RMweb Gold TheSignalEngineer Posted May 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 14, 2021 Evening all. What a day. Didn't start well but at least it improved with age. I had been thinking I would need new front tyres on the car very soon, but coming home late on Wednesday night the car developed strange suspension noises. I couldn't pin it down and wasn't using it yesterday so took it for an inspection this morning which found a broken offside front spring. Luckily it had only failed at low speed a short distance from home. The garage managed to get the bits needed and fitted plus the two tyres replaced this afternoon so no prolonged time out of service. My opthalmology checkup had been postponed last year due to the pandemic and I hadn't heard anything of the promised new date. I called the appointments system and was told I was on the waiting list. The operator said he would check possible dates and came back to announce that there was a cancellation for next Monday, was i available? After picking the car up I went to see the boys playing in a cricket match tonight. Another good performance with the little one taking a wicket and scoring ten runs whilst the big one took two wickets in a ten run victory. It was the second win of the week after handing out an absolute thrashing on Wednesday where the little one took three wickets for four runs including a spectacular diving c&b and the big one kept wicket for the first half of the opposition's innings getting a stumping, then came on to bowl, took a wicket then after failing to hold a half chance off his own bowling picked up the ball and hit the stumps to get a run out. I said the day got better and as I didn't feel like a big meal when I got home I had a smoked bacon omelet.
RMweb Gold PeterBB Posted May 14, 2021 RMweb Gold Share Posted May 14, 2021 Over a hundred pages since last viewed - wow so probably not up to date ... Bakers day ... went back to find out. Liked the big and little cricket notes from a proud dad quite a change since Baz is normally the cricket man. Also reminded, via this cricket trigger, that my county have actually won a match and managed not to lose against another county during which three of its batsman made centuries. Training days were fine until you were told informed rather than chose the sessions that you had to attend. True, some of them were useful but some ... then there were the half-terms - for the students but that otherwise became known as EMW - everybody marking weeks. Hope Dave's Dad gets his mojo back and the 'Swiss' doctor sounds like the future source for antibody donation. Covid jabs just realised that a month has passed since J2 but still not happy to 'mix'. My very very quick scam through did not pickup any GDB comments and also noticed a fair number of others not posting ... are we all suddenly finding ourselves totally occupied that time just goes by so quickly ... or SWMBO seems to find yet another thing that needs doing - preferably now? 18
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted May 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 14, 2021 Good evening everyone When I arrived at the butchers this morning, there was a small queue, 2 people waiting ahead of me, but it seemed to take ages for the person inside to get served. Anyway, at least I was able to get a pastie for my dinner. When I arrived home, Sheila said that she’d decided she wanted to come with me to the Trafford Centre, could I wait until she’d got herself ready. We finally arrived there about 30 later than if I’d gone on my own! Anyway, she managed to get what she wanted and came away a happy bunny. She suggest that I go to the bookshop after I’d packed away all the shopping, as I’d have plenty of time. However, I disagreed, saying that I intended to have a muggertea once I’d packed everything away. I had about 30 minutes to kill before dinner time, so as I sat having my drink, I made a phone call to a former colleague, another ex trainee, who was one of the nicest people I’ve ever worked with. She become a mum a couple of years ago and to my shame, I’d not spoken too for over 2 years! Anyway, we had a good old chin wag, discussing parenthood etc. She did tell me that I’d made the right decision to leave and that I left at the right time, as things have changed quite drastically. More forms to fill in, boxes to tick etc and is the norm in these cases, not for the better. It was really nice to catch up with her, we both promised each other that we won’t leave it so long next time. After dinner, I walked to bookshop and was pleasantly surprised with books I actually collected from the bookshop, the HMRS book was one them. I mentioned last night that I thought this might be the one that was still outstanding, in fact the shop owner said that the man she spoke to when placing the order was extremely helpful and it was a pleasure to do business with them. Also, it was the first book of the 3 books that I ordered to arrive, so well done HMRS.

