RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted May 19, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 19, 2021 After several days trying to get some sense out of 'the system' regarding Dad's current treatment (or rather lack of it) I finally got a breakthrough. When he was transferred last Friday from Whitchurch hospital to a nursing home in Shrewsbury, my understanding (and Dad's) was that it was supposed to be for a continuation of his rehabilitation and I had been promised by the ward sister at Whitchurch when I voiced some misgivings about the transfer that he would continue to receive physiotherapy. However, when he was seen at the nursing home by a doctor he was told that he didn't qualify for physiotherapy unless he funded it himself, which caused me to see red and to question the veracity of the Whitchurch personnel - fairly forcibly. Today, though, Dad was visited as a result by a social services lady who then rang me to say that the problem had arisen because the doctor at Whitchurch had put on Dad's notes that he didn't want to return to his home but wanted a permanent place in a nursing home, so his present situation was just a holding arrangement pending such a move. Apparently his situation had been discussed with me (true) and I had agreed to him going permanently into a nursing home (false) as well as being told that in this case he wouldn't receive any more physiotherapy (also false). I leave it to you, gentle reader, to gauge my reaction to this. Fortunately the social services lady seems to be a nice and understanding human being who has realised the error and is working on having Dad's status changed so that he is classified as a patient needing rehabilitation care, including physiotherapy, with a view to returning home in due course. I await developments. The only other happening in my particular neck of the North Salopshire woods is that Jill has gone to visit her sister in Devon for a week so I am back in bachelor existence mode and expect any spare time I have when not dealing with Dad's needs to be spent in the workshop. I bid you all a good night and a peaceful one. Dave 1

On my iPad I use the Microsoft Edge browser and that can read QR codes too from the search bar. 3 3

As @Barry O noted things have been busy with the shop which has kept me away from RMWeb. I have also been very tired all week which seems to be a side effect of vaccine dose number 2. A few decent night’s sleeps needed I think. Night all. Andy 1
Popular Post Pacific231G
Had a pub lunch today (outdoors but it was covered and warm) with a friend I'd not seen for over six months and then only at a safe distance on her doorstep to get my share of the jammy results of last year's crop from my blackberry bushes. Spent the rest of the day, till about ten minutes ago, killing widows and orphans. Much hilarity when someone was asking about the location of a photo and hadn't spotted the name painted in big friendly letters on the front of a signalbox. Shades of "Where did Lincoln deliver the Gettysburg address? " 15 4

Funny enough I know a nonagenarian who won't be updating her phone or getting a computer either. I think my case is well and truly rested I think the first time I met the modern approach to "customer service" was in the NY hotel I stayed in for my first few nights during my first ever visit to the USA.(Nothing to do with computers because in those days they filled a room and lived on a diet of punched cards) "As a Service to our guests, the Hotel Conway now only offers a Continental Breakfast from room service" (Previously you could get a cooked breakfast) It was though a time when the big chains hadn't taken over and the country still had a lot of "Mom and Pop" restaurants where you could get pretty good home made food. 14 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted May 19, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 19, 2021 Good evening everyone We had a very enjoyable day at RHS Bridgewater today. The weather for the most part was cool, although, just after we’d booked in and were about to go out to the garden the heavens opened and we had rain and hailstones! So we headed to the shop to see what was on available, we didn’t purchase anything at that time as it would have meant we’d be carrying it around with us for the rest of the day. Thankfully, the rain didn’t last long and after about 15 minutes we set off to have a look at the gardens. There weren’t many people there so we had plenty of room to stroll around at our own leisurely pace, taking in all the walled gardens. These looked a little bare in places, but they did look like they had only just been planted up. We spent about an hour or so wondering the gardens, before we headed towards the Chinese and woodland gardens. Again, the Chinese garden looked a little bare, but it was still quite spectacular and will be even more so when complete. We then headed towards the woodland walk, where we enjoyed wondering through the trees and around the lake. This section took me back to my youth, I used to be in the scouts and we spent many weekends camping in those woods and messing about in that lake. By this time it was almost 1 o’clock, so we headed to the main café to see about getting something to eat. However, the queue was absolutely enormous, so we went to the shop, bought a few plants, 10 x strawberry plants and a fairly good rhubarb specimen. I also bought a few garden tools and set off home for a late dinner. I have to say that we had a thoroughly great day there, the whole experience was very relaxed, the staff in the shops and in the reception area were very friendly, courteous and helpful, we’ll definitely be going again and it won’t be too long before we do either. 25 1

Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all There is good news from last night’s Zoom gathering of Chilterns Area Group. It is hoped that the June meeting will be a face to face conclave hosted by a member. Obviously Zoom has its limitations, and from time to time frustrations, but it has helped no end to keep the Group functional. We shall not see the end of the technology, for it is the means by which my presentation will be delivered on Saturday. Talking of deliveries, one which has not yet taken place is that of the remaining DVD from Amazon. It is allegedly on its way from the third party vendor. Amazon are very sorry that it is late but tell me that late items usually turn up a few days after the due date. I await developments. This morning I am to receive a phone call from Professor Oncologist, who will tell me what my recent blood test has told him. I am apprehensive, naturally. On past form he will tell me that it is nothing to worry about. How can cancer be nothing to worry about? This afternoon I will be rehearsing Saturday’s presentation and this evening there is another Zoom gathering, this time of LGBT+ In Faith. When we meet in the flesh, as it were, we are asked to bring something edible to share on a theme given by the convenor. This time the subject is May Queens! My search for inspiration is becoming more desperate by the minute. There must be a perfectly simple explanation for the situation in which Dave and his Dad find themselves. True, mistakes happen, but on the face of it there is no excuse for them being deliberate. I hope for the sake of all concerned that the correct solution is found. Continuing warm thoughts to Dave, his Dad, Gordon S and all missing persons. Best wishes to all. Chris 10 1 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted May 20, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 20, 2021 Ey up! The Peter Principle has evolved.. we now have the Super Peter Principle.. ie elevate people to at least two if not three levels above their level of competence. Happens in all walks of life unfortunately. Her indoors off to moreasons (apparently I can go next week if we can get a cooked breakfast..she will check this week). I must tidy up my work room as I have a visitor coming tomorrow. It does need tidying up. Problem is I will never be able to find anything. @BSW01.. we have a spare rhubarb crown here at the moment. It is growing well this year. @Dave Hunt a letter of complaint is well in order. I wonder howcmany other patients the doctor has donecthat to? time to.. get ready for Thursday. stay safe! baz 18 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted May 20, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 20, 2021 (edited) As for Chris's edible, order a stick or two of Blackpool rock.. You'll need a May pole... https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fruity-Rainbow-Flavoured-SweetsOld-Flavours/dp/B01HJZQAY8 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Hare, 563/352 though that number doesn't include next years extra Bank Holiday. A good nights sleep, 6 hours plus 1 hour... I needed that. Ben the I'm not moving yet Collie, didn't turn up for alarm clock duties, But did enjoy his damp patrol, no not rain (yet) but a very heavy dew. Much snuffling as SWMBO now reports seeing two young Foxes out on the grass. Skies very blue with the merest hint of cloud in places, absolute calm (before the storm). As for Gwiwers comments about incompetence.. There is one obvious example of the statement... Politicians ... of all parties... As for Gwiwers Future it looks like he'll be directly or indirectly be working for Great British Railways.. The lettering on UK yacht sails for international events is GBR.. sponsor ship anyone? Another interview for deputy head of lab failed miserably , interviewed by zoom, the man had all the paper but knowledge?... errr. Meanwhile the recruitment agency with the task , reports have having done a sweep through "Linked IN", everyone of the right qualifications that they've contacted said.... Norfolk?.. NO Chance... Todays task, providing I can gather all the equipment, need two different major systems taken apart, and reassemble together in a different format, than another rack of additional equipment pushed alongside to supply current a wide range of frequencies.. all for a small Current transformer unit.. it takes more time to set up and put away than to measure... Time to check the Junk Mail before getting to work.. Edited May 20, 2021 by TheQ 19

That came out a few years after Parkinson's Law which, IIRC is that Work expands to fill the time available for it's completion. Also well worth a read. Anyway good morning on Thors day. Thankfully there is no thunder around, though I seem to have heard the sound of an approaching air strike over Whitchurch. I hope that Dave makes some progress. At least this week he will not do anything wrong, or at leadt not be told about his sins of omission or commission. Here I managed to get the shopping done yesterday and did some general potterring about. Today I am suposed to be waiting in an empty house for a delivery of three mattresses. The delivery slot is 08.00 to 18.00. To say thecleast I'm not impressed. I did email them yesterday asking them to ring me 30 minutes prior to arrival. I am planning to go down for an hour this morning and possibly after lunch. Apart from that not a lot is planned but I may spend some time getting thi gs to movevon parallel strip of metal in places that haven't seen movements for 6 months. I did do a bit of that yesterday.
