Having had over a year of BLM matters introduced, they've now added "Green" "Climate Change" to all the programmes.. She want's escape from real life, not to be lectured on what's filling the rest of the TV schedules.. And especially as these topics are normally inserted into a program with all the subtlety of a crazed maniac on PCP wielding a sledgehammer. Doctor Who (a.k.a. the gormless time lady who screeches) is particularly bad. This endless, unsubtle, proselytising does nothing to benefit those good causes that become flavour of the month with the TV luvvies set. In fact it probably does more to turn people off than win them round to a way of thinking/supporting a cause. Where I would differ with your SWMBO @TheQ would be the description of British soap operas as being escapist. From what little I have watched of British soap operas, they all seem too terribly close to real life in Britain for escapism. EastEnders probably being the most notorious. Many, many years ago when EastEnders first got going (and was touted by the BBC as being the flagship of their drama department [sic!]). Somebody rather unkindly pointed out the difference between American soap operas and British soap operas was that the American soap operas focused on the rich, the luxurious, the clever and the powerful; whereas British soap operas focus on the poor, the ignorant, the powerless and the criminal! Quite frankly, in terms of escapism, if I had to watch that sort of thing: I would rather be enjoying (virtually) a glass of champagne at a luxurious reception whilst conniving to corner the oil market in Dallas than be glassed during a punch-up in the Queen Vic…. 11

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted November 8, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 8, 2021 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Popular Post simontaylor484
Afternoon all @polybear when I had decking delivered through Wickes it came via a courier firm that picked up the stuff from the Pontefract store even though they have 3 hiab trucks of their own. I took some stuff through for the Mrs this morning they would even let me see her for a bit which is a result although I had to wait til 1pm it was 1215 at the time I luckily had a sandwich with me so it was ok 16
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted November 8, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 8, 2021 I had a very jolly person ring me this morning to book another colonoscopy. Beginning of December this time. I normally have one every 2 or 3 years, the next one will be the third this year. I asked if it would be possible to not be a very early morning appointment as I had to travel in by train so got the same time as last week which was perfect. It will be a different consultant this time but one who has seen me plenty of times and actually did the procedure for me about 3 years ago. I don’t think there is anything particularly to worry about. They are being very thorough but other health conditions are adding complications to the procedure, hence the repeats. 6
Popular Post Sir TophamHatt
Afternoon everyone The start of another week meaning time to play catch up on what I've missed. Have a plan this week to sort through the model railway room and tidy what I can - it's been all of a junk yard for weeks now. Boiler man is coming on Wednesday, so hopefully we'll have heating by then! Have only just realised how cold the nights really have become. 5 1
Popular Post Ian Abel
Moanday... Survived the Saturday night/Sunday morning clock-time-rearrangement, such a pointless exercise <meh> Bob NOT IMPRESSED as he's not managed to tell time yet, other than his internal CLOCK. So come 4PM local time yesterday he was making extreme protestations about the fact that he apparently needed to wait another hour for his dinner - NOT a happy camper! I tried explaining the "miracle" of daylight savings vs. standard time and he essentially replied with much hissing and general wandering around his food dish with annoyed looks to everyone. So there's one more vote for leaving the bl00dy time alone. Not much else to report from the weekend, other than a fine evening around a fire pit with the neighbors. Large gathering and much revelry into the night. Today, work, and Jemma will return briefly (one day only) between trips, so will retrieve Whitney. The MRs is off to brunch with friends. 5 first thing, high of 13 expected with sun and some clouds. Downhill trend from here with +1 as the HIGH by Friday and over the weekend. Right, let's get the week started... <yawn>... <groan> Edited November 8, 2021 by Ian Abel Correction for typo :) 16

Ozexpatriate
After what has been daily rain (with some sunny spells) for days now, today was foggy early but followed by bright sunshine. Astronomical (and by the clock) noon approaches under bright blue skies. Rain is forecast overnight and for much of the forthcoming week. It looks pleasant enough to motivate me to get out of the house, but for now, I am sitting by the 'phone waiting for a call. One television station's online forecast shows a glyph for cloudy on Saturday and a mix of sun and showers on Sunday (incongruously along with a 60% chance of rain for Saturday but only 30% for Sunday). It matters little - I have no outdoor plans for the weekend and by then better estimates will be available. 8 1

Archery yesterday was 'good in parts', but all fell apart rather as the organisers applied a handicap system of their own making as there were two new members who came bearing several grand's worth of compound bows with all the fancy sights, balancers release ads etc (it's a barebow club!). This seemed to be a reasonable idea to allow them to compete, until it was applied to the scores at the end - where the compound bows (that are more powerful and accurate - especially with sights!) were given an advantage over barebow. Dissent in the ranks. The organisers couldn't see our point and to avoid an argument six of us just walked away. It appeared to me they were multiplying rather than dividing by the handicap factor but it wasn't the time or place in front of new members to have it out. The NFA would not have been impressed I'm sure, we just couldn't work out why they couldn't see giving such equipment another advantage wasn't right! These are world championship level folk.....most odd. Left a bad taste for sure. Sounds to this Bear like there should be separate classes for "haves" and "have nots" 11 hours ago, Dave Hunt said: However, now that 007 has finally been declared deceased, maybe that's the end of the matter (although I suppose that resurrecting the hero after being caught up in the middle of an exploding island is a small matter for the film makers). No - he's fine. He was in the shower all the time..... (You'd need to be of a certain age - and sad - to get that one) In other news: Bear has been doing leccies all day - and what a barsteward job it's been. Shoulder is giving me grief, despite hitting the pink pills all day; more will be downed at beddy-buys time (technically I shouldn't, cos' that'll be four doses in a day) and Ibuleve gel too (yeah yeah I know - should be one or the other, not both...). How on earth @PhilJ W manages to put up with his endless aches and pains.....respect, Sir As I've spent the vast majority of the day on my knees installing socket back-boxes in walls (still more to do ) it'll be a miracle if I don't wake up in the middle of the night with screaming cramp of some sort..... Bear has concluded that there's only so much DIY in the life of a Bear, and mine is rapidly running out (the DIY, that is - hopefully the other bit has a fair way to go yet....) As for excitement - Bear has had three visitors today - the Postielady (bringing a parcel containing oodles of whitemetal and brass.....), the Wickes Man (bringing that effin' b**stard evil spiteful stuff - a.k.a Expamet Mesh) and the Hermes Man (bringing a box full of clout nails). My cup runneth over.... Tomorrow? Well I ain't doin' leccies, that's for sure - this Bear's body is in need of a bit of self repair , aided by the consumption of oodles of cake . Besides, there's washing to be done . However...... Tomorrow sees Bear's Chrimbo Party Day!! Ok, not quite....instead of three of us meeting up at the Cafe there'll be four of us meeting up for lunch at a decent pub we know and love. Hopefully it'll be good, and as it's a daytime slot rather than the usual evening slot it should hopefully be a lot quieter and devoid of crowds. Time will tell. 16 1

Ozexpatriate
Having just come back from the mail box, one of the UK outline model railway suppliers apparently had a spot of trouble at the printers with their quarterly magazine. About 8 sheets (32 pages with a staple-fold) were omitted, with 8 sheets in the middle duplicated, so it had the right 'heft' and opened in the 'right place' in the middle where the staples are. On the relevant thread, it looks like it happened to a number of people, though not everyone. On the whole, a minor inconvenience. I trust they will 'make it right'. Anyone want some (not quite) centrefold pics of a miniature Double-Fairlie? 4
