RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted August 3, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 3, 2022 A note: Most of the TV discussed today has not been available to me; most of the rest I have avoided. So no ratings of those posts. I bought a pair of compression socks today. I think they were even more expensive than the hose for my kilt. 3
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted August 3, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 3, 2022 (edited) at the moorings Awl, Inspector George Gently were a good Norfolk boy, and his crime area was Norfolk, at least it was in the books , had it been so on TV I might have watched it. Yesterday started oddly we were getting the cannon and flags ready when I noticed a cherry picker turned up and a man was up top looking down the chimneys on this In fact he was peering down the nearest chimney in shot.. So I made a rapid run walk across and shouted up to him "we in seven minutes are about to make a "b"""""y big bang". He said "thanks for letting me know, but I'll probably forget and s**t my self anyway" The new batch shotgun cartridges did not disappoint!!! The wind got up too high yesterday so I didn't sail BM, did rescue boat all day. The big boats were all reefed, but the dinghy's weren't. So we fished a few out. Bingo and fish and chips sent well after, though I got nowhere near any prizes. A better night's sleep though I woke at 02:00 with a headache, so little pink pills were deployed and I got another 2.5 hours sleep. Forecast 14 to 24 mph southwesterly, which is good, that's within what I'll sail BM. Low tide 10:20. Time for muggacoffee number 2. Jimmy Nail is a genuine bloke - his autobiography was interesting. Bear sat behind him on the BA Shuttle from LHR to Edinburgh (Dec 1985/Jan 1986); I leaned across and got his autograph - he was as good as gold. This was at the time when Series 1 was on the TV; a Stewardess clocked what I did and quietly asked me who he was - when I told her there were several Stewardesses queued up for his Autograph shortly afterwards...... We saw him standing at the Bus Stop outside the Airport shortly after we'd collected the hire car. Bluddy hell, that was nearly 40 years ago 😮 - where did it all go? 16
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted August 3, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 3, 2022 Good moani g from the Charente. In the 20's now due to get to 37 today. This is our 3rd heatwave or canicule as the locals say. We of course are what would have been called offcumduns in partscof Yorkshire. I had a good day yesterday despite the heat. Trainspotting at Sant-Pierre-des-Corps. That's what the former water tower proclaims as it towers above the viaduct that the A10 autoroute crosses. It was warm but I'd frozen a 1.5l bottle of water the night before and that provided ice cold water throughout the afternoon. Lots of trains were seen including one thst was pink all over. My usual co conspirator had family staying so couldn't come but had doubted that his knees would have coped with standing on a bridge for many hours. I did discover somewhere where I could park the car and watch the trains. No point putting it into the satnav though. It's right underneath the A10 viaduct and the satnag came over all unnecessary and thought that I was on the top deck, not in the basement. Not a lot on the agenda for today due to the heat but this evening we are going to a concert given by a European youth orchestra. It should be good. Glad to hear from @Kelly. I hope that both you and your dad go on OK. Jamie 17

Today sees a sh*t load of washing day. Turdycurses. I also plan to start work on the shelving for the alcove - two shelves to widen (Bertie the Biscuit Jointer is gettin' all excited as we speak at the thought of getting his Tool into a Slot....), two rails to screw to the wall (hopefully straight, level and at the right height) and the two narrower(?) shelves profiled to suit the walls (why couldn't they have been exactly square to each other? Would that have been too much to ask?); profiling of the wider shelves will have to wait until the glue has dried, so won't be today. I'm also on the lookout for a TV unit with doors on (which still allow the various remotes to work) so all the gadgets don't get dusty (the current unit is an open-shelf glass jobbie - which looks mighty fine immediately just after a serious dustin' session - but goes rapidly downhill from there 😡 ). Disguising all the spaghetti that normally dangles out the back and is even more of a b1tch to dust would be a distinct advantage. Oh yes, and it needs to be a corner TV Unit.... The additions on the back are a three socket extension (only one plug to remove if you want to move it) and a couple of cleats to hang the cables from, and some cable ties to keep things tidy. There was once a connection for the aerial but now I'm on cable the box works off the Wi-Fi. 12
RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted August 3, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 3, 2022 Good morning all, Somewhat dull and dismal here with outbreaks of rain or drizzle forecast and the chance of sunshine later. Currently 19°C and it may rise to 27°C ...or more. Spent a couple of hours watching and enjoying the gymnastics yesterday. Those young men and women really are superb athletes but they must be absolutely bonkers as well, especially when on the asymmetric or the high bars. Also watched some swimming and athletics and there will be more of the latter today after I've taken my daily exercise in the form of a walk. Have a good one, Bob.

