Winslow Boy
Sorry to hear about the untimely passing. As someone has already said it never rains but pours. Let's just hope that where ever they are they are at peace. Take care everyone and make the most of your time as it is not who you are but who you share yourself with that is the most important. 11

Yeah, such events can really make one think about your own priorities in life, can’t they? There’s so little time we spend in this world in the grand scheme of things, so I guess that being able to look at yourself in the mirror when thinking about how you spend that time is what really matters… 2 3
Popular Post iL Dottore
Good morning once again, I have now expended 24 of the 60 hours I have been allotted for R&R. Yesterday evening was particularly pleasant: after dinner and after having spent an hour or two killing zombies on the PlayStation, I ended up on the patio in the company of a dusky beauty and a tumbler of single malt (for those of you who do not know Rudyard Kipling‘s poem The Betrothed, “dusky beauty” refers to a fine cigar. This poem also gave us the immortal line “And a woman is only a woman, but a good Cigar is a Smoke”). A pleasant hour was had listening to the rain, whilst safely under the awning, and contemplating the meaning of life, et cetera, et cetera, whilst partaking of a good Cuban cigar and a wee dram of Longmorn single malt. Sometimes the simple things in life are indeed the best. Another aspect of yesterday’s bachelor-style evening, was enjoying my post-prandial espresso whilst listening to a CD of BBC Radio 4’s I’m Sorry I haven’t a Clue. Although it was one of the later ones with Jack Dee, it still featured the old team of Barry Cryer, Tim Brooke-Taylor and Graeme Garden and was broadcast before the nervous nellies at the Beeb started Bowdlerising everything for fear of “offending” someone…. Even though it’s now a shadow of its former self, it’s still one of the Beebs best programmes and one Mrs iD just doesn’t “get”….. It’s a bit wet ‘round here as well. In fact we have a local flood warning in effect, fortunately we are a good 50m above the normal water level of our nearby river. Assuming that I will not have to start building an Ark in the garden today, I might toddle in to town tomorrow and buy myself that birthday present I’ve been promising myself. And on that pluvial note, I bid you an enjoyable Tuesday! iD 18
Popular Post tigerburnie
Morning all, well that was a weekend of two halves, one great the other not so. Our son came to stay and me and him went hill walking in Glen Shee and did a couple of easier Munroes as I've not been walking seriously for a couple of years and apparently I'm an old git that needs to take it easier. The following day we visited my daughter and her family and had a great day with them playing with the Grandsons. Later that evening elder Grandson was on fire and a covid test was positive, he's been at a sports camp all week and seemingly picked it up there. Test taken and the rest of us are all negative, the wee man is feeling ok after a couple of rough days and is now on the mend, we are all now in isolation for 10 days and not allowed out of the garden, some muddling may well take place along with a lot of the "G" word to keep me busy. Take care all. 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted July 13, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 13, 2021 I am so sorry to learn about Gordon passing away. As well as being a modeller whose work I admired he was also very supportive about my health and family issues. Tony 1 4 1
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 13, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 13, 2021 Very sorry to hear of Gordon's death though it wasn't entirely unexpected. Dom's news was terrible, a truly shocking thing to happen. At least the alleged perpetrator is in the hands of the police. 15 1

I hope that somewhere he is scoring holes-in-one and building the Eastwood Town of his dreams. Bear is really sad to hear this - like many others I'd really hoped Gordon would make it. Gone to the Great Steam Shed in the Sky, no doubt full of LNER & BR Std. Locos. None of that "foreign" rubbish..... RIP Buddy. 1 hour ago, NGT6 1315 said: Christ. Me too. There are some real B@stards in this world, thank goodness for the 99.999% that aren't. As has been said, everything else seems to be irrelevant in such times, so the best I can say is that I hope (maybe know) the storm will be weathered and tomorrow brings a new day. Unlikely to be back today, stay safe folks. 5 11 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted July 13, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 13, 2021 A double blow today, of Gordon's loss and Dom's simply awful news. My heart goes out to any and everyone involved. Something of a dampener on things to say the least, simply offering commiserations does not seem nearly enough. Sheesh. 1 17 1

It was a timber yard / made sheds etc. Not sure if that was the same company or not. It was right by the railway but it closed in the 90s and now has houses on it. A quick trawl on the web reveals that at one stage the borough council deemed it the most at risk in the area for asbestos contamination because of timber treatment, Different company to us although we did have several branches in Kent. 6 1

Popular Post The Lurker
I am glad to read that Tigerburnie's grandson is picking up and I hope that the rest of the family stay safe and well. Mrs Lurker is a few days into her second isolation period - only the rain has stopped her wearing a furrow in the lawn, pacing. She is at least able to provide her 1:1 with remote support and join the class google meets. They did show and tell yesterday and a number showed their Teddies (they're 7, 8). Mrs Lurker used that as an excuse to show the bear she had from about 9 days old. It's very chewed and has been very loved...! 17 1

It’s a grade 2 listed building, the largest in Europe according to Wikipedia. I did work on the main road by the flats when I worked for Allens and my first business was next to Kelvin flats between Hilsborough and Sheffield city centre. These were demolished in the mid 90s but I’d already sold the business and moved on. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Park_Hill,_Sheffield I did try to post a response to this last night but the post seems to have disappeared. As part of the Surveying module of my degree we had to survey South Street Park which is the grassy area that slopes down from Park Hill flats towards the tram lines above Midland station 11
