RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted May 13, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 13, 2021 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Foxes are a bit noisy tonight, in the back garden but its too dark to see anything. The cold spring seems to have put everything back a month or so. Now to carry on ploughing through Farcebook.

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted May 13, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 13, 2021 Good evening everyone Well the cellar is positively heaving with plasterboard and other associated bits and pieces. Ian and I shifted 13 sheets, each 8ft x 4ft, the task taking about 45 minutes all together. We’d just finished putting the last bits in when the heavens opened, so I think someone was smiling down on me this morning. The afternoon was spent tidying up and getting tools ready for fixing the plasterboard up. I had landed on doing this next week, but I had an email saying the camomile plants are ready to be dispatched! So that required a change of plan, Monday I’ll head back to the big orange DIY shed and get the pavers I need and a couple of bags of mortar, I’ll also see if they have any jointing tape and clout nails, as there wasn’t any there today and I don’t think I’ve got enough for the whole ceiling. As I was having a muggertea this afternoon, I got a text message from our local bookshop letting me know that 2 of the 3 books I ordered a couple of weeks ago are now in stock, tomorrow afternoon, I’m off to collect them both. They were able to order the 3rd book I was after directly from HMRS, but as yet that hasn’t been delivered it.

Popular Post iL Dottore
Good Morning... I think.... Yesterday, with the second Moderna jab, despite the nurse nicking a nerve (or so it felt like) and the resulting injection site pain, I thought that It’d be plain sailing like before. WRONG! I trundled off to bed, a little tired and a little headachy, lay down and WHAM! My immune system decided to play with nearly all its toys at once: fever, fatigue, muscle and joint pain, nausea, fast breathing, headache, hallucinations (I dreamt that P Bear was eating a salad I’d made him) and rigors. Not full blown CRS but heading that way... I wasn’t particularly concerned, but it was MOST unpleasant. What was gratifying was that Lucy stayed with me all night and Mrs iD actually brought me a sweet coffee in the morning; an event SO unusual in itself that I was tempted to call Fleet Street and ask the broadsheets to hold their front pages. So on this particular POETS day I have a choice of 1) feeling sorry for myself; 2) feeling really sorry for myself; 3) feeling really, really sorry for myself; or 4) wallowing pathetically in self-pity, unwashed, unshaved and necking a catering sized bottle of McSporran’s cooking whisky... Off to self-medicate my headache Not sure if it’ll be with aspirin, paracetamol or ibuprofen... Enjoy POETS day iD 1
Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all Yesterday was not a good one for technology. I had “fun” trying to play a DVD on my laptop. Disc 1 played OK but Disc 2 was recalcitrant to say the least and I have had more productive half-hours than the one I devoted to grappling with the problem. The eventual workaround was to insert Disc 1 again, wake up the software and swiftly swap the discs. This is probably totally wrong but any better ideas will be welcome in case the problem recurs. The other technology glitch was when the presenter of last night’s Zoom lecture disappeared with only three slides to go. It was fixed, but I am apprehensive given that I am soon to be a presenter on Zoom myself. This bit is held over from yesterday. When the DJ line-up for Radio 1 was announced in the summer of 1967 I was dismayed to learn that Jimmy Young had been given the mid morning show. As the opinionated 19 year old that I then was I campaigned vociferously against this appointment, to the extent of having a car sticker which had the slogan “Jimmy Young Must Go” and a sketch of a lavatory pan. It was to no avail. He stayed. Eventually he became an incisive political interviewer and was knighted. There was even a song written in his honour. I forget who sang it but it might have been Bill Oddie. It went something like this: “We love Jimmy Young Six million housewives can’t be wrong Glory be to the BBC for Jimmy Young” For the record I would have chosen either Tony Windsor or Keith Skues for the housewives’ slot. As it happens I have met both. It was interesting to read Brian’s experience of running the gauntlet to present himself for his Zoladex injection. My next one is due two weeks from today and I must pick up the phone today to find out what Checkpoint Charlene has in store for me. The experience of being left out in the rain until the Stalag door is opened is not new and there is a way to go before it can be considered welcoming and friendly. Continuing warm thoughts to Dave’s Dad and all on the sick list. Best wishes to all. Chris 16 1 1
Popular Post leopardml2341
Morning all - I managed to remember today Typically South Derbyshire grey' again in these parts, and as noted earlier spring feels as though it's not yet arrived, seedlings are still very small. Another keybored day today with an expected high incidence rate of f@@kwittery from certain parts which I won't be able to dodge. Make the most of Friday, and whilst I doubt I'll manage to POETS, a POOTTS is a definite as I have some wood butchering planned....... My alarm sounds and the shower beckons. 'til later. RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted May 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 14, 2021 Good moaning. It's sunny here. Yesterday It rained and was a bank holiday so the guy who's pointing the wall couldn't get his materials and he finished the raking out more quickly than he expected. He then spent the afternoon putting beds together at the house we look after. 3 down 4 to go. The Ikea ones went together well. This morning I'm builders labourer to help a friend put some placko aka platerboard up in another friends house. I'm off to buy placko screws shortly. The houseowner is cooking us all lunch. Sounds good to me. Regards to all. Jamie

