RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted July 5, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 5, 2021 Good evening everyone Well the weather has been absolutely awful, although there has been a few sunny spells. As I was taking Vickie to pick up Charlie’s cake mid morning, there wasn’t much point in starting any DIY, so I did the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix instead. Vickie turned up about 30 minutes after I’d got back. Then, when I dropped here back home with the cake, I picked up Charlie as it was raining once again. After dinner, we spent the rest of the afternoon in the cellar. He’d brought his model kit with him, the kit is a Warhammer tank, sort of WWI meets steam punk! The parts looked really well cast indeed and it’s a lot bigger than I’d expected it to be from the description he’d given me. I started off by showing how to remove the parts for the model kit, then how to glue them together. At that point I then left him to it and just sat and watched as he continued building it. He was at it for almost 3 hours, but really enjoyed it and intends to buy another kit once this one’s finished. considering that this is the first plastic kit he’s ever made he hasn’t done too bad a job of it so far. Of course it’s not finished yet, possible 55% done, but I’ve let him borrow my portable building tray and he’s going to carry on at home. The plan is for him to come round again on Thursday and if he’s finished the build, we can with then make a start on painting it. It’s been a long time since he and I have spent so much time together and it’s been really nice, I’m now very much looking forward to Thursday. 26

As for the railways - NHN was born and grew up in one of those houses! Those coal hauling electrics were something else and Westoe colliery was also hard at work . The breakwater railway had also only recently come out of service and the rolling stock was still in the yard. Yes, I was at South Shields Marine and Technical College (now called something else) I never got as far as tickets and was doing phase 3 but I was deciding to change course and, if they'd have me, use my Plymouth OND to go to University, I did an engineering degree but also discovered radio and TV, went to BBC World Service, then into TV and eventually became a producer and, not in the Beeb, an exec. producer. It was the best decision I ever made and I did make a number of programmes relating to STEM and IT. I went back to S. Shields in 2000 when a team at Tyne Tees were doing some work for me and I had a weekend free up there. It had all changed though and no sign that the NHN had even existed. Do you know when the Latino Club closed? we used to go there and it was a lot smarter than anything in Plymouth.

Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all There were anxious moments last night when my bedside clock/radio developed a fault. The button designed to turn off the radio would not function. Now the last thing I need when I want to go to sleep is something with the potential for keeping me awake. Many indeed were the thoughts racing through my mind: how to fix it, how easy it would be to replace it and what happened to the shop where I bought it. After a few minutes of agonising an interim solution emerged - forget about turning off the radio and turn the volume right down. That brought me some peaceful sleep at least. This morning I found that the off button had cured itself. For the time being at least, phew. Almost but not quite un-noticed, a new world record was set in the hot dog eating contest at Coney Island. The long-time holder Joey Chestnut managed to devour 76 hot dogs in 10 minutes. His nearest rival barely managed 50 in the same time. No doubt there is YouTube footage of the event if one cares to search. Only in America? Not necessarily. Remember if you will that the first man to exceed 50 hot dogs was Japanese. Human endurance comes in many forms. As I write this my computer tells me that rain is falling. This will not help me to spend time in the garden removing weeds but it would be a good idea if I were to do so. The day after tomorrow my garden waste bin is due to be emptied and for that to happen it must first be filled. On recent form that will not take long. As with so many things, starting will be the hardest part. This may happen once I have done the fodder run. Right now I would rather do the ironing! Best wishes to all Chris 19

It's also a reflection point for me as I know sometimes I can appear to be a bit "wild" or "gung-ho" (with no fighting!). I did make some mistakes but even the boss says it's a storm in a teacup. But now that storm has weathered and I think the same boss has seen that I am happy to help things progress instead of same old same old. While a procedure has been in place for a long time, doesn't mean it shouldn't be reviewed every so often. It hasn't changed in the last 12 months (at least), so while some other changes are afoot, why not review? However, listened to a really lovely song by a family member this morning that has really given me some peace. Then came in and found people have been using the new system, so while still not great, certainly on the right road. Just need to iron out the bumps, which is easy enough. 18

