pleasant, the worst things being the intermittent dry cough and the fatigue. Nothing unmanageable, but tedious. Yes, it's the cough that lingers. Now the really odd thing about my current bout of covid is that the symptoms and progression are pretty much the same as I had in February 2020, before there were many known UK cases. Indeed the lingering cough - two to three weeks - has been a feature of my annual nasty cold for the last decade or more. One theory is that I have been susceptible to earlier variants than covid-19. The teenage son of a friend was really ill in January 2020, with symptoms that were subsequently realised to be those of the early covid variant - strongly, if anecdotally, suggesting that covid-19 was circulating in the UK several weeks or even months before the first officially-recognised cases. 6 4

The strap is to shape it to clear the ladder. Works nicely. Looks bodgey but I can’t see it. Tony 12 1 7

The procedure went roughly like, dismantle fob to get emergency key. Remove plastic trim from one door handle to find secret lock. Enter car! Release bonnet. Remove battery cover. Get nice man from car park office to attach portable power unit (at home another car and jump leads would be the equivalent) Before trying the engine, I pressed the hatchback release so we could get luggage out of the rain. Then the engine was started. I told Aditi we were not going to stop the engine until we got home, from Southampton We didn’t. I sat in the car with the engine running when she needed a toilet break at the services. The battery was so bad it wouldn’t restart the car after the trip back from Southampton. 1

You have to use needles to insert the allergen deep enough under the skin in order to elicit an immune response (whether normal or abnormal). And I thought White Rabbits were made of sterner stuff…. But if you want to talk about real sad1sm let’s talk about Physiotherapists. The words “therapeutic massage“ conjure up images of beautiful young ladies gently and soothingly massaging your aching body. Nothing could be farther from the truth. In reality, “therapeutic massage“ means manipulating joints and muscles into directions they don’t want to go and, just for a bit of light relief, using wooden instruments called “mushrooms“ (in German) to break up knots in the muscle. You don’t know what pain is until you have had a physiotherapist place her entire weight onto a trigger point or muscle knot via a half-centimetre square rounded wooden point. And it gets better…… Some physiotherapy manipulations of the shoulder are so painful that the patient has to be either heavily sedated or anaesthetised before the physiotherapist starts. Edited October 11, 2022 by iL Dottore I don’t bl00dy believe it. The innocent word sad1sm got censored. C*ntpuffins 7 7 4

I quite like snakes, they are fascinating creatures. When I was studying herpetology as a university elective, I much preferred to handle snakes (non-poisonous ones, obviously. Poisonous snakes are handled with great respect and very carefully by experienced people) than handling frogs and toads. Lizards are also quite pleasant to handle, although the big ones can give you a nasty bite with the associated risk of a very nasty infection due to the bacteria in the lizard’s mouth. Interesting Frog Factoid: South American Tree Frogs secrete either a hallucinogen or a toxin according to species, but a South American Treefrog, whether hallucinogenic or toxic, raised in captivity in Britain will not even give you a headache – no matter how long you suck on it. The reason being it is what the tree frogs eat in the wild that is metabolised into either a hallucinogen or a toxin. ”Frog Sucking” now that’s something for the jaded, louche nouveau riche…. Arm is sore but other than that no ill effects so far. Booked a survey for a new garage door for tomorrow. Bathroom fitters rang they could come on Thursday but that would clash with the school holidays. So they coming in around 3 weeks. Must get the garage floor sealed before it gets to cold to use the sealant. 20
RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted October 11, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 11, 2022 Afternoon All Not all posts read or rated and greetings are on offer to all Ers whether celebrating, ailing, or suffering from Covid - 30747 had to visit the Dr and when she described our symptoms a few weeks ago, they said "almost certainly Covid" - we tested several times, and they never came up positive - how odd is that - or is it? One has to wonder about the accuracy of the tests. Fodder run completed to the tune of over £100, and then a visit to Ludlow for mooch round the charity shops, and then home, and four lots of logs split and stacked in log store, and shed - then a nice shower, and a glass of Abrachan. Just discovered an odd coincidence that fellow RMWebber, 45157, also lives in the same county as 45156. Regards to All Stewart 19
Popular Post Ian Abel
Chewsday, first day of the work week for me given yesterday was a "holiday"! Busy yesterday and accomplished quiet a lot surprisingly! Printed and framed the ERII and CRIII cyphers to hang in the bar area. Completely sorted, stored and threw out the entire contents of the top of my office workspaces, I now actually have some place to work on projects again. Organized the sundry extra/surplus to requirements USB cables that appeared to be multiplying as I tried to corral them from the workspace. It sure would be nice if all USB charging cables where the same BLQQDY type! I mean what IDIOT decided that there should be so many variants. I've more than a dozen in different lengths and connectors. Also, BRIEFLY, addressed the basement area where I'm trying to get the layout back to some semblance of order/working status. I may be able to get the main terminus board AND the engine shed board up fairly easily and along one wall, the weekend we'll see how it goes, then lookout, TRAINS may run, or at least shunt. Beyond work, nothing demanding in store today. Weather slightly warmer again, 16C first thing, sunny and headed for a high of 26C before dropping sharply the next several days, with lows around 0C by Friday. Tally ho.
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted October 11, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 11, 2022 The last few days my computer chair has been causing problems. For some time it has been covered with a travel rug as the imitation leather had become badly worn, but today it got worse. When I sit on it it the seat slowly descends to its lowest level. If I take my weight off it and pull on the lever it rises again. After doing this about three times it stays up for about half an hour before sinking again. It must be about 14 years old and has seen a lot of use. Obviously it is worn out so after lunch I ordered a new one from Argos, it should come this evening. The old one is now in pieces ready to go to the tip in due course. David

When I worked in an educational computer centre for a London Borough, after lots of comments the centre manager decided to replace all the admin staffs chairs. Those of us on teaching contracts asked,if we could have new chairs too and as ours were usually the ones deemed too bad for other staff we were pleased to be told we could have some too and even have a choice of colour and arms or no arms. However there was a condition that the chairs had a limit of 100kg, and if this was an issue to inform the head of centre who would make arrangements for suitable seating. Now this all seemed very reasonable but one of the programmers was absolutely livid about this and felt he was being discriminated against by having a suitable chair provided due to his weight. There was a good reason for the weight limit. There were a couple of cases of the gas cylinder exploding through the sest. That would bring tears to most peoples eyes. When I set up an office for two new staff I had to specify the higher weight limit chairs as they were both rather large. Jamie 12 7 3
