RMweb Premium TheQ Posted December 29, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 29, 2021 Just back from Ben taking me for a long walk.. The fields are exceedingly soggy, tractor ruts are full of water and the lanes are very muddy. Met a second homers couple out walking, very soggy they were.. At the time me and Ben were dry, however half way round light rain arrived accompanied by strong gusts of wind. Consideration is being given to a shark or equivalent, SWMBO finds the big Vax heavy to use and it's a pain laying out the cable and putting it away, there aren't too many sockets in a house of this age.. Another consideration is rebuilding the under stairs cupboard, I intend to punch through the wall from an existing socket anyway, extending that to put in a socket for charging the vacuum would be easy. Just the tall end would remain cleaning equipment storage, the rest would be slide out units, for SWMBO's shoes and my boots, with a facing of book shelves. Dinner is about to arrive, sausage, baked spuds and veg.. 17

Wednesday Greetings to one and all. A wet and blustery day Upon the Hill of Strawberries and a boring one at the House of Fun where there were very few folk about. You know you are getting old(er) when your Christmas present arrives from DPD (still a chap in a red suit though ) and is a Shark vacuum cleaner In fairness the old Duronic has of late failed to live up to its description of "cleaner" and required replacement. It just happened to coincide with the gift-giving season. So Shark arrived in the past hour, has been assembled and has made significant inroads into the "accumulation of dust and dirt over the festive period". It's much heavier and larger than the model it replaces. I don't yet know if it will even fit in the cupboard! As they say in the movies "Vacuum-cleaning sucks" . simontaylor484
We are having a day off from doing jobs today. We took Swmbo to the chemists and then Tescos for fresh stuff then set about the fridge to eat stuff coming up to the best before date washed down by a bottle of alcohol free San Miguel. I am now ensconced in the chair with the Viz annual 16

Apparently one item is in short supply. You and me both, Bob, you and me both - the tablet which I have been prescribed (and which is so contra indicated with alcohol) is just about unavailable in the format which the Dr prescribed, which is 50mg capsules. I was prescribed 56 well before Christmas, and they only had 44 - made up of three different brands - and the usual "owing" note for the other 12. Rant begins I went into the pharmacy three times just before the festive season, and each time was told "still not available" - then over Christmas, I got a text which was dated 22nd - but as I have been watching my texts, I know it didn't arrive then - saying the balance of my prescription was in - so I collected it today at the first opportunity, and the packaging was actually dated 21st December - so WHY THE H&LL did they keep telling me it was still unavailable on 22nd, 23rd, and Christmas Eve - and this lot is tablets, not capsules, but is the same drug and the same strength. I must admit that I didn't moan a lot, but since the pharmacy was taken over by B**ts, we have had about eight managers, and God knows how many pharmacists - the last permanent one left (she was very good as well as very easy on the eye) to go and join our GP practice as a pharmacist practitioner but it's the only one close to the GP surgery, and the only one in town, I do know from speaking to the staff who used to work there when it was independent, that B**ts only use ONE supplier - Alliance, which (surprise) is owned by B**ts, so if your item is out of stock with Alliance, you're stuffed. The independent pharmacist had accounts with ALL the major suppliers, so was not caught out that often. Rant over. Afternoon All Well MORE sales yesterday - Boots, Marks and Spencer, and Accessorise to name but three - some taking back, and some more buying - and then today was the day of reckoning, as we had to check the credit card account - OUCH. Fodder run completed, yesterday morning, and a serves six two bird roast with all sorts of stuffing in it was bought from the "last knockings" freezer in Lidl. Down from £9.99 to £3.99, and it fed two, plus the dog, plus a little over for cold - and it was utterly delicious. Oddly, as Lidl actually show ther sources and suppliers for most fish and meat, we found that the address of the supplier was Ketteringham Hall in Norfolk - we lived in the gatehouse to Ketteringham Hall, for just under a year - strange little coincidence - I know the item was not actually produced there, it's just their HO, but strange nonetheless. Due to sales, and also being back to work days for the people working on our house move, I have not managed to keep up, and quite a few pages have been skipped. However, I hope all are still well, and as usual proffer the obligatory generic greetings. Regards to All Stewart

Ian Abel
HUMP day, though not actually. Friday being the holiday we get for January 1st. falling on the weekend! Yesterday, as expected. Little work, moderate snow and mixed ice falling, fortunately abated by the time we took the grand-nieces for the Zoo illuminations drive. Then a nice dinner with them afterwards and back home in time to hunker down as the temperature fell... Also, continued the "struggle" with the Mrs new laptop - next up was/is Microsnot Office - what a flustercuck THAT is with a new version! Today, watching the temperature continue to drop and we're off to our annual (expect LAST year for obvious reasons) December viewing of; British Arrow Awards - 2021 something we've done for several years now, with our friends. I know I've mentioned it before but seems it's unknown to many. Essentially the "best" of the mostly-British Advertising from the past year. Our local art museum always show this event in December. After the viewing we'll have a nice dinner at a British-themed pub-like restaurant "George and the Dragon". First thing, froze my nuts off getting the newspaper, -22C and sunny (NOT that it made any difference!!!), will manage a heady -13 for the high later Carry on. 5

