RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted July 13, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 13, 2022 Good morning all, Mainly cloudy here but very warm again. Currently 22°C and could reach 29°C. There is the chance of some drizzle shortly and sunny spells later. Surprisingly I had a good night's sleep and The Hand seems a bit better this morning. This afternoon I have another hospital appointment to have the wound checked and will probably do a slow walk home and meet The Boss en route for a drink. Have a good one, Bob. 16
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted July 13, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 13, 2022 Mega rant warning.... Walked to Doctors. Very few people at the MarieCeleste. GP late, then his opening words " and why are you here today?".. because you told me to be here....... After a bit of memory jogging he has decided he will write to the local Diabetic control group about changing my meds (time from consultants letter now 7 months). I asked if he will get a response as the dispensing Pharmacist wrote in January with no response. Answer " she wrote to thr Pharmacist not to a doctor" Meanwhile my rising hb1macis down to "not trying to adjust my lifestyle"... Give me strength! He is hiding behind the NICC (offically " NICE" ) but unofficially termed the National institute for Clinical Cheapness! Who are still using medicines based on cheap is best..... Rant over.. now for a mugadecaff... Baz @The Q that music is great and MarkKnopfler played it at his concert in Leeds... so moving!
Popular Post BlackRat
Greetings one and all….. more painting today. Someone I know once rubbed pile cream into an injury by mistake, instead of the usual Fiery Jack cream… the other way around doesn’t bare thinking about. I don’t think they were able to blame anyone tho…..should’ve gone to Specsavers. Good to see national panic and hysteria over the warm weather, at least it’s a break from the ongoing Covid… whatever next? A level 4 national emergency? Really? Makes one wonder how the public services coped back during the day. I was only 14 in the summer of 76….. was that a level 4 emergency? I do remember stand pipes and not flushing loos…..and a Scout summer camp in the best weather ever. Still if the polar caps melt, and the sea level rises then it means as I live on top of a hill overlooking the estuary, I’ll have a house with waterside access etc …..happy days. Dont forget….. for those who are unable to make any sort of decision about their own care….. Slip Slap Slop! RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted July 13, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 13, 2022 Good morning everyone The sun is shining and the sky is blue with just a few white fluffy things dotted about, there is also a very light breeze. I say breeze, but to be honest, the trees are hardly moving at all, the temperature at the moment is 17C but it’s due to get hotter later. Today I’m hoping to get a bit of work done in the garden, as there are a lot of roses that need dead heading and there are a few strawberries that need picking too. Back later. RMweb Premium Popular Post The White Rabbit Posted July 13, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 13, 2022 Morning all, A more civilised day weatherwise is forecast. I might try a walk later, if so I hope to avoid slip slap slop, as cowpats are a greater danger (today) than the sun. Though the sunhat has been getting an airing recently, which it hasn't for a while, with not getting out much. Has anyone located the emoji for head against a brick wall yet? I couldn't see it last time, though some were not displaying properly. It sounds like it's needed. On the subject of medical rants/despair, my blood pressure rose recently by the proposal to charge patients for missing appointments. On the face of it, yes, it's a problem (and rude) but over the last three years or so, I and my parents have missed several appointments because ... we weren't told about them. And quite a few more were missed by doctors who were supposed to call one of us, never did. And when you take a morning off work to sit with an aged parent and help with the [rather important] call, that's very annoying. And should you have the temerity to suggest charging for missed appointments should work both ways, then you'd think you had just suggested daily animal cruelty be made compulsory. On the subject of animals and explosives, I recall the experiences of the Soviet anti-tank canine units, the theory being the dogs would run towards the Panzers and scramble underneath, activating a lever fuse on an explosive charge. The practice was most of the dogs were scared, panicked and either disappeared over the horizon or back towards their handlers. Natural justice perhaps? Another problem was the tanks used in training were diesel and the Wehrmacht used petrol engined tanks. Oops. Now, time to get on with it, and see how much the trees are waving their branches about today. 8 2

RMweb Gold Popular Post PupCam Posted July 13, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 13, 2022 Morning All! Oh what a busy day! Garden hedge trimmed and rare supermarket home delivery (we've sort of given up on them really) intercepted. I should be going for my daily walk shortly then this evening it's Pie & Pint night down the pub with my ex-work biker mates and then, clouds permitting, I feel the need to get the old 'scope set up to catch the Buck Super Moon. Hmm, best charge the camera battery then! In Other News Hopefully @Dave Hunt will have a more relaxed day today now the watershed of the funeral is past. Now's the time Dave to replay all those happy memories of times gone by and try and forget all the more recent difficulties and sadness. It's 17 years or so since I Iost my Dad but there's not a day goes past when he's not in my thoughts. The AJ is a living, throbbing reminder of one of his favourite machines and most of my wide ranging interests were nurtured by him. Perhaps I need to go for a chug past the Hunter lurking at RAF Henlow today? Anyway, look after yourself Dave. TTFNQ Alan 19 2 1
