The culprit appears to be a blocking high in the NE Pacific which has disrupted the jetstream in that area and cut off the normal west to east flow of air from that part of the Pacific. I have trouble with high 20s C, and high 30s would render me completely incapable, so I hate to think what 49C must be like. However, the block does seem to be eroding slowly and normal service looks like arriving by early next week in that area. Thank you for your thoughts. Here in Portland, a big marine push started late on Monday (after we set our all-time high). It is currently overcast and at noon, it is 20°C. Three days ago it was at least 40°C at this time. Air conditioning made it survivable for me. About 20% of households do not have air conditioning in Oregon and state-wide we had 63 deaths attributed to the heat, 45 of them in Multnomah County (Portland). More deaths were recorded further north where much fewer people have air conditioning. There are reports of 486 fatalities in British Columbia. As noted by @pH the problem now is wildfire. 90% of Lytton, the 'hot spot' in all of Canada recording almost 50°C has been destroyed by fire. 3 1

Baz That is a disgrace! Not that my treatment was that much better when I was still in the UK. Due to Covid, they would not due a proper review at all, just telephone interviews. I told them where they could put their telephone. Have every sympathy with NHS problems due to Covid, but what good to they think they can do with a telephone interview? Diabetes needs tests (and results). 8 1
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted July 1, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted July 1, 2021 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Bread pudding has been consumed so no cakes or biscuits until Monday, now on second muggatee. Delivered the wrongly delivered parcel a short while ago, no one was in but the porch door was open so I left it in the porch out of sight. Arthur Itis had been kicking up a bit but the Nurofen has been deployed and all is quiet. Now to tackle Farcebook, be back later.
JohnDMJ
Good Evening awl, for it may yet turn out to be! Despite a relatively dry day, automatic wipers detected some damp bits on the windscreen whilst driving home. Talking about medical examinations and tests, I have to pass by the local hospital tomorrow to return their portable ECG monitor which was fitted today (I will refrain from pointing out that it was EARLIER today for it is already fitted and I try to avoid stating the B******G obvious!) In other news: WTF is a craft beer? 11 hours ago, leopardml2341 said: ....and it is nothing like what it used to be - in fact it's carp! When Fuller's of Chiswick bought out Gales of Horndean, they spent a fortune on finding the right formula to make the Chiswick brew taste the same as the Horndean brew. I remain unconvinced! However, as far as I'm concerned, if a beer ain't conformant with the, at least, 500 year-old Purity Laws, it ain't a beer! Under said Laws, a beer is made from water, barley, yeast and hops. NOTHING ELSE! It is the flavour of the water, the way in which the particularly chosen variety of barley is cracked (I shall avoid using the Oxford Comma here) and the type of hops used which determine both the style and flavour of the beer. We all have our own definitions of so-called real ale and craft beers, but, for me, it couldn't be simpler than the Purity Laws! RMweb Premium Popular Post southern42 Posted July 1, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 1, 2021 Glad to hear Dave Hunt's Dad is back at home and hope he settles easily back into home life. Click and collect taking some odd turns again. Slice bread back on the list (new slicer in store or old one mended?) but skimmed milk substituted with skimmed.... <sigh> Hey, what? The cows have not gone on strike, have they? Moo! No! We've gone a fat free diet! Almost time for Dragon's Den. I wonder what is in store tonight? Any more lovely ideas for little grandchildren, I wonder... Time to go watch and pick up a mugadecaf on the way. 17 1

It was great as SWMBO doesn’t like me playing anything in the garden so as not to annoy the neighbours so I got to listen to some great music without personally annoying anyone. Been a bit quite recently though. If you really do want to go to town ‘ Sid Sings’ would be a really good (or bad) choice. Sids version of ‘My Way’ is particularly good and some says it’s better than the original. 13 1 6

Some of my medical problems are down to drugs used to treat something else and if I had known of the side effects I would have asked if there was an alternative. Bearing in mind that most if not all drugs have side effects which could be worse with any alternatives. All drugs have side effects, they also have what’s known as ‘cautions’ and ‘ conta-indication’ which the prescriber must also take into consideration. I was offered medication for my problem earlier this week but decided to try controlling the symptoms without medication as I’m not too keen on the side effects of the medication that would be prescribed and would in any case try to manage without intervention. Thoughts for all those in the Pacific NW region, life must in intolerable there. I don’t even want to think about the devastation being caused to the wildlife out there. Busy day tomorrow so I’ll bid you all a goodnight, Robert 1

It was a volume distinction which became popular to differentiate between microbreweries (often served on premises, perhaps with some local distribution) at the low-end and large industrial brewers at the high end. In the US it applies to brewers brewing less than 6 million barrels per year, with no ownership by the large industrial brewers. It's meant to imply a quality beer made by a smaller producer but with wider distribution than a brewpub. RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted July 1, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted July 1, 2021 Good evening everyone I’ve had a rather busy day today, but when I packed up this afternoon, I’d dug up all the shrubs that either needed moving or potting up to give away AND all the plants we bought yesterday. I also found time to add a few camomile plants to areas where the ones planted 5 weeks ago were looking a little sparse. Everything was then watered in, giving everything a real good soaking. I then came in a little later than usual and had a nice long drink of iced tea! After tea we had another walk in the garden to have a look at the alterations and how the new plants look. I did deviate a little this morning when planting them, as I thought it looked a little unbalanced. Thankfully, Sheila agreed with me, phew I think I got away with that one! For the last few nights, we’ve had the dining room French doors open and it’s cooled both the dining room and the living room quite nicely. The two rooms were knocked through before we bought the house and it’s been very useful when we have BIG family get togethers, hands up who remembers them!.