Much aching in the back today, must have slept in an awkward position because I haven't done anything else to aggravate it. Will have to try moving around a bit to loosen things up. Managed to catch up on rugby highlights yesterday and there was a good result for my team. The Boss is muttering about dust etc so like Baz I may have to drive The Shark for a while. I suspect any protestations about bad backs will fall on deaf ears. A couple of parcels are supposed to be arriving today including one from the pharmacy which is overdue. Apparently one item is in short supply. Still haven't visited The Shed lately, maybe today. Have a good one, Bob. I've told our Shark it can have Christmas and New Year off for good behaviour. 2 17
Sir TophamHatt
A bit late for the morning but it's morning somewhere in the world! Just having a mosey around at houses. Went to a friend's wedding today in Lichfield. It seemed quite a nice town (okay, city!) but not sure it would benefit either of us (although it would make my commute down to 25 mins instead of 45). The thing that significantly puts me off is that there are plans to move me to another office, which would be 25 mins. If I lived in Lichfield, it would be 50 mins, so I guess that idea is out. Still nice to see what's about though.

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted December 29, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 29, 2021 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I considered moving when I retired. I had my eye on somewhere in or very near to Ipswich but I retired in 2008 just as the financial crisis began so I put it off until the crisis was over not expecting it to go on as long as it did. Now at 73 I don't want to move again. 1 2
simontaylor484
Our last move was builder assisted they bought our previous house as part exchange but it was still hassle and heartache. It took us ages to settle in here. Also a lot of houses on here are rented so we have a fairly high turnover of them some only stay for six months some for longer-term. We finally started putting our Mark on the house 3 years ago with a new kitchen we did consider a orangery type conservatory but we put it off then I had my second breakdown and my arthritis problems as well as the pandemic which put the brakes on things. Me and the youngest managed to replace the decking over the summer and having a mass clearout (2skips worth) we have started other jobs but faced further delays due to Swmbos poorliness first the seizures when we had to keep an eye on her then the hospitalization. I have a job to do on the car nut I could do with a dry non windy day I have the boot gas struts to replace the parts arrived from Germany before xmas

It is meant to have been sister cathedral to the original Coventry Cathedral so you get some scale of the damage caused by the Luftwaffe 9 3

RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted December 29, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 29, 2021 (edited) Evenin' each. Well I Sharked about a bit this morning and what's more I even emptied it. The Boss seems happy enough with my efforts so that's good. This afternoon I lazed in my armchair watching "A Bridge Too Far" and "The Glen Miller Story", both for the umpteenth time but I was feeling lazy....again. Was going to watch a rugby match tonight but it's been cancelled due to Covid & safety concerns. 1 hour ago, New Haven Neil said: I can't imagine moving again, last time was bad enough! I agree and we moved here in 1983! At the time I said to The Boss "I think it'll take us me about 5 years to get this place looking right and how we want it. Looking around the house today I said "I think it'll take us me about 5 years to get this place looking right and how we want it!" We did think about moving 3 years ago but decided it was too much hassle at our age. Not only that but most of our family and friends are nearby and we've got everything we need in the way of shops, public transport, medical facilities fairly close to hand. Popular Post Natalie
Just a short note to say hello and I am still alive although struggling mentally at times. Today is generally a good day although the usual stiffness and pain persists.. I hope everyone is well. I am in the process of catching up with what I have missed. Am currently on page 10416. I do know that Flavin's beloved Lucy has been unwell but is now recovered which is great news. I also hope that Bear has been able to acquire some of his much referred LDC. Will comment further once finally caught up. Love and good wishes to you all. 1 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted December 29, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 29, 2021 Seems that Sharking was a fairly common activity among ERs today. I didn't get round to emptying ours, though, so come tomorrow morning I may take a leaf from GDB's book of brownie points acquisition and sneak the hopper out to the bin before my failure is detected. We moved to our present abode twenty one years ago when I started my last tour in the RAF, which was a three year extension, at Cosford. The intention was to move on after my service finished and we had a chance to look around at leisure for somewhere to settle down, which nearly came off but after the sale of our house fell through four times in eighteen months after satisfactory surveys and taking it off the market (I kid you not), Jill had a sense of humour failure and said, "I've had enough, let's stay here and spend what it would have cost to move on getting this place sorted out." So that's what we did and after extensions, remodelling and, most importantly, building a railway room here we are. Admittedly, the cost has been more than simply moving would have entailed but at least it wasn't spent on estate agents, solicitors, removal firms and the like and North Hipposhire isn't that bad - even with Happy Hippos close by.