Popular Post iL Dottore
@Dave HuntI am pleased to hear that the service for your father went well. As @PupCam has said now the hardest part is over, one can move on to celebrating a long and interesting life well spent. When my father died (he lived in the US and because of Corona I could could not go to the funeral) after some sadness, I celebrated all that he gave me by enjoying – in his memory – one of his favourite meals. A true, sophisticated connoisseur of food, drink and politics - he imparted in me a life long love of good food, good drink and good conversation. In many cultures, including that of Ancient Egypt, it is believed that no one truly dies whilst their name is still spoken and I would add to that “no one truly dies when their friends and family celebrate and enjoy what they enjoyed“. RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted July 13, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 13, 2022 Bear here..... Well the prop was removed from beneath the ceiling rose and it didn't fall off the ceiling. That's a tick. Then I discovered that the brass woodscrews for securing the light assembly to the ceiling were (a) now a bit short to go thru' the rose and into the two thicknesses of wood and (b) scruffy. Did Bear have any new ones? Nope. Turdycurses. So it was find a couple of zinc plated jobbies and spray the heads with the gold paint. Job done. After that it was fill & sand a couple of tiny dinks in the rose then give it the first coat of emulsion - so far, so good. I also rescued a big fan from the loft (the sort with the propeller in the cage that take up a lot of room and are a right b1tch to get thru' a loft hatch so it can be stored for the 51 weeks of the year that it isn't needed) - Buddy over the road has expressed a desire to give it a good home as Bear has a couple of tower fans that are a lot less aggro, though not quite as effective. That's another item out of the loft - only 17,896 to go..... Buddy ex. next door phoned from his, sorry her flat, sorry Apartment in the south of France - it's 34C and the roads are clogged with grockles - and he's been designated to go shopping. And where is his SWMBO? Back in Blighty...... Life at Bear Towers does have it's advantages. 18 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post DaveF Posted July 13, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 13, 2022 Having arranged for the house clearance people to come on Wednesday I had to finish packing stuff up for them. I sudenly realised that I was going to run out of boxes so went to the the local Poundstretcher and bought a supply, which turned out to be just enough so everything ended up in plastic boxes. I had yet another look through Dad's paintings and drawings, also Mum's embroidery and bought a few more home. While I was at the flat I saw Neil who lives downstairs, there are obviously no hard feelings about me turning down his friend's offer on the flat. When I saw him before he asked if he could have a few of Dad's paintings so I invited him in to choose some, he also took some for another friend who is a railway enthusiast. In the afternoon I hung one of Dad's paintings in my spare room, the KWVLR Ivatt 2-6-2T 41241 approaching Oakworth in 1968 just after the line reopened as a preserved railway, a few weeks before we moved away from Yorkshire. It's typical of his style, a representation rather than photographic accuracy. It brings back happy memories of the time. I know its railway and this is ERs but.... By then I felt tired so I had a nap on the bed for about 45 minutes. Then it was the daily routine of plant watering followed by tea, reading and TV until bedtime. Shortly after we got her, whilst on a walk she decided to roll in some cowpats! After lining the car with loads of towels (which immediately went into the wash afterwards) we loaded her into the car and took her to Mrs IDs cousin who has an external shower. The moment the shower spray hit Lucy, she was off like a greased piglet. To make a long story short, we did manage to corral her and give her a thorough shampooing. She was less than happy with us that day. After reading up on the best way to maintain a short haired dog’s coat, we now only shampoo her once a year or whenever she has decided to roll in something noxious – although that happens very rarely as I think that Lucy, being a clever dog, has realised there is a connection between rolling in poo and getting a shampoo and shower. Arh well I left the 'best bit' out. Prior to going to the groomers DD and her staff went for her usual walk. This ensures she's done her abultions and is on the tired side. All was going well until on the way back to the car and only 50 yards from it , she decides she'll have one last dip in the lake. So ignoring my prostrations she picks the muddiest, slimiest area of the lake to go in. We rode home with all the windows open and then I had to hastily try and get rid of the worst of this gunk so as make her vaguely presentable to the groomer. If I hadn't been affected I would have probably been laughing my head off. 2

Coombe Barton
At school in music one of my fellow string players asked how Mantovani made the sound. The Music Master tried explaining how all the strings had to start noted early or finish them late. The guy who asked the question said something like "Oh, they can't keep to time then?" The reply was "Exactly."
