He flagged it up to Occy Health, who immediately summoned him. He came back some time later totally lost for words - he was expecting OH to tell him what support could be offered to the injured party & family, such as perhaps driving his wife down to the hospital at Pompey if necessary etc. etc. Nope, not a bit of it. Instead he was lectured for 20 minutes, being told what he could say/couldn't say/must do/mustn't do etc. etc. in order to minimise any risk of litigation against the company. Barstewards. They tried to do that were I worked where there had been an accident. Someone had witnessed an accident and they tried to browbeat him into saying it was not the fault of the council department. I was there as union rep and I just placed a copy of the health and safety at work act on the table and they soon changed their tune. One in particular the head of department gave jobs to her cronies and promoted them above the people who should have been promoted. I can't go into details but a complaint went in from the union and there was a few resignations including the head of department. 16

A pal actually tendered for it, but didn't get the gig. There's the wee Ruston again! A steal from the interweb, this view often pops up. The rails are indeed still in place, but totally rotted and delaminating, I wouldn't trust them to support very much at all. As Baz said, the line dumpers were at Blackhall, some 14 miles or so south. Evening all. Curious. My memory of the pier from 1970 must have been overlaid by my memory of it from later visits but I really didn't think I'd seen the goliath and I'm sure I'd have noticed a steam driven crane. (I assume that, like dockside travelling cranes, it was far too large to have ever been removed for overhaul) It also occurs to me that the railway might have not been disused at all in 1969/70 but simply not in operation whenever I went there, though that was quite often. Blackhall makes sense for the dumper as I sometimes used the "Economical" bus to get to other parts of the coast south of Shields but never did the same for the Northumberland coast. On hard hats, The Bowler hat (known as the Derby in America) was invented in Britain, probably in 1849 by Thomas and William Bowler, as protective headgear for horse riders and was also particularly popular with railway workers, for both it stayed on the head in strong winds (such as those experienced on a moving train) http://www.historyofhats.net/hat-history/history-of-bowler-hat/ I've also seen photos of them being worn by ship's captains - particularly of coasters (and not just Para Handy!) . It served that function untl at least the 1920s and was actually worn by more people in the American West than the Stetson. Lucius Beebe (Mixed Train Daily etc.) called it "The hat that won the West". The Hat That Won the West -1957

We had an officer who had been sacked from the crematorium for playing the wrong song after the funeral. He came to us ,he was meant to source wood for the Council organised bonfire in Wakefield instead of getting it from our transfer loading station which would have been dry he got some from somewhere else it was wet through and the bonfire wouldn't light and had to be abandoned. He was last heard of as being an education welfare officer. 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post PeterBB Posted July 7, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 7, 2021 (edited) Well, made it tonight but obviously mhave missed a lot. Nearly 5 hours ago came onto the computer to pay a bill - still not paid. Looking for somewhere else to live and the affect of that has led over time to what others have said related to 'black dog' effects as at times I just do not want to do anything. Am one of those who thinks that masks should still be worn and in recent weeks in visits to the local tip (these days apparently called 'recycling centres') have been the only one with a mask but think the centres have been well set up. News tonight that the main Derby tip is insisting on booking and that with a maximum of 12 visits per year OK unless you are moving after a large number of years and need to downsize. Charities are so loaded up that many say that they just cannot take any more. Highways England have been concreting under former railway bridges because they can't be bothered to inspect and maintain - a particular problem I understand in Cumbria where they have spent £240 000 of public money on stopping two heritage railways from joining up and many others from alternative uses as walks/cycle tracks etc. Personal responsibility - agree but with so many ignoring the current need I can imagine what that will generally mean. Hard water and its effects - agree with those who use a filter but also use the same chemical in the kettle as the filters do not keep all the limescale out after a time. Club wise have been very pleased to see that nearly all members have complete paid-up membership, including from March 2020 and recently a booking procedure in place for maximum numbers to begin activity that seems to be working well. Not looking forward to suddenly everyone coming after the 19th. Can honestly say that I have not watched any football match and will no doubt later be informed of tonight's result sometime. Eye test today the good news is that they think I am good for another 10 years for eyesight for driving, the bad news is that since the last test a year or few ago there has been a change that is going to prove expensive with new lenses ... what a pressure to have 'new' glasses my current ones may break when the new lenses are put in -no thanks. A bit of a disjointed post but thanks for reading. Edited July 7, 2021 by PeterBB 3 1

Alas the bread pudding is no more but there was no difficulty in polishing it off on my own. Got to go for another jab tomorrow, nothing to do with covid. RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted July 7, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 7, 2021 Good evening everyone The weather has been very changeable today, rain, sunshine, rain, sunshine, etc. Like yesterday, I timed my journeys to and from the shed very well, although I did wear a jacket, just in case. Today I managed to clear the 2nd shelving unit in the shed, remove it and take it to the cellar. Once I had got it in there, I dismantled it and then rebuilt it into 2 smaller units. They were then put into place in the underfloor storage area and the shelves were refilled. There are still enough parts left over to build a 5th unit, which I will do over the weekend, tomorrow afternoon Charlie is coming round again to do some more modelling, so I’m having the day OFF. However, first thing in the morning I will go to the big orange DIY shed to pick up 2 light fittings. One of these will be added to the lighting in the underfloor storage area, I was hoping to do this before I put the shelving in, but I didn’t have a suitable light fitting in stock. I shall drop these off at home then walk to the pharmacy to see if Sheila’s prescription is ready and I will also call into the bookshop, as the book I ordered on Saturday is IN! I also need to sort out my pension from the company I worked for after leaving school, up until I left to take up the position I retired from in 2017. I can start drawing on this pension from this August! I got a pension pack yesterday, giving me some idea of what I am entitled to, but I need to have a good look at what the small print says. It won’t be a huge amount as I was only paying into it for 11 years, but it will mean a few more modelling tokens going in the bank each month! 23

Popular Post Andrew P
I don't normally watch football, but I did tonight, so I must be a lucky charm. Apparently the bloke in charge, Gareth Southgate, went to the local School, but I don't know him, and whats more, he probably doesn't know me. One thing I did notice, and remember I don't normally watch football, is the players are trying to look like school girls with fancy head and hair bands. I'm sure one even had eye liner on. At the end of the 90 minutes I decided to take my blood pressure, just out of interest and it was 190/94 with my Heart rate from a normal 56 up to 69. Now this PROVES WITHOUT ANY SHADOW OF DOUBT, that football is bad for you. Edited July 7, 2021 by Andrew P 9 3
