These things happen without warning.  As a part of my coaching to new entrants I always stress how suddenly a situation can arise.  Never take eyes off the ball; never lose focus; always place a question "on hold" until dispatch is completed; always take the extra second to think "Is it safe?" before giving the tip / RA  

 

Agree 100%, especially on crowded platforms with restricted visibility and increased distractions. Yes, full credit to that bloke's quick thinking and reactions. Every day is ordinary - until it isn't.

 

He may have saved the boy's life, the train was within a few seconds of starting to move and the lad had fallen partly over the rail and was in shock. Most people were too busy heading for the exit and I think there was only the two of us who noticed what had happened in those first few seconds. I was supposed to be on holiday but I guess the watching instincts were still at work. Too close for comfort.

Once the uniform has been worn one is never off duty.  I was quicker than the driver recently when a trespass occurred right in front of us. I had the bobby on the phone within seconds despite being off duty.  

 

A good friend works in healthcare and says the same thing; once in healthcare you are never off duty.  She is a lactation consultant but maintains her first-responder training and has used it on and off duty.

Welsh poppies can be white, yellow and orange. I've not seen any white ones, but we have plenty of yellow & orange. Colourful, easy to grow, low maintenance, what's not to like?

In other news:

Ever closed a Website Tab accidentally - and regretted it big time cos' it looked (a) really useful, and (b) you've no idea how you found it?  Welcome to the club.  Well Bear has learnt a new trick - which is probably common knowledge to some (this works in Firefox - no idea about other browsers though):

 

Tabs are life, and life is in tabs. Closing the wrong one leads to that sinking oh no feeling we know all too well. So we made a fix for that.

How to do it: Type Ctrl + shift + T for PC. Command + shift + T for Mac. Boom, tab instantly resurrected. You can even do that multiple times to reopen multiple closed tabs. 

 

Well the Dishwasher is now plumbed in and positioned correctly, though has yet to be secured with screws until I fit the door - tomorrow maybe?

 

Looks like buddy has another buyer, and for the asking price yet again - she was having a second viewing today with Hubby in tow; another interested party was booked to view an hour later.  They are now telling buyers that if they think they can offer the asking price then knock £££ off the price cos' the Surveyor doesn't like Magnolia paint then think again - it won't happen; all that will happen is that they'll waste their Survey fee and legal fees if they decide to try it on.

Quite agree. Even though it's nearly 20 years since I last wore uniform, the instincts and reactions never go away. I've been in several situations and my reactions have, so far been correct.

Well, the tubes were so efficient this morning that I arrived at London Bridge far too early to go on to Sydenham so went for a healthy walk along the Thames as far as Tower Bridge and back. That was the first time I've actually walked in central London for about eighteen months. The rain was forecast from 2 to 4 PM, just the very times of the open air performance but it actually started just as the 11.58 Southern train to Victoria left London Bridge in the opposite direction for its mystery tour of  SE and SW  postcodes. With lines goiing in every direction and randomly crossing one another, London's railways sarf of the river have always seemed more like a ball of wool the cat has been playing with it (or the wiring under my layout !)  than a rational network.

It was raining a bit as I walked from the station to my friends' house but the heavens then opened. Amazingly though it then stopped and remained dry during the entire performance of an adaptation of Animal Farm: we think the producer may have been engaging in the dark arts. 

After whatever you call the main meal of the day when it's at 4.30 PM, a rather splended lasagne followed by an excellent trifle, the journey back home was a lot less efficient, with about forty minutes standing on various platforms, so took almost two hours giving an average speed of about 8 MPH*

(*Are they ever going to open Crossrail?  So far it's taken over twelve years since construction began and it's still not complete. Brunel built the entire GWML in five years when  mainline railway building was in its infancy. It's not a medieval cathedral )

Evening All,

Firstly great gesture by Dave Hunt and beautiful models they are.

Had Sydney round for most of the day. Got soaked this morning when we took him for his morning consultational but the weather picked up this afternoon so we took him for a longer walk that included a visit to the garden centre. In between I decided to have a look at the books and shocked myself as to how far behind I am with them, better get a shift in tomorrow. I did watch the ‘beautiful game’ this evening though this wasn’t a beautiful match, good result though.
Some kind of ‘special’ is coming through the woods near me tomorrow and as Sydney likes that sort of thing I intend to take him for a look.

Went down to Newark yesterday as it’s recently been my sister’s and niece’s birthdays so a small family celebration was organised.

Cricket was played. A 30 overs per side game with lots of bish, bash, bosh hitting. A good game to umpire and play in..

 

Youngest Herbert also got a game in.. 53 runs off 23 balls then bowling at about 4 an over.. his team won! Hurrrah!

Evening all,

 

Suddenly at about 21.30 this evening she realised that the cleaning of vacuum had not been carried out.  No reprimand was received and if one had been issued I would have advised that I hadn't done it because I didn't want the noise to wake her up.  I believe the currently relevant expression would be deuce. (Probably the only thing of any use connected with that particular piece of tv consuming nonsense.)

 

A friend of herself's asked in a recent email if she was finding the tennis to be quite exciting this year?  I am pleased to say that my good lady is thoroughly aware of the real importance and relevance of such things -  she responded with  'What tennis?"
