RMweb Premium Popular Post BR60103 Posted January 28, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 28, 2022 Mail today was 2 issues of Railway Modeller -- December and January. December looked as if it had been through the mill. (or processed by Polybear's friend). There is a major protest by truck drivers here. They are driving to Ottawa to protest quarantine requirements for non-vaxxed drivers that cross the border. Some apparently started from the west coast. They seem to think that they can persuade the Senate and the Governor-General to overthrow the Commons. We drove across the motorway and there was a gathering on the bridge to cheer them on, even flying the Jolly Roger. Much larger crowds elsewhere which the authorities were, unfortunately, trying to keep safe. Today's ratings seemed to go smoothly. Some of yesterday's were objected to. 2

Popular Post chrisf
I took Poorly Pal to a meeting last night. For reasons best known to himself, he left the car door open when we stopped at the cash point and sought to open it while the parking manoeuvre was still taking place. Oh dear. Meanwhile, the latest on the ruptured friendship is that we appear to have dumped each other. It was not the outcome that I sought but may turn out to be best in the long run. I have been sent an old photo that I would like to share with y'all. It depicts my class in 1960/61. Spot the Chris ... Chris 17

The original brand of ibuprofen was called ‘Brufen’ and they were pink. Subsequently generic versions were pink to look like the original. BTW pink/red is a good colour for painkillers, psychologically speaking. As a veteran of the degenerative disease wars (two knees lost to arthrosis) I can safely attest that ibuprofen does absolutely naff all for me. I now take diclofenac PRN which does help a bit (and I have some tramadol set aside for when I absolutely have to have something with a bit of oomph) 3 hours ago, Darlington_Shed said: …..Many thanks to those who extended a welcome to a new poster … Welcome to the family! Like all families we have our occasional disagreements but generally we get along fairly well (and like all families we have an eccentric uncle or two and a weird cousin no-one talks about). 3 hours ago, Darlington_Shed said: ….I'll be on my best behaviour…. And with an attitude like that, you’ll stand out like a sore thumb! In other news: reconstruction of the formerly illegally annexed modelleisenbahnzimmerland proceeds apace - a whole bunch of stuff has been taken for recycling and in parts of the liberated homeland you can now see the floor! Once the debris and detritus of the battle for the workshop has been removed, recycled or re-used, shelving and storage will be reorganised, re-sited, upgraded and expanded. Hopefully, the modelleisenbahnzimmerland will be ready to run its first train service (4mm, GWR) before next winter sets in. On a more serious note: Lucy’s test results have come back - haematology is all normal; renal, hepatic and metabolic parameters are WNL and all we are waiting for are the results of the specialised tests for pancreatic function, So apart from the pancreatitis she is an otherwise healthy (and happy) little dog. Lucy has started to eat again (phew) but in small amounts, but as she is now taking treats I’m making sure that she gets plenty of high calorie snacks. At a rough guess I would say that Lucy’s future will be fairly normal - albeit on a low fat diet - with the occasional episode of pancreatitis (which may well be infrequent on a suitable diet and medication treatment regimen) managed as and when it flares up. Not optimal, but I think the best way of managing this condition. Enjoy POETS day (although for me it’ll be more of a POTS day) Edited January 28, 2022 by iL Dottore Text change 5
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted January 28, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 28, 2022 Good moaning. It's probably chilly outside but I haven't looked yet. I must have felt very energetic yesterday as I managed 3 tip runs with the bbig trailer mainly full of garden rubbish. A few muscles ache a bit but that's notva problem. After thevlast run, I carried on a few miles to Matha to buyanother 1000l bulk water tank. I also bought some guttering. This is my next irrigation project for the tomatoes and other things that Beth grows un front of the shed. It does serve a secondary purpose as there is no gutter on the side of the shed where the door is. I'm fed up of getting dripped on whilst locking or unlocking the door. Why not kill two birds with one stone. I just need to find out how much fall to put on 10m of gutter. I even had a successful hour in the shed getting LED's to work when switches were moved. Today has been declared a non work day. A run out has been planned. Furst stop M Balluet's distillery for essential supplies, then either a meal out at a nearby restaurant called Marmite or another visit to Gateaux. Guess what we would sample there. Not a bad prospect. Regards to all. Jamie 17 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted January 28, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 28, 2022 (edited) Morning world, and rock. The said rock is dry (bike club day - yay!) and 6 of those cent-divisions. Promise of 9 later. Good news about Lucy, iD. The club is going all the way to Ballasalla this morning, to kick tyres in the bike shop there, and then brunch in a greasy spoon next to it. I doubt the fare will be up the iD's standards - I'll be lucky if it's up to mine! I can't spot the Chris, there are several candidates. My old school photos are similar in appearance, but cringeworthy - NHN prefers not to share them! Take care out there. RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted January 28, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 28, 2022 For Jamie, 3mm in every meter, so a huge 30mm over your 10M. Yep I've now got two facia boards needing replacement, so the gutters have to come off and I'd already looked that one up.. Mooring Awl Inner Temple Hare, 5.5 hours plus 0.5 hour plus 1.5 hours a good total which I really needed. I've been out frosty, chilly, clear skies. As Ben the get orf moi land Collie hurtled down the garden scattering bunnies... I can confirm my little pink pills are ibuprofen, I did mention that many moons ago. I use the poundland variety, 3 packs of 16 for a certain amount. I'm lucky as they still are effective for me. SWMBO is long past their use, and is a varying amount of prescription pills. My Achilles is playing up this morning, so I might try some externally applied ibuprofen, which also comes in a red tube.. Only one of my 5 schools, did photographs, the second primary which did individual, class and school pictures. There were only 4 class rooms so say 120 pupils at that school. As for the photos they'll be in my parents albums which I haven't seen in over 40 years.. I was looking at Fraggle rock yesterday. A photo of sailing on West Baldwin reservoir ( Injebreck) . A submission in a "where in the world" running competition on a sailing forum, the winner puts up the next picture... Of playing Trying to get level right, I've bought a cheap laser level to try to get the masking tape, in the right place on the hull. As the boat is built with no sheer , I.E. the decks are level fore and aft. I'm making a board to hold at the deck edge and at the bottom 21 inches below the deck there will be the laser pointing to the hull as it curves.. The laser arrived with two new lights for the kitchen Amazon excelled themselves with excess packaging, two boxes, the small box with the laser and 9 inch square 2inch thick light. Was ok. The 2ft square 2inch thick light was in a box 4ft by 3ft, and 6 inches thick!!! I see the curtains have just lit up so the great fried egg has made an appearance Time to.. go fry a somewhat smaller egg.. 14 1

RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted January 28, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 28, 2022 Q, we have an archery course just up past Injebreck, but it's too rough for us oldies really - it took three days to recover last time we shot there, so it's an occasional treat. It's a really nice part of the island. Not a very big reservoir to sail on, but we're not a very big place! 11 1
RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted January 28, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 28, 2022 Good morning all, Early frost has all but disappeared, there is some blue sky and a glimmer of sunshine. Quite cool at 2°C but a fine and dry day is forecast. Late up today as I was feeling tired and lazy as was The Boss who insisted on waiting for me to get up and make the tea. Today we'll be going for a walk after breakfast and calling into Asda on the way back. After that my somewhat limited muddling "skills" have been requested. The Boss has produced her favourite garden ornament ( a small Buddha) in the hope that I can repair it. It has been attacked by frost and several bits have fallen off. I think a miracle is needed to put it right or maybe Kirsten from The Repair Shop but I'll see what I can do. Friday of course means rugby starting tonight with Bath v Quins. That's me sorted then. Have a good one, Bob. 3
RMweb Premium NGT6 1315 Posted January 28, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 28, 2022 Now on my break, thankfully! The one upside to this shi(f)t is that I should be home shortly after 1 pm and that I’ll then have the weekend off. I took a trip to the home supply shop yesterday and obtained a few plants and some bits and bobs. The plants being mainly intended to improve indoor climate, though the verdict‘s yet to be passed on whether they’ll be effective. Still debating what to cook for dinner. I’m long overdue on chili con carne, come to think of it. Weekend‘s predicted to be wet, so I’ll not be venturing outside much, I guess. 16
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted January 28, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 28, 2022 Good morning everyone Slightly dull here, 3C at the moment but it looks like it may brighten up later. I shall shortly head off to the butchers for the weekly meat rations and hopefully a pork pie for dinner. Then I’m off to the Trafford for a few more bits and pieces. There are no firm plans for the afternoon, but that could change at any time. Stay safe, back later. Brian.
Popular Post tigerburnie
Morning, still doing a Clarence the cross eyed Lion impersonation, can't see any improvement yet, been told it could be months, oh joy, I turned the car round just to move the spot where it sits on the tyres, I could actually see fine, so will see how it goes as prescription will need collecting in a week or so. We had a lovely walk to the beach yesterday, damn good medicine sitting on a beach, about two and a half miles round trip with a sit down in the middle was just what this doctor ordered. Take care all, sorry not read any posts, reducing the amount of time spent on the computer. 2
The Lurker
Greetings all from a Sidcup that does seem to be experiencing a little sun in and amongst the clouds. Someone has stuck a meeting in for 12.30 today - ) should be glad as the alternative was 5 o'clock. On a Friday! I mean, who? The downside is that I have to break off work to take the car over to Bexley for Mrs Lurker to use in the afternoon - and I normally do that around midday . It's about a 40 /45 minute walk back (around 3 miles) so I will have to do it fairly shortly. I daren't leave it until after the call because the last one lasted well over 2 hours and she needs the car at 2.30. So I had best do a little more work before I slope off. Hang in there Tigerburnie. And supportive thoughts to BoD too. 1

RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted January 28, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 28, 2022 A walk has been er walked but only a mile and a half today as The Hip was protesting and The Boss was in a hurry to get home to do something called "Housework." I do not understand this strange word but it sounds nasty so I'm keeping out of her way. Coffee time now and then I'm going to inspect the broken thing she has put in the conservatory for repair. I have a feeling it will have to be a bit of a bodge job but I will do my best. 16
RMweb Gold Popular Post PupCam Posted January 28, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 28, 2022 Morning All! I feel I have truly joined the Early Risers now! Haven't been sleeping well lately and last night was a bit of a record I woke every 30-40 minutes. I think it's a combination of the Cold I have inherited from Mrs Puppers (Phew -ve LFT again) and my new medication. I'd planned to go for the the first blood tests following the medication change but I'm not up to it today so looks like a job for Monday. Disappointed that I had to cancel my attendance at the mates Pie and Pint night down the local last night but I did manage to spend a short time outside in the early evening sky gawping. The Pleiades are amazing. Barely detectable with the naked eye (at least my naked eye) you're better off sneaking up on them using your more sensitive peripheral vision. But, WOW! when you finally find them in the telescope they are like a box of sparkly gems. A minor first last night was I actually managed to find and focus on them with the camera body attached - hitherto all I could see on the camera screen was blackness. Whilst the photographs are all a bit fuzzy mostly due to the combination of long exposure and the slight breeze that was nudging the scope it's definitely another step forward Alan 20

simontaylor484
Afternoon all Been out this morning towards @Erichill16s part of the world. Yes i have been to the centre of the known Universe. Well the antiques centre at Elsecar I was hoping to get some more Uranium glass but it was a bit too pricey for me. I was picking it up regularly up to £10 pre pandemic more usually in charity shops for a couple of quid. I do wonder if spy satellites will pick up on the concentration of uranium in my display cabinets I know it won't be much but it would be amusing. Special thoughts to Those awaiting test results and other procedures. @TheQ beat me to answering Jamie's question on gutter fall its only 2-3mm per m or a couple of 16ths per yard in old money. With diy I learnt by helping my Grandad who used imperial at home and a combination at work. So i tended to use imperial but now I am passing the wisdom on to my kids I use metric. I have just spent the last 20 minutes trying to work out on this bl00dy too clever for itself Bosch washing machine a short hot wash to put a dose of machine cleaner through it. 11 1 1

Popular Post Grizz
Afternoon all. The last few days have been extremely blustery up here on the East Coast of Nordjylland. This afternoon it has finally died down, so I have allowed myself a break from work for a gentle walk along the beach. The Kattegat was decidedly calm considering how rough the weather had been. Well back to tree felling and clearing….
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted January 28, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 28, 2022 Back from our ride - pah! We got about 5 miles and it started mizzling a bit - no problem, we're big boys. Then a spit and spot of rain, no problem we're.....etc. Then a deluge - past the point where it was worth turning around! Rained all the way to Castletown (Ballasalla was abandoned for new breakfast venue) then we tried brunch at The Garrison by the eponymous castle. It was very good, free refill of coffee too, possibly the best Full Manx we have had. Then it rained nearly all the way home, bar the last 5 miles when it was sunny! Well the north of the island does have very different weather to the rest of the rock, it was plain to see this today. Bike is minging, off to wash it now. 2