RMweb Premium TheQ Posted July 6, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 6, 2021 Moring Awl Inner Temple Hare, and a good night sleep was had, nearly 7 hours with just two wake up and turn overs I really needed that. We didn't get the forecast 50mph gales, no sign of leaves torn off, nor any damage to the barley crops, there had been some rain but not a major amount and the roads were drying on the way in. It was, however, a beautiful sunny drive in and the air had been cleared by the rain we did have. I notice airlines are still going to enforce the wearing of masks, I hope other public transport and shops do too, as for the rest.. It makes no difference to me.. Still puzzling on how to do the hand controls for Blue Moon's Steering.. I've Just been looking at a Sopwith Camel's control mechanism for Ideas.. One thing they didn't need to do was arrange the steering, so If I'm sat on the side deck I can still reach the steering for coming into the quay heading.. Hydraulic / electric systems like modern aircraft would be too heavy, illegal, being classed as outside assistance. The Air flows in the outer lab have improved, there was an Airlock sticking out into the outer lab, an 8ft X 8Ft corridor with doors either end. This has been removed and I believe they are not reinstating it in the new door position. It caused the small area beyond to vary in temperature more than they'd like. Time to.. do more research on steering while waiting for this high resistance measurement to settle.. 17
RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted July 6, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 6, 2021 Bear was gonna start the day by modifying a kitchen cupboard shelf to clear the pipework under the sink; however my 25 yards breaststroke certificate means I'm not qualified, judging by the weather out the window. Turdycurses. So I'll start by fitting a couple of door handles as a warm-up, then attack the final fitting of the wall units. Hopefully. I also started reading the operating instructions for the dishwasher last night - not even my training as a QFI on the Space Shuttle will help on this occasion. Seems it wants salt, rinse aid, tablets....and it also wants to know what sort of water I've got and suggests contacting my water supplier to find out. It's the wet sort, what else is there?? Confused..... 16 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted July 6, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 6, 2021 For the first time in ages I watched a whole Rugby League match. Warrington v Leeds .. and heavens to betsy Leeds one. This may mean I have returnee to Rugby as well as cricket. Hurrah! Our game today was cancelled yesterday afternoon. Good job to as it is Chuckinitdarn here and has been for a while. Our garden swinmming area has returned. While we have a few green strawberries on our plants none have ripened to the edible state yet. Pah! Our rhubarb plants have gone nuts this year.. lots of decent sized sticks have already been consumed, long may it's availability continue. Not sure what we will do today. Her indoors was suggesting a trip into town.. sh0pping...erm need to avoid that. Stay safe! Baz 18
Popular Post jonny777
Dry and bright here in North Somerset, but rather breezy. Bin men arrived at 0615, and recycling about an hour later. No sleepy lie in for me. The stormy night was avoided by the simple expedient of the low deciding to go to the south of us and take its gales with it over the English Channel. Yesterday, I managed not only to cut the front grass but trim the hawthorn and privet around the front gates. Also SWMBO insisted I added thin wire to the low fence by the side path, in order that she could train a thornless blackberry to grow along there. All in all, quite a productive day.

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted July 6, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted July 6, 2021 Good morning all, Quite a wet start here earlier but the rain has eased off for now. Blustery showers and sunny spells are promised throughout the day. I will now mention a forbidden subject. Anyone offended by this should look away now. Three hours were spent in The Shed playing with toys, mainly running those that haven't been used for a long time. Pre-Covid in fact due to a reduced service and lack of passengers as everyone in my little world is working from home! Much stuttering, stopping and starting of some until they'd had a few minutes running time. Problems with three so far, two with traction tyres that have fallen apart ( I hate the bl##dy things) and one seems to have something adrift in the motor so will need taking apart at some stage. Putting that off for now however I may well visit The Shed again today. End of forbidden subject. Three parcels due today, one household supplies, one with stuff for Herself and one for me containing a roll of cork sheet. I'll probably watch some cycling later. That's how exciting life will be here for the rest of the day. Have a good one, Bob. 15
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted July 6, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 6, 2021 (edited) Got back yesterday after the weekend away with our friend who was celebrating her birthday. We're only at home for a few days before going to house sit for some other friends for a while, mainly to look after their horses while they are away. All this gallivanting around, although pleasant in itself, isn't doing anything for my muddling time so since the weather here in North Hipposhire is 'orrible I may well sneak off into the workshop this afternoon. Have a good day. Dave PS, I see we have the posting echo chamber effect again. Edited July 6, 2021 by Dave Hunt

I have a photo somewhere of the little Ruston actually moving along the pier railway, just before it was sold. I later saw it at the Yorkshire Dales railway, not sure if it is still there. RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted July 6, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 6, 2021 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Arthur Itis was beating on his drum this morning but as soon as I was moving he disappeared. I will continue to wear a mask even though Bojo says we don't have to. Morning All Just about to pop out for a shift at Age UK shop in Lancaster. Also just had a call from out vet's as Lily is was booked in today for a check on her ears, but due to COVID, there is a locum vet today, and I don't want to risk anything as Lil is very difficult with vets and groomers, and just about tolerates Helen, Suzi and Becky, her regular vets, so I've rebooked her for Friday with Helen, who is the senior vet and also probably the best vet there nowadays. 30747 also in work tomorrow, as there are still some mum colleagues who are looking after kids who are in self isolation bubbles - 30747 is one of the few staff who doesn't have kids, and even if we had, they would have long flown the nest.
