Evening folks.

A few more doings done and a beer garden  visited - my own  :)

I really should carry a little notepad in my back pocket so that I can write down tomorrow's jobs when I think of them today.

Might not check  back later so, although it's  quite early,  when the time comes for bed , sleep well.

With that, time for a very early night. I’m getting old. Must be UK roads as a 12 hour 1200km drive used to be nothing to me.

Yes, I’d agree that it does depend on the road. I’ve done the 1200km in 12 hour drive (Edmonton-Vancouver?) and apart from a numb bum for a couple of days, it wasn’t too bad. But last week I drove Nelson-Vancouver - 640 km in 10 hours on the Crowsnest highway, though with plenty of stops. That was hard, and I know the road pretty well.

Bear has completed cutting/planing both of the short decorative end panels to fit - these being the same height as the base units.  There is one tall decorative panel to do - being just over 2m high; I'm in no great rush to get that one fitted though, as it's final location makes it a prime target for potential damage when the worktops are being maneuvered into position.  Tomorrow will see a request for an (updated) estimate for the worktops submitted; I also plan to wire up the cooker supply (finally!).  I also want to paint the cut edges of the end panels where they contact the floor in order to seal them against possible moisture ingress when the floor is washed etc.  There's lots of hidden jobs like that - when added up they sure do take up the time.  It's one reason why I'd not want a kitchen fitting team to fit the kitchen - loads of tasks that Bear (and buddy next door, who's pretty clued up on site work) regard as essential/highly desirable that just wouldn't get done if kitchen fitters were doing the job.

Nearly new neighbours next door have the same roofer (Tom) that converted Bear's Conservatory into a "substantially glazed structure" (that's Buildings Control B*llshit for sticking a solid roof on it - which is one of the best things this Bear ever did) coming round this week to quote for sorting out their leaky lead valley; Bear plans to sound him out regarding replacing the roof felt and battens on Bear's roof at some point in the semi-near future - such as maybe this time next year.  The felt is around 50 years old now, and whilst showing (touch wood) no signs of any issues at present, at some point in Bear's lifetime it's pretty certain that it'll need doing.  I have no desires to move, so I figure I'd rather get it done and out of the way now(ish) than in ten year's time - and by someone I can trust to do a good job.  That's the plan, anyway.....

Evening all from Estuary-Land. Just finished a couple of rounds of ham sandwich. In Tess Coes today I spotted a pack of very nice looking ham in the reduced to clear so I grabbed it. It was when disposing of the wrapper I spotted the use by date, 10th. June no less. How it got into the stuff with todays date I don't know but it was quite a bit cheaper than usual. I wish that I had spotted the date a bit sooner. Tea is brewing, be back later.

The local Fire Brigade visited Bear's place of work one lunchtime on a "meet the public" kind of event.  Bear talked to the Chief for a while - it seems the problem with modern cars is that they are becoming so strong that it can take a while to get the occupants out, which of course isn't helpful in some respects.  The other issue is they have to refer to computer databases for each & every model of car to establish where it is (and isn't) safe to cut bits of car away - cutting in the wrong place can set off airbags etc. which can risk harm to those inside, as well as to the fire crews nearby.

I have seen on occasions the fire brigade have ratchet strapped a cover over a steering wheel where the drivers airbag had not got off.

A collegue at the Council Scouse Billy more of a socialist than Trotsky was an ex fire fighter. He told us the tale of trying to gain entry to a burning smart car by opening the boot and ending up holding it as it had come away in his hand they have fabric brackets that hold the boot door
