The Lurker
Greetings all from a grey but dry Sidcup. Mrs Lurker has gone into school today - still testing negative despite Elder Lurker's positive test. Younger Lurker goes in to school but only for a covid test - then he comes back in. He starts school properly tomorrow. I am not working today but retreated to the office to catch up on RMweb and to later do my tax return.... Most of our decs came down yesterday although Mrs Lurker decreed that we should leave one set of lights up. And now it is pretty soon going to be time to take Younger Lurker to school. Have a good day all! 15

simontaylor484
Morning all An early check in from me I have just done the first school run of the year with a return load to the tip. I still think like a transport manager. The car needed de icing this morning it was raindrops frozen solid. Although on the school run we passed some cars with a dusting of snow. Just catching up with the news this morning and came across this blood boiler, I have no problem with the freedom of expression but this really winds me up https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-59853848 11

RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted January 4, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 4, 2022 1 hour ago, TheQ said: is that to make the pizza bases? Now Q could really be onto something there....perhaps a sub-base would work? Bear is thinking of a Pizza Base spread with Tomato Puree, then a layer of chips (partially pre-cooked I think, and laid side by side etc.), followed by another spread of puree (the usual chopped tommys would make for soggy chips methinks) and then mozzarella. A few circles of sliced tomato on top, a little Stilton and Chilli Oil, some smoked ham. Who's in - it could be a sensation. At this point iD gives up all hope..... In other news..... Bear's 2nd Rant of 2022: Bear gets up early to hit TP for a bag of ready mixed at opening time (0730). And what do I find? Some Ar5ebadger in a white van parked across my drive . No sign of him, and no number on the van - only a company name. So back indoors to Google the company for a phone number - the Head Office was perhaps forty miles away and it was 0735 so hopes of getting an answer weren't great, but amazingly I did. I managed to sound polite yet with that "Bear is p!ssed off" tone; fortunately I got someone very helpful and after giving the van registration she promised to try and contact the driver - who turned up in about 5 minutes and was suitably apologetic; the van was shifted and Bear went on his way. Time lost: twenty minutes The contractors will be working nearby for perhaps several weeks, so a repeat performance is quite possible. At least I know how to get 'em shifted if needed. And now? Well it's just started p!ssing with rain, so any thoughts of mixing mortar have just gone out the window. Turdycurses. And Mr. Metoffice predicts it to be that way all morning, so double Turdycurses. Plan 2 is now in force. If only I knew what Plan 2 is....

RMweb Gold PupCam Posted January 4, 2022 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 4, 2022 (edited) Morning All! It's soggy in Puppershire this morning. I'm awaiting the arrival of my grandson which can only mean one thing; Brio playtime Also, I have an interesting technical challenge with regard to video manipulation to look forward to today - should be fun! The trouble is I get so engrossed in such challenges to get enough knowledge at the time to do a job but, as in this case, then don't use the newly acquired skills for a couple of years by which time I've forgotten mostly everything and the tools and techniques have moved on! Anyway, it will be good getting back into it and might even provoke some more work on my old telecine machine. Whoops, just remembered, I've nicked it's camera module to put on my telescope How boring life would be without the opportunity of "doing lots of technical" !! By the way, I was searching for Beeza crankcase options yesterday. They seem to be pretty thin on the ground. I think it might be a case of watching Ebay very patiently for a good long while .... 1 hour ago, polybear said: It's not very clear (to this Bear, at least) if she showed the film after receiving the suspended sentence. But when such blatant nonsense is peddled and peddled repeatedly then I think there's no free speech WITHOUT responsibility and such demented dimwits (my own "opinion" offered freely, other opinions are available) should be made to pay for the damage to wider society that their free speech causes. Of course, politicians might need to be exempted .... Alan Edited January 4, 2022 by PupCam 9

Besides, I have a horrible feeling that of many ERs you could say "you can dress 'em up, but you can't take 'em out" Anyway, how would I get £30K without breaking into my nineteenth favourite antique porcelain piggy bank???? (and to answer the @polybear- Yes, the triple cooked chips are bloody good!). Whilst on the subject of food - may I offer some food for thought (see what I did there?): the future may not be meat free as many fear (and some want): there are few biotech companies in the US and elsewhere who have managed to grow meat in vats (as yet this is not commercially viable) add to that the fact 3D food printers are getting even more sophisticated then in the future most people may very well get their meat as a 3D printed construct from cloned muscle (meat) cells. Given that most people tend to buy their meat as prepackaged food "items" as opposed to going to a butcher and having him cut a piece off an animal carcass in front of their eyes, provided that texture, taste and price is OK - I suspect few would care. I can think of distinct advantages : far too many people want prime cuts (beef filet, chops, chicken breasts, etc) which leads to battery farming and terrible food-animal welfare, with 3D printing of meat people will be able to have as many prime cuts as they wish, with no need to battery farm. As the acceptance of 3D printed meat increases (and I think that it would due to price and convenience) food animal stocks would decrease until - at the end - there will just be a few herds of sheep and cattle and a few droves of pigs who will feed (so to speak) a high end market for "real" meat from cosseted high-animal welfare food-animals (even if a "real" 8oz pork chop will cost £250 - there will be those willing to pay such sums). This could very much be a "win-win" scenario for both humans and animals... ...unless the anti-science and progress Luddites get a bear in their bonnet about cultured meat... 7 3

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted January 4, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 4, 2022 Well my cynicism was misplaced, and my cancelled then re-instated MRI did indeed take place this morning, and thus I am suitably resonated. It seemed to be a less noisy device than the last time I had such a thing, 10 years ago. The staff seemed to be chosen for appearance...... Now an anxious wait to see the main man on Tuesday next. The rock itself is bright but chilly today, 3c down here, 0c up on the mountain road where there was the odd patch of slush and of course.....an upside down hatchback car. De rigueur in these parts upon sight of a snowflake (the frozen water type). Some things never change. Now for the culinary delight of lunch, bacon sarnie in a brioche bun, posh nosh version of bread, no cement. 12 1

While this avoided 4.5 hours of drilling into external walls next door (he is using a blunt drill and a fairly old black and Decker drill) it does my knee no good at all. Books have been received using the waterstones tokens I got for Christmas. Then.....herself did her shopping ... She said she would buy me breakfast... a cup of coffee and a biscuit.. call that breakfast?? Sun is shining but it is very cold here today. Glad to see @Robertcalling by.
