RMweb Premium Popular Post BR60103 Posted January 1, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 1, 2022 It's near 23:00 here. SWMBO went to bed 2 hours ago, but just got up. My New Year's Eve programme has been replaced by a countdown of the 500 favourite classical pieces and we're now into the Beethoven symphonies (mostly). There were some fireworks but they're gone. The Order of Canada was announced a couple of days ago. One or two names that I recognised. I didn't know the ones that live in town. The daughter of old friends was Head of Honours for Canada for a few years. I asked her about getting an hereditary peerage for my father but she said that was outside her purview and there would be awkward hoops to jump through. Happy New Year to those who observe it. 20
Popular Post iL Dottore
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL. I wish all my sparring partners on ER the very best for 2022: health, happiness, and rewarding friendships. iD (and, if they so desire, disgustingly large amounts of money) p.s. A late night last night, not because of any celebratory reasons but because of the fireworks: neither Lucy or Schotty tolerate them too well. So time was spent soothing the dogs…. Popular Post chrisf
Good morning to one and all and a Happy New Year from, for once, a not so early riser. If events had taken their proper course I would have greeted the New Year in Lausanne amid much festivity. Watching the TV coverage of the fireworks in London had to suffice. However we got there, we are in 2022 now and there is no going back. 2021 was not the best of years but for me an improvement on 2020. Before the bongs I had a sneaky peek at the Honours List, in the Daily Mirror website of all places. There will have been much that I did not spot. Among other entries I welcome the citation of Tom Daley for services to LGBTQ rights as well as to diving. It is good to see the recognition of William Roache and June Brown, both long serving soap actors of high renown. It took long enough for Tony Blair to be knighted after serving as Prime Minister but most will applaud the knighting of Chris Whitty and Jonathan Van Tam for their work on combatting Covid. What would I like to see in 2022? Some overseas travel that is not disrupted by events would be a good start. I have a week in Mallorca booked in April. Like everything else it is vulnerable and a lot can happen in four months. Nearer to home it would be nice if not quite so many shows were to be cancelled but in that respect the year has not got off to a good start. It would also be nice if one friendship in particular were more robust than it is turning out to be but such is the stuff of dreams. Popular Post Ozexpatriate
The clock has now struck twelve in my part of the world, bringing 2022 with it. Happy New Year to you all and may 2022 be kinder than 2021. There were sporadic fireworks through the late evening and more in the last few minutes, but not a lot, all considered. (It's cold outside - around -4°C.) I'm ready for bed - I'm not that big a fan of the New Year's Eve countdown shows. 6 4
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted January 1, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 1, 2022 Ey up! It was like El Alamein here last night/earlier this morning. Continuous "Rolling Thunder". We saw the New Year in with a glass or two of English Sparkling Wine. Excellent stuff but it is easier to find Rocking Horse droppings than a replacement Bottle. A very late start for me, and I have lots to do apparently.. Have a great 2022! Stay safe! Baz 14 6
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted January 1, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 1, 2022 Mooring Awl, inner temple Hare, 4 hours plus 3 hours sleep so good for me. I heard nothing of what may have happened last night, but Ben's reluctance to go out suggests some thing did, he's been very cuddly this morning and is asleep touching my legs at the moment. Coming downstairs, right Achilles was painful and stiff, so weight was transferred to the left leg, so that knee didn't like that at all.. As for awards, I believe highly paid sports or business people who don't do charity work, or some benefit to society shouldn't get awards . The most obvious stupidity is Raducanu's gong this time for winning one tournament. Forty years rain, hail and snow being a lollipop lady for peanuts is something different. I see my sister's boss got his knighthood, his predecessor who went off to her second home during full lockdown, has another reason to regret her stupidity.. Shortly I shall go out to start yesterday's work on the boat. But first a muggacoffee.. Time to sup.. 1 3 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted January 1, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 1, 2022 (edited) Good morning all and a Happy New Year, Very breezy here but we have some blue sky and sunshine. Mild again at 13°C and there's the chance of some light rain later this afternoon. I was about to say that we had a quiet night in but outside was a different matter. It was worse than November 5th with people going bonkers with whizz bang carp and they were still letting them off at 2.30am! The Boss wasn't feeling too well anyway so went to bed about 10.30. I stayed up until 1.00am watching a film and supping a cognac or three. Today will be a quiet one so I may possibly amble down to The Shed again for an hour or two. I've also got to move the new bird feeder as The Boss is not happy with the mess being made at its current site. I won't say I told her so! After lunch there are a couple of rugby matches on TV so that's my day near enough sorted. Have a good one, Bob. P.S. The only resolution I make is not to make any as I never keep to them anyway! RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted January 1, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 1, 2022 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Spent so much time watching Jonathan Creek and Murder They Hope last night that after checking Farcebook I didn't get to bed until well past two when I went out like a light. So did Si Attica and there's no sign of him coming back at the moment thankfully. Muggatee time, be back later. 18

