Popular Post Kelly
Oh joy as if things were not annoying enough. The nurses have just told me that the last covid swab came back positive so have to move wards and it is probably why today's surgery was cancelled. I don't really have much in the way of symptoms. I feel fine for the most part.
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 5, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 5, 2022 My last post had to be re-done as it disappeared. Now it has turned up on the editor (the original post). Its now been deleted. The foxes have returned to my garden but at the bottom beyond the pee-line. The forecast is for dry weather for the next few days so I'll renew it tomorrow. 13 2

Jamie No idea now. Until I come back with a negative test they'll have to do it in full hazmat gear, so they might well not put me on the list as they'd have to deep clean the theatre after me unless I was very last on the list.

She is feeling a bit fogged out at the moment hence hasn't posted any updates here. All good wishes to Kelly. Hope they can do the work soon. Anne broke her arm playing tennis some years ago. It was the same one she broke and had plated after falling into the canal as a child. She did it on a Thursday and they decided getting out various bits of ironmongery that had been left in before was going to be difficult. To get a clear run at it the surgeon decided that the best time to do it was in the evening. He assembled a team for Saturday night which was a good job because it took him three hours to clear it out and re-pin it. For the intervening 48 hours she was completely spaced out on medication. A second op to get rid of the new pins after 12 months and the arm was better than before. 1
Popular Post simontaylor484
Afternoon all Well that's the loft lighting finished and the last stuff put up there. Then things started to go downhill from there. The ladder I use is a folding 3 way jobble it has a bar with feet across both ends we have to take one off to get it through the lift hatch. Would it go back on no. One of the screws got stuck tried WD40 mole grips, the biggest screwdriver possible in the end I cut st screw out with the angle grinder. Lovely shower of sparks must have been high carbon steel. We then moved on to the spare bedroom a patch of ceiling needed repair from a leak from the bathroom sink above so we cut out the knackered plasterboard cut a new piece of plasterboard out it fit very well . Then the problems started. I bought a tub of ready mixed plaster from the large orange diy shed stirred it up then tried to get a layer over the board. It was like trying to plaster with bird poo its meant to be anti slump and this and that we managed to get a coat on eventually and cover ourselves with the dam stuff 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post The White Rabbit Posted March 5, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 5, 2022 Afternoon awl, Lots of water (and other *) under the bridge since I last checked in. I must have missed at least six months' worth of news. My apologies to everyone whose triumphs and disasters I've missed - if I put my foot in it, it's due to ignorance rather than nastiness or thoughtlessness. What can I say? When I last posted, I thought I'd be gone for just a few weeks sorting out some of the outstanding admin for my mother's estate and other domestic obligations, then I'd be back. However, on top of this, at a critical moment, I fell seriously ill and very nearly died - probably because of too much pressure and stress due to too many people relying on me and or asking me to do things for them. I don't want to dwell on what's happened and relating it is likely only to cause nausea (or worse) amongst readers - it is fairly disgusting and only those with a warped sense of morality or humanity could find it acceptable. Let's just say I have suffered from the various deficiencies of the NHS and at the moment am in limbo waiting to hear whether I have a long term future or (probably due to their negligence) whether I'm going to be crippled for life. To say I am hopping mad and worried sick is an understatement... I can't get out much, so attending gatherings the awl disapproves of is out for the foreseeable. Due to the uncertainty, I've put the business stock up for sale at a hefty discount - if I can attend shows in the future, great but right now it's best not to count chickens. If things improve enough (and I can sell enough of the stock to turn around in the workshop without knocking things off the shelves) then I can try some fiddling with miniature representations. Dogwalking would be very nice, sounds great, but could be a step too far atm...

