The general gist of it being an old, un-attributed & potential Old Master painting used as an alter piece was given to a a Glasgow church circa 1850 when it opened. That church is in Port Glasgow, not Glasgow - quite different places. My wife and I were married in that church, as were her parents and one set of grandparents, so we found the program quite interesting. After an on line meet up with some friends I have taken herself out for a meal. Excellent food.. Two courses and a bottle of wine.. now stuffed! ( and it cost £60.. a bargain!!) Time for some sleep before I collect the van and drive to Wigan tomorrow. I may meet up with an ER there... Sleep well! Baz

RMweb Premium polybear Posted September 29, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 29, 2022 Bear here..... Ears lowered this morning - twelve quid gone. The Barber also works 3 days a week in London - he mentioned that certain Barbers in London (e.g. "Ruffians") charge £58 quid.....bluddy hell. Then a morning of bits n' pieces - including a 45 minute call to EDF that was less than fruitful. Ar5ebadgers. At least college enrolment went smoothly(ish) - but still took 30 minutes; the old college enrolment process was ten minutes on the laptop and job done. A bit more swarf making - this time on the bluddy great milling machine; Bear now has (apart from a little polishing) a fly cutter to the same design as a fellow college buddy - Bear used it last term and it worked very well indeed, hence the decision to make my own. Tomorrow? MIUABGAD, to include painting a plinth (a ready-made MDF jobbie from the 'bay) to position Basil the Bear on - Basil hasn't been very well and this is the only feasible way that Bear can think of to make him feel a little better..... 8
Popular Post woodenhead
Dawned on me this evening that I might be happier playing with trains than dwelling on politics. I’ve cleaned my YouTube history to remove the politics and just leave trains, music and webby development stuff. Hopefully I can have some time now less focused on the harsh realities of life. Well that’s the plan…. 7 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted September 29, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 29, 2022 Good evening everyone Well not long after I’d posted on ER’s this morning, things changed rather quickly! It started off with a phone call from the dentist asking if I’d mind changing my appointment to next week, as they needed to do an emergency extraction on another patient. I didn’t mind being deferred, so I go now on Tuesday morning at 10:15. This then changed the rest of the day, so instead of going to the butchers and the Trafford Centre today, Sheila suggested that I went to Ikea on my own, which to be honest I didn’t mind, as I’m usually much quicker when I’m unaccompanied and not distracted by cries of, oooh, look at this and oooh look at that etc. I’d dropped Sheila off at her Zumba class just after 9 o’clock and I wanted to miss the tail end of the rush hour, I came back home, did a few quick tasks before setting off for Ikea about 10 o’clock. The motorway was fairly clear by then and there were no speed restrictions, so I got there for about 10:20. I wasn’t in Ikea long, probably 30-35 minutes then it was head back for home. Once again the traffic was free flowing, so I got back home about 11:15, Sheila turned up just as I was getting the frames out of the boot of the car. The trip had been quite successful, in that I was able to purchase all the picture frames Sheila wanted. I also bought myself a new clock for the workshop, as my old one was kn@ckered. However, I now have the task of fitting pictures into all the frames, all 10 of them, although to be fair, I don’t mind that. Charlie turned up at about 2 o’clock and after a quick chat with his nana, we both headed to the workshop and spent a very pleasant 3 hours in there. He continued working on his current figure, whilst I made a start on the modified turntable control board. By the end of the session, it’s almost finished, I just need to fit all the board connectors, then it’s ready for testing. Whilst Charlie and I were in the workshop, Sheila had a phone call from the opticians, telling her that we had won a prize in the Macmillan Coffee morning raffle that we’d bought tickets for a couple of weeks ago, so I’ll pick that up tomorrow. 24

The hurricane is reforming in the Atlantic and headed for Charleston as a category 1 storm. Hopefully Dave's ( @J. S. I am over a hundred miles from the "pond" and a little more the 500 feet asl so a storm surge is of no concern to me directly. As for drainage, I am on the side of a gentle hill, so based on previous storms there should be no problems there. What does concern me a bit is wind and trees. There is a cottonwood that is too close to the house; cottonwood is brittle and the tree is always dropping small stems and LEAVES! It is going to be removed soon; hopefully by tree people, but not one named Ian! But it has survived other storms; a couple of years ago we had two a week or so apart and their tracks literally crossed about 60 or so miles south of me. One west off the ocean and one north out of the Gulf; it stood up to them.

RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted September 30, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 30, 2022 Ey up! Early morning as herself has gone into "don't panic but I need to get you to the van hire place early" mode. Why? Well it means she can spend more time volunteering at the Sue Ryder shop. Still feel full from last night.. it was a very nice meal. Hopefully our American correspondents can stay safe from the weather. Hopefully today will not be too stressful for any of the ERs. Stay safe! Baz 19 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted September 30, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted September 30, 2022 Mooring Awl, 5 hours of erratic not sleeping, long awake, then finally I get to sleep for a couple of hours and Ben the I want Collie turns up.... I suspect the approaching storm is upsetting my joints... It was a very happy Ben bouncing around the garden, there were saw deer in the garden last night, so he had something to follow the trail of.. It's cool but not as cool as yesterday, a heavy dew, clear ish skies, not cloud but a high mist.. We are now booked in for covid and flu vaccinations together, unfortunately it means taking a Monday off, which is inconvenient both for me and work. They are only doing the vaccinations on limited days.. £12 for a hair cut?... I've got a lawnmower... Last time I had a commercial haircut was applying for this job I'm soon to retire from nearly 20 years ago.. if it's important SWMBO will tidy things up, if not I'll just lop bits off with scissors, the rest falls off by itself...there ain't that much left.. Plans for today, Mow the main area before the rain arrives. Then bobbin making. But first Ben says he wants me to make my breakfast.. he wants his bit of bacon. 15 1

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted September 30, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 30, 2022 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Not much fuss from Arthur Itis this morning, just the normal stiff joints on the (left) side I was sleeping on that soon cleared but Nurofen has been taken. According to the forecast it might be a good day to stay indoors. The lawn looks as if will need another cut soon but not while its wet. 17
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted September 30, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 30, 2022 Good morning everyone It’s dull and grey but currently dry, but rain is forecast for later in the day. Today will be very much back to normal, so I will head of to the butchers shortly to collect the week’s meat rations and a pork pie for my dinner. Then it’s off to the Trafford Centre for a few more items that we can’t get locally. I think there may be a visit to the gift shop in Dunham Massey at some time today, but I’m not sure if that’ll be before or after dinner. Back later. RMweb Premium jjb1970 Posted September 30, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted September 30, 2022 There's been a god awful screeching noise outside the office today, it appears to be emanating from four wheeled objects driving around in circles outside, apparently it's called a formula 1 race (no I'd never heard of it either). The MRT into the city centre was heaving, unusually it was quieter going out to Jurong in the afternoon than trains going the other way. Lot's of police around, lots of guides deployed to help people find their way around the MRT. Probably best to avoid the downtown over this weekend. 1
