'morning all,

Seems to be a lot of talk about planning authorities, schools systems and exercise? My late F-i-L did have a run in with one local government planing officer, which as F-i-L was slightly hard of hearing had me along as help. All went well to start with until they got into a discussion over the size of the plot of land. Planning dept guy insisted in talking in Hectares F-i-L in acres! Needless to say there was then a lot of shouting, name calling (by F-i-L) and at the end of the day he didnt get the PP either.

Anyway it's POETS day today!

Enjoy

Morning all.a strange start to the day a very short rain shower less than 2minutes of heavy rain! We have sold the house for less than we wanted but it is sold and if the bloke fails to complete he loses his 10% deposit which is a sizeable chunk of cash no longer a mortgage slave now a rent slave.

I've just heard about "Staines upon Thames" and learned of the "Staines Riviera" - What?

Does this really prevent the town from being sneered at? The only thing I remember about Staines (apart from the writings of Dibber - which make it seem normal) is that "The Rolling Stones Rock and Roll Circus" was indeed filmed there.

"Staines Upon Thames" - say it slowly and let it roll around your tongue.......

Best, Pete.

I think Staines' image was probably even further harmed by Sacha Baron Cohen's Ali G character, who was supposedly from Staines. Mind you, probably no more so than Norwich's reputation was harmed by a certain Mr Partridge...

Morning all. Short day for us as it's a half day for the Scottish Government (at least in Edinburgh). We missed the last bank holiday, so we get this afternoon and Monday off.

Just listening to the White Album as I get ready for work. I'm always amazed how some amazing tunes are juxtaposed with (what I think is) awful dross on this album! (lights blue touch paper and retires to a safe distance....)

I sometimes facetiously refer to our local area as the the Thames Riviera but I think the Staines people are serious!! We used to get stains on Thames but they extended the sewage outfall pipe.

When a certain Mr. Clapton turned up at Abbey Road to do the solo on "While my Guitar Gently Weeps" John Lennon said: "ooh,er, now we'll have to behave". Then that inspired him on "Yer Blues".

I find I can enjoy all of it bar "Revolution No.9" which should have been on a Yoko solo...............

Best, Pete.

Funnily enough, as soon as 'dross' was mentioned in relation to the White Album, 'Revolution No 9' was the first track I thought of. It appears a concensus is building here!

Mick. Glad your sale is going through, you're due some 'feelgood factor' yourself and yes, I got some too yesterday after that. Don, give your eyeballs a rest and don't read about running tomorrow so they can have a chance to recover!

Paradoxically, mentioning the effect of Ali G and Alan Partridge on their respective towns; in relation to Glasgow, Rab C. Nesbit appears to have been viewed as an ambassador... ;)

Yes, I was thinking of Revolution No.9 and also The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill in particular...

I've decided to do some fundraising for the NSPKU when I do my 10K in a fortnight. It'll give me the motivation to keep going as I take to running like a fish takes to crocheting...

Mick - really pleased to hear the house is selling!

Under auction conditions of sale we should be paid in 28 days a none refundable 10% deposit has been taken so the remainder is due within the month so barring any disaster befalling the buyer it is sold. A long way short of the mortgage I am sad to say but we have off loaded the money pit

Morning all.

I sure am glad it's weekend as I much needed to catch up with what rest I did not get during the week. I guess I can now see what several of my colleagues described when they described how demanding this kind of job can be for beginners, as you usually tend to work doubly hard in an attempt to kind of advertise for yourself. When I remarked how I would often have the feeling of knowing next to nothing about teaching as of yet and was often unsure whether I had just goofed up, one of them also said that this is a feeling which takes a lot of time to get rid of even for NQTs on probation. It still is kind of hard to imagine any of my colleagues will ever have been in a similar kind of situation when they started, considering how experienced they appear to be.

Morning all.

Rather cloudy but quite warm here.

Matthew sent a text message to let us know that he had got to Hong Kong. We'll go off to collect him from Heathrow later today after lunch at MiL's.

I don't think I'll be able to fit in a visit to the exhibition at Shenfield today but I'm sure there will be a report on RMweb later.

Morning, cloudy and autumnal here today. The first latte (yeh, I know I'm a big jessie) of the day is going down very well. A sporty weekend is in the offing, although watching rather than participating - bit of a quiet morning then going to watch my son's debut for Romsey Rugby club vets at the ripe old age of 36.

He used to be really good when he was a teenager getting up to county level before a nasty injury curtailed his progress, however then he was on the wing - now good living has dictated that he will be rumbling along with the forwards today. Beers and a barbeque afterwards then staying over at his tonight. Tomorrow it's up early to go into Southampton for a full English breakfast watching England v Georgia on the big screen.

Then, and I'm getting tired just thinking about all of this, lunch with a few beers after which it's off to St. Marys to watch grown men chase a different shaped bag of wind - Southampton v Birmingham in the Championship.

I'll need to go back to work for a rest after that lot......

Have a good one.

Enjoy your weekend Phill. Sounds very tiring.

I've just had a full breakfast as I am in a hotel in the Lake District. Can't really tell where the lakes stop and the rain starts though. Very wet.

SWMBO is not with me as once a year we have a gentlemen's weekend. Old school and university friends get together once a year for a walking weekend. When we first started iback in the eighties it was a long walk followed by short drinking/socialising sessions These days it is the walks that are short and the socialising long. I missed last year due to a family wedding so there are some here that I haven't seen for two years.

I intend to enjoy my weekend in spite of the weather. Enjoy yours.

On a nice weekend day like today it would be nice to take Robbie onto the Downs but we will just go round the nearby fields today. I don't want to have to clean the car out too much so I'm not taking him anywhere he can get wet today. When Robert mentioned his hobby the other day I looked up geocaching to see if people did it in Benfleet. Apparently they do, until now I thought they were truffle hunters rooting around old logs.

Morning all, bright sunshine as i type this which is a pleasant suprise. The lakes are there for a reason,to catch all the water that falls from the sky. I cannot think of a worse holiday than the one I spent in a tent in the lakes.....