Popular Post Kelly
I've now been moved to another ward. The bay in the previous ward was nice and quiet I have a feeling this one could be noisy. Oh well nothing to be done about it. Still feel relatively fine aside from a mild headache (not unusual for me) and a aching leg.
RMweb Premium Popular Post petethemole Posted March 5, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 5, 2022 Commiserations to Kelly and The White Rabbit. Here our beloved Tigger is more than a bit under the weather. He's been favouring his left hind leg for a few days; last night he was struggling to walk, dragging the leg. and it kept giving way under him. A visit to an emergency vet today revealed he has a thromboembolism, a blood clot blocking the flow to the leg, due to heart disease. He has had painkiller and has to have aspirin in the hope of clearing the clot, so is still with us. He has to see a regular vet next week. but unless they can do something about the heart disease the prognosis is not good; he may get another clot or have a heart attack. At least we're (sort of) prepared for the worst, but we're all sad ATM. 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted March 5, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 5, 2022 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Tried to phone my brother to give him birthday wishes but no answer. Not too worried as its not unusual for him to nod off while he's under dialysis I'll try again later if he doesn't call back. Despite having a two bed house I am finding it hard to find space to set up the layout. Having lived in this house for thirty three years and being something of a hoarder the place is rather cluttered. Tea is brewing so its be back later. 2
Popular Post Natalie
I don't know what to say to those who are suffering really badly other than I send you my love and best wishes in the hope that they may be of some use. Life and this world can really throw the brown stuff at some people. It is just not fair. I really hate it at times. Please be reassured that even if we have never met you are important elements of our lives and are greatly treasured. Hang in there, we are all rooting for you. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted March 5, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 5, 2022 And the same to you Natalie. I've been covered in the brown stuff myself at times and have occasionally struggled with the dark animal (the creature has been trying to escape over the past couple of weeks) so there is no doubt in my mind that chatting on here does help. In slightly better news the bits of Buddha that I Gorilla glued have actually stayed on so I call that progress. There's a long way to go yet. I quite enjoyed the rugby this afternoon but then I wasn't particularly bothered who won. I do know of at least one, maybe two of "we few, we happy few, we band of brothers" who will have different views to mine about the result. I had a delivery from the pharmacy this afternoon. I'm pretty sure the driver's boss won't be too impressed when I let him know that after ringing the doorbell the driver just left the package on the doorstep and was getting back into his van when I opened the door. Pizza night here and it was OK but then I'm not a big Pizza fan. I am a fan of red wine (you may have realised this from the occasional post ) and tonight's offering of a South African Shiraz/Grenache/Cinsault was most acceptable. The second glass I'm currently drinking may well be followed by a third. Cheers. 19 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted March 5, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 5, 2022 (edited) I have just returned from the garage. I went out with a black bin bag and filled it with rubbish, empty boxes, cans etc. I cleared stuff off the slot car track and even got a few cars lapping. Last time I used it was last year when our nieces and their parents visited. The model railway layout is almost accessible too. The workshop area of the garage is much tidier. Aditi had a good rummage round the freezers and found a few Indian meal portions and she has also cooked a couple of other vegetable items. We have only got one naan so there will be rice. Our food delivery arrived but I wasn’t required to help and was able to carry on in the garage. I had a chat with a couple of neighbours as they went by. Tom next door told me his rat plan (for the furry fiends visiting our garden from under his decking) which sounded pretty thorough. He was telling me they are a real nuisance for his work too. He installs and services garage forecourt equipment and there is cabling that rats nibble. They also like to get to the food in garages. He told one garage the wiring damage was probably rats. The owner was convinced when during the phone call Tom said one had just run over his foot! Tony Edited March 5, 2022 by Tony_S 19

Popular Post simontaylor484
My thoughts honour to all those suffering various problems. At the transport company i worked for the fitters found a dead rat in a pail of grease it looked like it had tried to eat the grease to get out. I'm sat in the bedroom watching stuff on you tube with a certain little dachshund snuggled near my feet the Mrs is fast asleep luckily she has had a really bad day due to side effects of her medication 1

Mongrels have “Hybrid Vigour” according to the geneticists. An unusual name occurs in both sides of my family, most people carrying it track back to one place. I have gone back six generations before them on pretty firm documentary evidence but so far haven't found a link. On my researches I did however find who spent the family fortune my great aunt said once existed. Due to the way money was passed on in those days it didn't come our way being a few children down a big family. The one who inherited the farm got into the silk trade and his son by his late 30s was shown as a retired silk merchant living on the south coast. They actually owned a large mill in Staffordshire which still stands, now being a mixed use business and residential property. His unmarried sister lived with his family and by the time he died quite young they had moved to a large house in Hampstead. It appears she had expensive tastes in entertainment, had spent most of the money and was living in a flat in Maida Vale by the time she died. It seems that even though people move around the world is quite small. two hundred years ago a direct ancestor on Dad's side lived about three miles from an ancestor of Anne's Mom. When we decided to get married we introduced our parents to each other. It turned out that my Mom knew Anne's Mom as a child when they lived in adjacent courtyards of inner-city Birmingham. The terraces in which they lived actually joined on to each other at the corner. Mom had known Anne's grandparents and great grandmother in the 1930s. A few years ago Anne's sister turned up with an old bible which had some notes on a sheet of paper stuck inside the cover. When I added the names to my files I found that one of my ancestors was married at the same church in Worcestershire as one of Anne's relatives in the 1850s. 12 5 2

I'm not a fan at all unless it says "Sugar Puffs" on the box So we suggested placing the excess on the bird feeder which the squiggles have annexed as their dining table. I'll report back on any explosions we become aware of later .... eating popcorn is apparently not a good idea if you are a squiggle
Ozexpatriate
21 hours ago, TheSignalEngineer said: I got interested in family trees when my sister and I had a long chat one day with a great aunt. 12 hours ago, Winslow Boy said: Of course the thing with names is that they can so easily be changed, particularly in times past or where record keeping isn't at its best. That's why the DNA check can be so revealing and contraversal. I remember my mum saying that there was someone on my fathers side taking a letter out of the name which I thought was a bit on the 'why the hell' but he must have had a good reason at the time. 11 hours ago, PhilJ W said: There is evidence in my family tree that a name was changed completely. ... The religious/political upheavals of the time, or the Civil War could be the reason for the name change. I can well imagine people changing their names with the multiple 'regime' changes and resulting reprisals through the 17th century. There is a genealogy television show on Public Broadcasting usually featuring well known people - television people, actors, sporting figures etc. It is hosted by a Harvard Professor with a personal interest in African American history. Names of European immigrants were frequently changed (and not just Anglicized) on entering the US and then often subsequently changed again. It is of course very difficult to trace African American people beyond 1865. They frequently assumed the last names of their former owners, and often their DNA as well. (On average, African Americans have about 25% European DNA.) Antebellum slaves were usually not recorded by name, but slave schedules had ages and genders listed in decennial censes and sometimes intelligent guesses can be made. As the DNA genealogical database grows, much is technically possible in genealogy that was unknowable even a few years ago. Recently the television show has relied increasingly on DNA for identification (not just historical, regional admixtures). 1
