First my condolences to Andrew C's family.

 

Just before I had lunch a parcel arrived from Amazon.  An hour later Alexa told me it would arrive later today.

 

I had more texts from the surgery, the relevant one tells me that while my overall cholesterol level is acceptable (4.7) the ratio is poor (5.2).  They suggest I should consider statins - I tried them some years ago.  The first problem was that I lost the ability to sleep, then I started to produce dark coloured urine and suffered muscle pains   The last straw was when I experienced memory problems - one example was driving to a friend's house and having no idea how I got there.  Worse was losing track of days of the week, and suddenly not having a clue as to what to do when acting as server at church.

 

My GP simply said no statins ever again.  It took several months for me to get back to normal, fortunately my memory came back well and quickly.

 

I think I will just get on with my life day to day as usual.

Wow! totally unexpected to hear about Andrew C, Ian, please offer our condolences to Liz and his family. 😒

 

POETS and has been quiet all week around here with little to report.

Yesterday Jemma dropped off Whitney for an extended stay - 8-10 days - as she and Brendan are off on vacation in Sweden.

 

Just had the city building inspector over to check the furnace/AC installation, all perfect and he said "whoever did this did an excellent job", so we're happy with the choice we made for the install.

Later and over the weekend we start getting all the "furnace room junk" that was moved out for the install BACK into its rightful place and out of our family room and guest bedroom, doubly important as we've got friends staying with us for a couple of days on Sunday, and they'll need the space and the bedroom useable! 🤪

 

Other than that, quiet weekend we hope.

 

Weather continues to be autumnal, 10C overnight the next few days and 20C the high, some rain forecast for Sunday.

Cripes.  I'm totally shocked about Andrew's loss, I often chatted elsewhere with him, and enjoyed his humour and companionship.  Our deepest condolences to all his family.

 

That has well and truly ruined my day.

Well I was going to offer cheery greetings from my side of the Boring Borough but the news stopped me, and the previously sunny skies have been replaced by rain...

 

We've reached year end and it looks like we will manage to sell our brokerage arm (or at least the UK part of it) at midnight, which means that the team which  was 5 at the beginning of summer is now down to 2. On the plus side, in my appraisal (which is now with one of the two main board execs) we are expecting to recruit more people for the team....

 

Ocado delivered this morning - a few minor subs - but it leads me to pose a question to which I have no answer; why do they always put tins of baked beans and onions in the fridge bags and tomatoes in the general bags?

The Boring Borough of Bexley has just got somewhat more Boring;  I'd like to think Andrew is looking down and thinking "Well, it's a bluddy good job I got to use up all my annual leave after all...."

All such events are a shock, but when it happens to someone who has not yet reached retirement I find it even more depressing ☹️

Wow, happily started to go through and then Andrew C - the mood changed especially as he was too young (viz not yet retirement age) - so thoughts with his wife and family.  Like many others only knew him via RM and always looked forward to the comments from 'The boring borough' as they were so succinct.

 

As Gwiver stated 'none of us know our time' ...

A bit's n pieces day, much of which has been creating a table to see what on earth a certain G & E company has been doing with regards to charging a certain Bear - cos' they really haven't got a clue.  Fortunately it's apparent that Bear is currently smiling 😁 - though that could change.  I'll see what happens over the next couple of months and then see about jumping ship, as it could prove very advantageous to do so.....

In other news, a couple of Freecycle items were due to be collected today - but are no-shows as yet.  I hope they don't prove to be ar5ebadgers, though fortunately the items in question are very small so not in the way.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I was shocked to hear the terrible news about Andrew C. especially as he was quite young compared to many of us. Condolences to his wife, family and friends.

Only the latest one - I had a walk around there but couldn't see anything else, he's generally pretty tidy and considerate, but I have to drive right behind where he keeps/loads his van.  Just bad luck I think.  The one last week was a rock that nature had placed just where I needed to be as a *&^%$£ Range Rover driver wanted my bit of a single track road.  Didn't even stop, the git. 

 

Interesting survey done on the spot by Mrs NHN as I changed the wheel, bearing in mind this is a VERY remote road, which is alleged to be the steepest in the UK. 100% of motorcyclists stopped to see we were OK or needed help.  But only 30% of car drivers.....

Just played the Welsh lullaby Suo Gân* in remembrance of Andrew C on my new Indian flute. I first played it in remembrance of the Queen the day before her funeral outside the church next the Railway Museum in Betws-y-coed. I have polished it up a bit since, added an Indian influenced intro, and gave Andrew two verses.

Absolutely gutted to have just heard the very sad news about Andrew.  Bexley may be boring but his posts never were and I always looked forward to them and more often than not they made me smile.

Evening all. The tail is firmly in the groove after hearing about Andrew. It's particularly poignant as only ten days ago I was saying to him we don't know what's round the corner and hoping he could quit the rat-race asap and enjoy the better things in life. Thoughts are with his family and friends. RIP Officer Cribtrue.

Some parts of the southwest Florida coast, devastated by the direct impact of the hurricane, are now seeing flooding worsen as hurricane rainfall from inland Florida returns to the coast. People who survived the storm are now having to evacuate as existing flood waters rise, even though the storm surge went through two days ago.

The Mary Gillick portrait of EIIR (unveiled in 1952 and done before the coronation) had a laurel garland* and appeared on coinage in 1953. Apparently it was still in use at the Royal Mint, though not on circulated coins.

The Arnold Machin portrait (approved in 1964) appeared (first?) on Australian decimal coinage in 1966. It would appear on British coinage in 1968.

There were reports on the BBC news to the effect that whilst many homeowners have insurance against storm damage, they are not covered for flooding.  It also seems that sharks and gators are swimming the streets.....