Made it to my first show since before the pandemic the other week too (DEMU Showcase), it was certainly an effort pushing myself around in a wheelchair (I'm nowhere near being able to walk with crutches for very long before my back starts complaining). But a good show all the same and I (with Natalie's help) managed ok. Next show ExpoEM later this month in August, then Scaleforum in September then the last show for the year Warley probably. 13 3

Today we are going to RHS Bridgewater to take a walk round the gardens, visit the garden centre and have a drink. No doubt we will return with a few plants, but then if we don’t spend it, the kids will! Bak later. Brian.

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted August 3, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted August 3, 2022 Morning world. 21C, dry and blowing a hoolie, making what would otherwise be a nice day a touch uncomfortable. Bad night, hips not good - interestingly I am at the hospickle in the Big City this afternoon to have another go at fixing one issue, by sticking a *&^%$g great needle into it and discharging some kind of goo in there. Had it before, it a) hurts, b) didn't work! This time it is to be 'real time' guided, to see if they can hit the right spot. It is kind of trying just about anything now as the surgeon is admittedly unsure of just what is going on in there, I had surgery on it 12 years ago which worked well for some time but he is sure that issue is resolved - this is something else, he just can't work out what, so it is a process of elimination now. Hopefully it isn't me that gets eliminated. I did watch Spender, enjoyed it. Jimmy Nail was refreshingly honest about his background in his book, bad lad made good. 2
RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted August 3, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted August 3, 2022 (edited) We have been for a short walk. One lap only of the local rec as this time it was The Hip that protested half way round so that was me hobbling for the rest of the way. RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted August 3, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted August 3, 2022 Yesterday started with the Asda delivery, two substitutes, both perfectly aceptable - in fact I'd nearly ordered them both instead of what I did order. Then I had the trip to the soliciotors to deliver the signed letter, the completed forms about the flat and all the supporting evidence. It takes just over five minutes to drive there, I parked on the Quayside as usual, buzzed the doorbell and got straight in. My ID - driving licence, passport, bank statements and community charge letter were all checked and copied and I passed the test. Apparently I have to do this each time I ask them to do something, even though they did it for the probate application. I've not had a phone call from them so the stuff about the flat must have been OK. While I was waiting for the copying to be done I had a look out of the window, it is a great view across the river and harbour to the sea, in the distance I could see a ship waiting to come in and also the ships at the top end of the harbour doing whatever offshore support vessels do when they are in port. Then it was back to the car, there weren't any fishing boats to watch so I drove to the beach and parked - thank goodness it is free so I can go as often as I like - and walked along the promenade and the path through the links for about 45 minutes. I was wearing a new pair of shoes which are still a bit stiff so I was careful not to get blisters. It was just the right time for coffee when I got home. After that I did a bit more tidying and managed to put my address book and Mum's - I must copy the relevant ones from hers to mine sometime - in a desk drawer. Her desk has more drawers than the one I used to use. Lunch was another salad, I like them in the summer. I'd just finished when the window cleaner came, then later on I decided to watch "Easter Parade" as it was on TV in the afternoon, it made a pleasant change from doing things. When the film finished I tidied up the garden - mainly just deadheading and had a mug of tea and a jam tart. Then the evening passed pleasantly listening to music, watching Cirque du Soleil and an old Van der Valk (the original one). 19
RMweb Premium polybear Posted August 3, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 3, 2022 Bear here..... Two shelf support rails screwed to the wall - though the second rail still requires two of the fixing holes drilling (the drill battery decided to die before I was finished); I did have fun and games with one hole when the pilot drill (a 4mm masonry bit) stopped making progress; when I checked I discovered that the tip of the drill bit had sheared off - and was still in the hole. Turdycurses. In the end I stopped messing and used the SDS Drill on the hole and that finished it off. Right, the drill battery should have sufficient charge to finish the job, after which I'll fire up the biscuit jointer and have a crack at widening a couple of shelves..... Bear gone....
Popular Post Natalie
Hi Just a quick note to say that I am still about. Had been unwell with a virus for about 4 weeks but that is all sorted now. It was not the c word. Had a nice turn up which will make things a lot lot easier for a while. Currently sat in a supermarket car park (this sun is awful but then i am allergic to ultraviolet light..) at Walsgrave whilst waiting for Kelly's partner to finish his hospital appointment. Kelly doing well too and making good progress. Hope everybody is also well but I have to read from page 11025 to catch up so apologies for not addressing any specific issues. Popular Post Ian Abel
Nice to hear from @Kelly and @Natalie stay safe and well... HUMP Day... Seems in the general way of things I managed to miss posting yesterday, no reason, just busy I guess!! Yesterday we had the first of several companies in to discuss replacing our furnace/aircon units. The current pair are apparently 36 years old, we've only owned this place 4 years so didn't really know, the MRs figures we should address this before we're looking at replacing the items on a fixed retirement income. Nothing really wrong with them, other than old, but with the changing climate and not wanting to find ourselves in need of repair/replacement at the worst time some year, we're going to get it done soon. Only other activity/amusement was with work. As some may recall, my business unit was bought out from the then parent company a year ago. Until that point in time, especially since I've been toiling with the same client for near on 8 years now, the SOW (statement of Work) was really a verbal, IF THAT, acceptance. Don't think we had a written one for a few years. The NEW MOTHERSHIP requires a current/valid SOW for me to even post time on a project. Panic ensued from those at higher pay grades than me, as the SOW expires Friday and they'd not heard beans from the client - well, we DO have sales/project staff that should be dealing with that, don't we?? Anyway, they asked me to inquire as to a signature being provided. Managed to get it done without issue, with the comment from the client "There is no way we want to lose you, it's been signed". Comforting I suppose, but I'm definitely NOT IMPRESSED by the MOTHERSHIP abilities, oh well, not MY problem really, they put the check in my bank account every week, when they stop doing that I'll get excited 🤣🤪 Last night was "National Night Out" in the US, designed to get communities/neighborhoods actively together to also help promote a sense of community/safety. Local block captain did a great job and we had a good time INSPITE OF IT BEING 35C and horribly humid out there. Everyone provided some food items, and the hosts griiled "anything you wanted to bring". Kids really enjoyed it, and as usual, provided you request in advance, the city police showed up with a "cop car" and all the kids got to sit in it, ask question of the cops and play with the siren 🤣 Our city police are an excellent group/team and was nice to have two of them there. They also explain about the local programs designed to assist the public with emergency calls, and some details of the data best provided on a call, etc., etc. Having stood outside for 2.5 hours in the miserable heat/humidity we came home around 9PM showered and collapsed in the cool of the A/C <phew> Today, not much happening, other than a morning email/sigh of relief from my boos as he had finally heard the SOW had been signed 🤯 Weather supposed to be better today, 20 sunny and a slight breeze first thing after an overnight storm, unfortunately not much rain out of it. High later ONLY 30C Carry on. 11 1

