RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted June 21, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 21, 2021 Evening orl. Sunny now on Fraggle Rock. I can't recommend travel to Heysham from stations to the south of the UK via Douglas - rather expensive and time consuming! Also the pronunciation of Heysham causes issues - even amongst Hesyhamites..... Hay-sham or He-sham? I had a pal that lived there, and the locals use both. The Big News is I have finally mastered that bl**dy bike engine, at the third time of rebuilding. The firm that did the rebore simply made a dogs of it, now I have it apart and measured up. I eventually managed to find used but good parts to rebuild it again, with new but genuine piston rings, and all is now well, the smokescreen is banished. 19 3

RMweb Premium Popular Post The White Rabbit Posted June 21, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted June 21, 2021 Evening all. Well, it didn't feel much like midsummer's day. The fleece was dragged kicking and screaming out of it's lair in the wardrobe. Being out and about for much of the day, I wasn't going around in shirtsleeves. The woolly hat got an airing too. More rubbish and furniture pieces taken to the tip, I can see the floor now... Another room cleared completely. Some progress made. Only to come back within range of emails to find a little crisis to deal with. Done but I suspect there's something funny going on, with a strong possibility of someone playing games. Not a good idea. A little G-word done yesterday. A flowerbed dug over, weeded and freshened. Some onions thinned and consumed. That blackbird is a messy eater. I reckon for every redcurrant he scoffs, he drops three. I know that is how little redcurrant bushes are made, but he could drop some more than six inches away from the existing bush. The sparrows were concentrating on their seeds, as it had rained overnight and dampened their dustbath hollows. Best wishes & sympathies to all those suffering, whether physically or mentally. 17

I've just heard from my oldest friend that her GP has told her that the hospital has decided not to proceed with her well overdue hip replacment because of her diabetes. She had that when her other hip was replaced three or four years ago and I don't think it's any worse now . Before Covid the surgeon had told her to lose weight before he'd do the operation which she has. At that time she was walking with a stick, now she can hardly move, is having to use a frame, is in constant agonising pain, terrified of falling and sometimes can't even get out of bed. Understndably she was in tears when I spoke to her after lunch. Given the backlog I'm wondering if they're rationing surgery to the more straightforward cases. My friend is in her late sixties but is in a worse place than my mother was in her late nineties. Not a good day! No doubt waving a cheque book would quickly remove all surgical complications....... Cynical etc. etc...... 2 hours ago, Ian Abel said: In the evening went to see "In the Heights" with our friends. First theatre experience since COVID struck. Boy, I really miss those guys - my Grandad loved them, and to be able to watch an episode or two with him now...well I'd give up LDC forever.... I guess they're not considered "PC" now - I've not seen them on the TV for years. Bl00dy madness, bearing in mind the sicko cr@p they're happy to broadcast nowadays. RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted June 21, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted June 21, 2021 (edited) What a difference from yesterday, when an afternoon was spent basking in hot sun watching cricket. The lads had a brilliant win against the top team to overtake them at the top. Little Thomas got his best score so far with 15 not out off 11 balls, not bad for someone who should be playing U9 level appearing in the U11 team. Sammy got a bit ratty after being hit for 4 then came steaming in for the next ball which almost took took the batsman's bootlace out on the way to hitting middle and off. Today, after a sunny start with a bit of the G word followed by coffee in the sun the day went downhill. Cloud came in and the temperature dropped rapidly. A stiff north wind got up so it was lunch in the conservatory and indoor jobs. Upside was that I successfully converted a pair of MTB wheels to tubeless tyres for Mrs SE so I may be allowed some quiet time in the Railway Room for the remainder of the evening. The rain hasn't reached this far so watering will again be required unless we get some later.. Doh. 20 hours ago, Winslow Boy said: Don't worry I have a piece of paper that says I'm qualified to dig holes yet I still dig them wrong. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted June 21, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted June 21, 2021 About to tackle Farcebook. Last night I seemed to go through my groups in double quick time and then I realised many of them had gone AWOL, it seems that Farcebook were making changes. The groups returned eventually but it was well past bedtime when they did come back so I will have to check them tonight. 1