I seem to have maintained the same weight now for at least 30 years without really trying. I would be quite happy living off fried breakfasts and takeaway meals with the occasional muggercoffy and pain-au-raisin thrown in. By “occasional” I mean on the occasions of 11am and 3pm daily. Other cakes are available. The new year has produced a newly-polished shiny thing in the blue layer. Outside is uncommonly balmy for the time of year. Today will go on record as being the hottest of the year so far. A rough night was had as the neighbours upstairs were partying hard and loud until almost 4am. I’ll mention it to them when I next see them. They also kept next door’s kids (18 months and 3 years) awake with the noise and therefore also their parents. I’ll creep around slowly for now. I am overdue for the first muggercoffy of the year. 6
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted January 1, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 1, 2022 Morning, just, from a rock where we wish all a Happy New Year. Only one big firework bang here at midnight, probably the c*ck on the corner in his usual style. Took us ages to get back to sleep though, but then up at 5am to investigate a loud banging and crashing, as it had gotten very windy indeed. Couldn't find anything, TV aerial clinking a bit but that wasn't it. Up again half an hour later as it was going nuts, with torch this time, and found it to be the door for the electricity meter cupboard, one of those plastic things in the wall - the same wall as our bedroom! Grrr. So a bit of a lye in but absolutely kernackered now. Sunny and bright out but still blowing a hoolie. Missed the local dip (to watch, not participate) we usually go to, fund raiser for the RNLI. Oops. Now to find lunch.... 1
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted January 1, 2022 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 1, 2022 (edited) Good morning everyone Well the fireworks finally stopped just after 1 o’clock this morning, there then followed a good nights sleep, which was much needed here. As for the rest of the day, there isn’t too much planned, we’ve already spoken to all the kids, so it’s just a case of sit back and relax until I do dinner in a couple of hours. So, once again, I shall wish you all a happy new year. Back later. Edited January 1, 2022 by BSW01 17 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post PupCam Posted January 1, 2022 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 1, 2022 (edited) Happy New Year to you all! I received an invitation from my mate to go for a ride out to the Stony Stratford New Year's Classic meet. Seemed like an excellent idea but when I woke this morning I had second thoughts as I've not been very far recently on the bike and, did I really want to mingle with loads of people just at the moment? Well the answer was no so I bailed out and so Mrs Puppers and I are going for a walk instead. I'll save the longer bike rides for another day. Anyway, best wishes to ALL who are struggling mentally or physically (or both!) at the moment, let's hope the coming year is better than the last two. RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted January 1, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 1, 2022 Due to the medication I had ad part of my clinical trial I lost 5kg. Put a little bit back on but still lighter than I have been since 1981. This has meant buying a whole pile of new clothes..especially trousers as size 36 is a lot smaller than size 42... Popular Post Coombe Barton
A brief crackle around midnight was all that I heard. Our village of 2000 people has been getting less and less fireworky (is that a word) over the past few years. But then I couldn't get to sleep. Mild today. Is climate change responsible? Probably. Perturbations of the jet stream, probably. And domestically, see if I can shift some more of the carp so that I can demolish some more shelves, plaster, pain, resolve, and get some of the books I've boxed out of the boxes and can move again. However there is then the problem of what to do with the empties. They're really useful boxes of then stacking, not interleaving variety. Ned those because I can pile them high. They occupy just as much space, but are definitely lighter. Not due for face to face teaching until 24th January, but working from home again from Tuesday. Got plenty to do, marking and preparing stuff for the coming semester, so the bum will still be on the sofa. And happy birthday to all horses.

RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted January 1, 2022 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 1, 2022 And from me a happy new year to all. A very late start today as I have been having a lot of trouble sleeping, largely due to the black dog having recently got out so the GP gave me some happy pills, which also have a sleep improving effect. Hence, although I didn't actuially get to sleep until well into the early hours, once I did it would have taken more than a few fireworks to wake me up. As it was that only happened when Jill presented me with the first muggocoffee of 2022 which I groggily drank at ten o'clock before determining to start grabbing 2022 by the throat, or at least giving it a bit of a nudge. With luck I'll start bullying it into submission soon along with getting rid of some of the pandemic pounds I've put on and getting back to work on the layout, which hasn't progressed for a month or more. New Year's resolutions? No, I don't do them as I am told that they never last long. Instead I just determine on courses of action starting on January 1st.