The current pair are apparently 36 years old, we've only owned this place 4 years so didn't really know, Was this not identified during a home inspection with the purchase of your home? When I sold my house in the Chicago suburbs the buyer's home inspector declared that my furnace (which had utterly nothing wrong with it) being 20 years old was life expired. The buyer would not proceed with their purchase until a new furnace was installed. My current high-efficiency furnace is almost six years old and as related already here, the fan motor already failed. I did learn a lot about it when the new fan motor was installed. I had never thought about it but the flue is actually PVC and there is a blower to vent the combustion products*. There's a apparently a whole start up sequence before the heat comes on. * They lose enough heat in the heat-exchanger. There was no visible damage to the old motor, except for surface oil on the casing (where there shouldn't be). It didn't smell like burnt wiring either. It was drawing 10A while failed. The new motor draws 5A under load. Edited August 3, 2022 by Ozexpatriate 10

Oooh bu££er. The Sneezing Problem hasn’t misbehaved itself here for a couple of weeks. It’s much to do with which pollens or other irritants we are individually allergic to. In other news it seems I can still turn heads. I always get a crop of “good morning”s at the House of Fun. One of the regulars this morning added “Oh - You’re wearing a ring …… “ Hmmmmmm. Flattered? Surprised more like. Hopefuls of the Day Award went to the group of seven who presented one ticket (just the one - it seems none of the others had paid anything) from “London Terminals to Clapham Junction”. Price? £3.90. With the question “This will take us to Exeter, yes?” Errrrr. No. Sir. You need tickets for everyone and they need to say Exeter on them. That’s the difference (walk-up in the morning peak times seven) between the £3.90 you paid and £560. Ouch. I saw them boarding the train a little later. Along with around three suitcases each. Happy travels. Speaking of which I am bidden to travel to the kitchen and slice onion and cabbage. If I want dinner tonight I’d better oblige! Stay well. 17 1

RMweb Premium polybear Posted August 3, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted August 3, 2022 Bear here.... All holes drilled (is there an unwritten law which states that when drilling holes in brick walls at least one of them wants to go a wanderin' out of position? Yep, that's a Rant); fortunately I seem (TBC) to have rescued the situation without too much aggro. Next on the list was adding widening strips to two of the shelves using off-cuts of Meranti; they're only 25mm wide but that's enough. Both shelves have received the attention of the Biscuit Jointer and one is currently clamped on the workmate whilst the glue dries; I'll be gluing up the second shelf very shortly. Update: I've just glued up the second shelf and that's drying now. Oh yes, and the washing's all done. I've just found a company that colour matches aerosol spray paints to Crown colours - I want to spray the two shelf rails the same colour as the walls are painted so they blend in and are a lot less obtrusive; the only problem is the aerosol is fifteen quid (ouch....) plus another £8.34 on top for postage. Most definitely a Turdycurses moment. I've emailed Crown Paints to ask if the paint colour has a RAL or B.S. paint code so I can get some mixed at the local car place and so dodge the delivery cost. 12 2