They play under 11's at two clubs in different leagues. The little one is only just 9 and a strip of wind to look at him but one of the coaches describes him as their secret weapon because he looks such a little tot but has a good bowling action and has this skidding yorker which is as fast as any of the 11 year olds. His acrobatic fielding comes from playing in goal for the local football team. 18
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted May 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 14, 2021 (edited) I just want to say a very big thank you to the denizens of this forum for the support, encouragement and helpful suggestions I've received since my Dad had his accident and has been shuffled round various medical institutions. It's the sort of thing that the ER community excels in and I'm grateful to be part of it. You're a great bunch. G'night all. RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted May 15, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 15, 2021 Mooring Awl Inner Temple Hare, 1 hour plus 2.5 hours so far, not enough, I'm think covid jab 2.0 has upset my thermostat. I'm alternately hot and cold, fore and aft paws being the worst and often in opposition.. My duties and crew for the 3 Rivers Race now organised, one of my crew is Emma Buntin.. no not a fake blond pop singer who was always older than she pretended to be. But a member of the sailing club who has had more bad jokes about her name than most.. Of sailing, a fairly well known chandler in London is shutting it's doors and going online.. A young company, they set up shop in 1500, that's the reign of Henry 7. They report London rents just make it uneconomic to continue, so the are moving outside to city to a warehouse. Plans for today, Demolish some MDF into some vertical sections for shelving and start painting them. Start work fitting the keel. One thing I've realised is I'll have to move the crane a couple of feet forward, as the keel will move the centre of gravity . Then some experiments as to trial lifts before the actual fitting. Time for more sleep. 16
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted May 15, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 15, 2021 Ben the alarm Clock Collie was on time, pity it's a weekend. It's heavy with impending rain out there, dull 100% cloud, the only thing shining is a very good show of bluebells.. The jab 2.0, is for me, worse than the first, though I'm not as bad as many, just my temperature, and a sight headache. The recommended pills have been taken, because I'm feeling cold I'm wrapped up in a sleeping bag on the sofa and supping a muggacoffee. Another hour and a half and I'll make bacon and eggs for breakfast. 1
Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all There is more technical trouble to report. This time my landline does not function, though my broadband is still OK. The line is dead [long live the line, perhaps?] and there is no dialling tone when I lift the receiver. When I ring my landline number from my mobile I get the engaged tone. This is very silly. BT tell me that the fault should be fixed by the end of Wednesday 19th. This is also very silly. I sneaked - not ‘snuck’, please! – a look at the amber list of countries compiled by those who rule us. It includes Morocco and Switzerland, making it now unlikely that I shall be visiting the first in November and the second over the festive season thanks to the requirement for quarantine on return. I realise of course that the list is not set in stone but it is realistic to assume that things will get worse before they improve. That ruddy virus is a strange type of prison. Why anyone thinks that it can be controlled is beyond me. A few pages ago there was talk of bidets. All I have to offer on that topic is the observation that a certain friend of mine found one very handy into which to throw up. How unfortunate. It must have been something he drank. Continuing warm thoughts to Dave’s Dad and all on the sick list. Best wishes to all. Chris 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted May 15, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 15, 2021 Ey up! It isn't raining here.. yet. The sky has a lot of very dark clouds in it. Weather people reckon it will start to chuckitdarn at 9am. Pah! I have a trip to Bilton in Harrogate for todays umpiring activities so it may be a wasted journey. Youngest Herbert started cricket training at 5 years old. By the age of 7 he was playing in the under 9s and continued to play above his age through junior cricket. @TheSignalEngineer.. just keep encouraging them as they may have good years and bad years due to growing. I need my mugatea so TTFN. Stay safe , positive thoughts to all, Baz 21
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted May 15, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 15, 2021 Good moaning from a rather damp Charente. Like BB above I've noticed thevabsencevof GDB and others. I hope that the black dog is not on the rampage. Also best wishes to Hunt Snr. On his travels round the Wrekin. As to the Misanthrope with MacSporran, aka Captain Cynical, if you can't take a joke you shouldn't have joined. I read somewhere that a volunter is someone who has misunderstood the question. I have a confession to make. I discovered last night, after I'd put the chicks to bed, tha they'd been on an involuntary diet for at least 24 hours. Their feeder hadn't got any emptier and on inspection it had got jammed with mud, probably some rain blowing in. Anyway I brought it inside, at 21.45, and cleaned it out. This morning it was refilled and put back when I let them out at 07.40. They found it straight away but in their usual way were all trying to get at the same feeding point. There are about 20. Breakfast and coffee being finished as I type and then at 09.00 it's time to talk to Emily. After that I will probably go and finish the repairs to two chairs in the shed as it's rather damp outside. Regards to all. Jamie 19 1 1

She is not featured but her work visibly is. https://www.channel5.com/show/kew-gardens-a-year-in-bloom/ Oh, dear! I knew that would be a mistake... starting to watch all those Kew Gardens videos! I was hooked from the very beginning. All those days out with Mum over the years (last visit together 2015) - each turn of the camera and we had been there...up in the tree canopy, inside with the waterlillies, over the bridge watching nesting swan on the island & ducks swimming on the lake, wandering around the palm house & temperate house, following peacocks to get a photo, admiring the garden displays, not being allowed in the Princess of Wales house because David Attenborough was filming in there so sitting out in the sunshine admiring the views! Such wonderful memories relived. Thanks for posting the link. Some truly magnificent & fascinating content. Looking forward to watching the rest of it. 6

South Derbyshire is yet again grey and damp, with a 66% chance of rain for the next 3hrs, which is not good as experience has told me the moment I hang out the laundry the 66% will become 100%. So today: Breakfast (soon) Laundry Wood butchering Drive to SWMBO's place with Doggo Beer Garden (22% chance of rain) Best wishes to all, especially those who ail physically, mentally (or both) and the best of luck in navigating any difficult conditions in which you may find yourselves. 20

MiL had been looking at the record sheets produced by her overnight carer. MiL said she doesn’t get up that often. Aditi spoke to her Mum and it seems both MiL and the carer were right. However MiL wasn’t counting the time she got out of bed before going to sleep and the time when she goes to the bathroom when waking in the morning. The paperwork has a definition of 'Night Time' which is 'When the Household has closed down at the end of the Day' - but how does this apply to Care Home residents as they have staff on duty all the time and so it doesn't 'close down' at night time. I appreciate that the situation is different for those still living at home with an overnight carer sleeping there in case of need.
