Morning all from Estuary-Land. A lot cooler this morning and the TV is working as normal after a week of trying to scan. Its pretty obvious that its affected by the heat. Bad news is that the foxes have ripped open the black sack that I put out in the early hours and scattered the contents over the front garden, thats despite it being double wrapped. I cant get out to deal with it until later so fingers crossed that the bin men are late, there's no sign of the bin wagons dawn chorus yet so I might be lucky.

Nearly forgot. In answer to @polybear's question. The original flashing was not lead or a substitute but pre-formed plastic. The main roofing is fibreglass and is still watertight. The problem was that there was too much water for the gutters to handle.

It's lonely round here... There's just two of us.. all but 1  in the outer lab got Pinged last night.. That means for the next 10 days output from the factory is effectively zero.. I can't get pinged.. I don't have a smart phone.. and I'm in my own little lab most of the time..  There is of course just one code for the factory, so those in the other half of the building over 100 yards away will also have got pinged..

PS there is a factory wide Wifi system so anyone on those systems could have got pinged

They did get told by our umpire, that was why their team manager took them off and told them to cool it. The big problem is that the local county board still regards cricket as a gentlemanly game and doesn't use external umpires for junior competitions. They need dragging into the real world. It was a pity  as we haven't seen a lot of bad behaviour from the kids, nothing like football where teams are struggling for players because of it. 

We had just one incident involving parents from a visiting cricket team getting a bit heated. When we played there we anticipated a repeat so rounded up about 30 supporters. No problems that night. 

Wearing a high viz top and body camera can work wonders in such situations.

Good moaning from the boring borough. Office still nice and cool but the rest of the house..... So hot down stairs that 2 Hobbits came to the door and threw a ring at me. 

 

Another night of disrupted sleep. Even with the room cooled I just couldn't get comfy. I'll be mostly running in zombie mode today.

Worst Sainsbury’s delivery we’ve had since the pandemic began. 6 substitutions (2 rejected) and 4 things not available including my beer!  It just won’t do!  

It seems that the shortage of delivery drivers and shelf fillers due to being pinged is definitely causing problems but we won’t starve yet.  Now got to visit Asda to try and get the missing items.

The heat yesterday caused a problem with my car that has happened once before a few years ago. After being parked in the sun most of the day such that the bodywork on the offside was almost too hot to touch, the driver's seat belt was locked and couldn't be shifted; presumably something inside the mechanism had expanded and locked it. The only cure was to drive the car with the windows open for about fifteen minutes, at which stage it became possible to pull the belt out gradually in small steps. Eventually it freed up and has been OK since.

 

I'm appalled at the reports of underhanded and abusive behaviour among cricketers that have featured in ERs recently. If there was one corner of the English way of life that I always imagined to be eternally serene and pleasant it was the amateur game of cricket and to read that even that has been soiled by the sort of behaviour reported is distressing. What happened to sportsmanship?

Very few junior games (only county or national cup finals) get umpires who are qualified ones.

 

In the case of that game I would have removed the bails, taken the stumps with me and then spent time writing a short but accurate report of why I had done so. The manager and players would all be on at least a Level 1 offence ..

It just mirrors the professional game as with football. To my mind it started to get really bad with big money TV deals and agents hawking their clients to the highest bidder regardless of whether it was a good career move. I gave up serious football watching just after tthe Premier League started as I felt its spirit was being destroyed by those who just treated it as a commodity to be bought and sold with the hope of making money (very unlikely) or a personal vanity project funded by others. When I was a weekly attender at matches we knew many of the players personally. My sister ran a fan club for one of them.

It was much the same with cricket. One player who went on to become England captain had a flat just along the road from us.

Morning, cloudy, windy and 17 degrees, hot enough for me, a trip to Forfar is deemed vital(we shall see when we get there), then a countryside walk and possibly a cycle ride later, take care all and no fighting you sporting lot. My Grandson got disqualified in a swimming event by an over zealous parent who wanted his son to win, the father went for a swim and I was told not to attend again lol.

Visitor induced Covid reaching silly levels here, not sure what people expected.  Businesses screaming for borders to open, facebookers screaming to have them all shot and have a total lockdown.  How about just being careful and sensiblle?

 

Q's comments make a mockery of being pinged, it is an over the top reaction.  Like farcebook.   Seriously, pinging people who happened to be within a hundred yards is just stupid.

Abbie has just phoned and Nicki is OK but can’t sit up yet as it’s rather painful. She’s going to phone us later.

Went to Asda and got everything wanted……except my beer! 

Then went to Sainsbury’s (different one to the one our delivery came from) and got the last 2 packs off the shelf so  all is now well in my little world…..for now.

It is supposed to be within 2metres for at least 15 minutes with an infected person. If it is doing 100 yards something is wrong. I suspect that people being pinged here is that Covid rates are rising significantly. Thanks to the vaccine programme hopefully those with Covid are not so ill. I suspect the requirements to self isolate will change.

Hot and sunny in North Somerset. 

 

I am thoroughly sick of this. Outside it drops to 20C overnight and rises to 30C during the day. Inside it drops to 27C overnight and rises to 31C during the day, even with all the windows open and fans on. 

 

There is a fraction more wind outside today, and hopefully more cloud tomorrow, but I have no way of escaping from the constant heat. A stomach bug doesn't help, unless it is just another symptom of heat exhaustion. 

 

I could go to the sea, but the car would be like an oven; the roads will be jammed; the car parks will be full; and the beach is no place for someone with fair skin which burns after 15 minutes even with factor 50. 

 

Sorry. I will go and melt quietly in the corner.

Morning all.

Food supplies have arrived, no shortages just a couple of acceptable substitutions. 
I have hardly been anywhere for ages other than medical places but the venues with QR codes have been dutifully scanned into my phone. One was the garage where I took the car for its MoT and service last December and the other was at the RHS gardens. I didn’t see anyone else ever scan in though at the RHS gardens. Do you have to scan in at supermarkets? 
The other smartphone app used today was my “Test your kidney function at home app” that my GP asked me to do. The result is available very quickly and the results get transmitted to the GP. All very clever stuff. Clearly not written by the people who wrote the system Ian Abel has to use for his new employer. The test did confirm my last few kidney function blood test  results in that I am now back to being normal (or at least kidney function normal) after a few years of not being so.

It is pleasantly warm here with a slight breeze. Our neighbours have a swimming pool they put up in summer. From our garden the recirculating pump makes a noise like a fountain. Aditi said it reminds her of fountains in nice warm holiday locations. She likes fountains. She also likes seeing chickens running about but has to make do with pigeons this year.

Good grief - 29.9 c, yes in the shade, but in our admittedly sheltered garden.  Went out on the bike but it is too hot as i won't ride without protective gear on.  So to the car, with a/c, for the messages.