All those protestors too... Hands up who didn’t see this coming. Three areas of Cornwall, which had zero positive tests for several days pre-G7, are now among the worst-infected in the entire UK. St. Ives has gone from zero infection to the UK’s most-infected place in a few days. You won’t find that reported by any mainstream or government source other than on the Coronavirus Dashboard map. Are we unhappy? We are positively jumping. In other words it continues to rain in what has, for today, become Eeyore’s Gloomy Place. Rather boggy and sad. All of us, cat included, have been downbeat and can’t be a***ed all day. There is a persistent nagging pain in the left foot which suggests a full-on gout attack is imminent. Tomorrow may be a better day. Time to sleep until it arrives. Solstice blessings to all; merry meet, merry part and merry meet again. 2

Ah, I need to bring Puppers up to speed with the arrangements chez NHN/MrsNHN regarding motorbikes. The one in the photo is mi ne, the other 4 are hers, although I have sort of adopted the BMW currently. We met through bikes, almost 40 years ago, Debs worked in a Suzuki and then a Honda dealer for years when a young 'un, so any new bikes in the fleet are OK....there are only two rules: no 2 strokes, no Harleys. And as for posing value - my next door but one neighbour has an MV and a Paton. Now that's cool. Life on Fraggle Rock is very pro-bikey, that and the lifestyle are why we live here.

That sounds like built in obsolescence to me presumably intended to keep manufacturers and roofers in work forever. There is a bungalow at the top of our road which is roofed with cedar shingles and I can remember it being built which makes it at least 50 years old (more likely 60 in fact) and it has never to my knowledge been renewed. Yes asphalt shingles have a lifespan of 15-25 years. Cedar shake (here, Western Red Cedar) has a lifespan of about 30 years - I see numbers of 20-40 years quoted. An older neighbourhood in a nearby subdivision was built with them perhaps 30 or more years ago. The existing ones now look terrible. Many have been replaced with asphalt shingles which are considerably cheaper (one source quoted $8 - $15 for cedar shake versus $3.50 - $5.50 per square foot for asphalt shingles). The asphalt shingles also come in a variety of colours - usually earth tones emphasizing grey, brown or green). Clay tiles are about $15 per square foot. Terracotta tiles and stucco are a popular architectural choice in southern California - usually when they are going for a Mediterranean or Spanish Colonial look. Installation cost is more expensive for tiles. Despite the name, asphalt shingles (which have a rocky granular surface) can withstand fire for about two hours. Cedar shake that is not treated with fire retardant is extremely flammable - a considerable concern these days. In my formative days my parents home (built Ca 1961) was covered in concrete tiles - talk about heavy. The "traditional" roofing material for 19th century homes in Australia was the 'corrugated iron' or 'tin roof'. Leaky, and deafening in a hail storm. The Looney Tunes cast (WB rather than MGM) will return in Space Jam: A New Legacy with LeBron James leading the live action v. Toon Squad basketball movie rather than Michael Jordan who appeared in the original Space Jam. This seems to me to be the very definition of a derivative work. Culture warriors tried to make an issue out of the rapacious (or at least wannabe) Pepé le Pew not appearing in Space Jam: A New Legacy. Guess what? No one cared. I wonder if perhaps lack of interest is similarly a contributor to Tom and Jerry not being on television. While they may have helped build the "House of Mouse" (currently the biggest entertainment company in the world), excepting as a study of the history of animation in film in terms of technique, structure and subject matter, Silly Symphonies are almost unwatchable as entertainment. 12

We then took mil to Corton Wood to do a bit of supermarket shopping. I think Tom and Jerry was my favourite cartoon show but I also liked Bugs Bunny, Stop the Pigeon and Wacky Races.
