Yesterday was the first parliamentary sitting day since the June election, many first-time MPs and senators gave their maiden speech. Including Jana Stewart, the first aboriginal senator to ever represent the state of Victoria. At the end the entire senate chamber and visiting members of the Lower house gave her a standing ovation and a round of applause. No need to guess who stayed seated through it all looking at her mobile phone.... Probably googling pictures of Hitler. Popular Post monkeysarefun
This weekend is Starfest 2022, 3 days of meteor showers in a civilised hour for a change in the one direction I can see to the horizon. However, after just coming in from 3 hours staring at the dark, I'm giving tonight's effort one star, that's my rating not the number of meteors I saw, that was about 5. All was not lost but, the constellation prize (get it?!l) was the Milky way looking fantastic on this moonless night so I got a few pics. Technical details for those interested in the finer points of astrophotography - they were taken with my mobile phone balanced on top of my front fence post. Neighbours porch light and the streetlight drowned out some of the edge details on the first wideangle shot but the night was too cold to wander to a darker location , I just pushed the button and dashed inside into the warm for the 4 minute of each exposure. 20

Popular Post Ian Abel
POETS, probably give that a try... Late reporting in as I had a 8Am appointment with the garage. Needed the tires checked and one was losing pressure. All OK, just a valve stem that was corroded (winter road salt wreaks havoc on even the smallest parts), that was replaced and the three OTHER tires that had un-removeable valve-stem caps were fixed. Metal caps were on the valve stems, again, not the best in this climate and they'd corroded on - all fixed now. Yesterday, uneventful, Jemma came over for dinner before heading out on a 4-day trip, so we've got Whitney for the weekend. We did discover one of our neighbors managed to fall at her cabin and break her right arm in three places! 🤯 She's a regular at our happy hours and we've known her 30+ years. Since she's pretty much house bound as a result, we'll be helping her over the weekend and until she recovers. Not much planned for the weekend, other than the helping hand described above. Weather really pleasant, 14C when I took the car in, partly cloudy with a light breeze. High around 26C expected. Enjoy the weekend. 1

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 29, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29, 2022 Evening all from Estuary-Land. My mum used to watch soaps religiously but I could never get into them. I can remember Coronation Street when it first started but they just don't interest me. Now to see what the fridge has in the way of dinner.
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted July 29, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29, 2022 Well the ride out was fun, then dashed back after lunch for a train ride down to the Big City, ride with some nice Australians, they didn't mention soap operas. Then dindins in the pub, ride back with Mrs NHN when the temperature finally got to 20c, which made a ride in the open trailer pleasant. 8 sets out, probably everything with insulation that worked was running. Cars 1, 2, 7, 9, 14, 21, 32, 33.

It'll be the lining paper next. Then it was scraping the floor around the trench that was filled yesterday in order to remove remnants of 30+ year-old tile adhesive and self-levelling compound - a right p1g of a job using a very second-hand wood chisel that was as blunt as hell many moons ago and has been reserved for such jobs as a result. If the Bearypaws aren't giving me serious grief tomorrow as a result it'll be a miracle. Also a visit to the Chemist to collect the prescription sorted out early as a result of a certain Bear taking a double dose for the last month; I discovered tonight that the various other meds. normally swallowed in the evening (as well as after brekkies) had been swallowed at lunchtime by mistake. Oops. I have a feeling that I'm just not safe being let out alone..... 1

RMweb Premium The White Rabbit Posted July 29, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 29, 2022 For people with many different tablets to take, especially at different times of the day, some medical folk provide a 'dosset box', with dates and times printed on it and the tablets dispensed into the tabs by the pharmacy. My mother had one in the closing months of her life. It was useful as she was on a lot of medication, literally c15-20 tablets a day/24 hours. 16 2

I see your 23°C and raise you 31°C at noon, headed for 37°C later. Yesterday saw the return of the Oregon Brewers' Festival after two years of pandemic hiatus. I was planning to go today, then not planning to go, then planning to go and finally during my walk talked myself out of it. Overnight temperatures were warm and it was already over 28°C when I returned from walking at 10:30am. It would be brutally hot at the beer festival, and would involve getting the bus - with all the extra walking in the heat to the bus stop. Plus, ever since the OBF changed their invitations to include only brewers in Oregon, everyone comes to the festival with 'summer beers' - wall to wall IPAs, lagers and Pilsners with a Kölsch or Berliner Weisse to round it up. I don't feel like I am missing much in the beer tasting department - other than doing something fun and being around people enjoying themselves. In the meantime it is >28°C indoors. I wasn't able to shift any heat last night - it was still around 27°C when I turned in around 1:00am even after running fans for an hour or two. Monday cannot arrive fast enough. Popular Post Ozexpatriate
My neighbour is installing solar panels - on the side of his roof that faces my house. They appear to be a new non-reflective design, thankfully. My neighbour over the back fence has the older dark blue panels. These are highly reflective and for a little while each morning close to the solstice I get a full 'death ray' shining straight through the house. I am impressed by the amount of substantial conduit and panels. There are at least ten separate electrical boxes - breaker panels, line isolators, main breakers, etc. Each solar panel appears to have it's own breaker. The installers have been showing up around 7:00am* and no one is on the roof after noon. This has dragged out the installation, but I think it's sensible. * Not super helpful when I am not getting to bed before 1:00am to try to cool the house with fans. After last year's heat dome (47°C), the Oregon State legislature passed new laws about working in the heat, increasing mandatory breaks and hydration when there is a heat wave. Regulations apply to working outdoors and in non-air conditioned indoor spaces. Many of the food carts are closed. Appropriate and necessary. About four people have died from heat-related causes this week. 10 9

My "system" failed me the other day. Going to bed (at 1:00am) I noticed my morning meds (including blood pressure) sitting in their system-designated place. So 40 hours without a dose regularly taken every 24±1 hours. I prep them the night before, having had one a handful of those "did I take my meds?" moments and normally take them reliably with my morning ablutions. 14 1

They are split into Day then time Morning,Dinnertime,Teatime and Nighttime. For me, my meds are: before bed (calcium tabs with vitamin D, for osteoporosis), once a day at about the same time (long-acting insulin basal), daily at the same time (about 9pm seems to work for me, I'm usually awake and compus mentis) and repeat later if necessary (baclofen), before meals with dosage to suit the carbs (short-acting insulin), once a week after waking and on an empty stomach (osteoporosis). The fun happens if I forget the basal insulin (at least this one works much better than my previous if that happens), and when I sleep for 12 hours after a few hours of not really sleeping following a previous night with not enough sleep. So on many days I'm definitely not safe to be let out alone. But why would I want to go out ? 🤨 I just hope that Sartre didn't describe me correctly in Les Mains Sales: Non récuperable. ĸen ĸen Edited July 29, 2022 by zarniwhoop Repetion, but not deviation