Big mishap, yesterday. I was sorting and putting away the afternoon’s Click n Collect groceries, when I dropped a 4pint plastic bottle of milk on the floor... It split open & milk started pouring out. Fortunately, there was a thick hand towel within arms reach and I managed to stop the milk going under the fridge. Close call. But I couldn’t stop the volcano effect of milk flying up and over the cupboards, sink, cooker, hob, and worktop. Ray, on hearing my “NOoooooooo!” came rushing out and while I was down on my hands and knees, he was transferring the rest of the milk into other vessels: 2 Kilner bottles and a small flask - lucky we had those! After cleaning everything up, and rinsing out the milk drenched towel, I finished getting the rest of the shopping away. But then there was another poop! The bread was not sliced (for the fourth consecutive week) despite it saying it was on the barcoded label and no mention of a substitute on the invoice. I then had to slice one of the two loaves which was going in the freezer. Guess I wasn’t the happiest of bunnies. Hoping for a less dramatic day, today. Fitt and Elfie reviewing the situation. Take care all and play safe. ————- Best wishes Polly
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted May 14, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 14, 2021 Whitchurch hospital have decided that they have done all they can for Dad and he is being transferred to a nursing home in Shrewsbury, possibly today. I had a long discussion with the ward sister yesterday and she told me that there is now nothing medically wrong with Dad that they can deal with and that they can see no reason why he shouldn't be able to walk again if he puts his mind to it and tries with the help of physiotherapists. The latter will attend him at the nursing home and he will be there initially on a two week stay, after which his case will be reviewed. If he has made no progress by then we'll have to look for a more permanent placement for him but that would have to be self funded. Unfortunately the nursing home he is going into is the wrong side of Shrewsbury for us so the round trip for visiting will be the best part of two hours. We shall see what the future holds. Apart from that there is nothing of any real interest to report from a grey, damp and generally miserable North Salopshire. Dave

Popular Post The Lurker
Greetings all from Sidcup where it is cool and grey but dry. Younger Lurker has an inset day so has had a lie in but is currently downstairs eating his breakfast in an extremely leisurely, almost lackadaisical, fashion. Elder Lurker is doing what he does best, Lurking in bed. He has now picked up the sore throat etc that his brother had but it seems to have hit him a bit harder (not mixing with anyone for months probably weakens the immune system). Mrs Lurker has taken advantage of the inset day to take the car for her work, which saved her a 3 mile walk this morning. I hope that the move for Dave's Dad turns out to be positive and that the physios can help him to walk again. The inconvenience would seem to be worth it if it does - but note I'm not the one who will be having to do a 2 hour round trip.... Also, hopefully iD will shake off the jab effects soon. No date for my second jab yet, though if I get a moment I might try calling the surgery to see when it is likely to be. Jimmy Young was a radio 2 fixture by the time I noticed. "What's the recipe today, Jim?" followed by "Well, Raimundo..." is about all I can remember. My parents very much controlled radio listening until I had one in my room at about the age of 16, so Radio 1 was very much off the cards. On the other hand, it did allow me to listen to reruns of the Goons, and Round the Horne/Beyond our Ken, as well as Just a Minute and I'm Sorry I haven't a clue, plus the radio adaptations of Lord of the Rings and Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy. have a good day all 19

If he has made no progress by then we'll have to look for a more permanent placement for him but that would have to be self funded . . We had a similar situation with Father-in-Law a couple of months ago. Aged 88, had a stroke 12 years ago but seemed to recover from that until 18 months ago when he had difficulty walking, speech deteriorated and he started to loose his balance and fall over. After further deterioration we had a stair lift fitted, arraigned for carers to visit 3 times a day and he wore an alarm call button on his wrist. Of course he wanted the cheap option of £3 week for the alarm company to call us to go and pick him up (hour and half journey) but we signed him up for the £5 week option so they guaranteed a local response in half hour! He ended up calling them 16 times in 3 months and we know from his lady friend across the road that he had a number of other falls where he was able to crawl to furniture and pull himself up. Just after Christmas he lost his balance getting off the toilet and fell backwards, breaking his shoulder blade on the edge of the WC. He had two weeks in Lincoln hospital, then two weeks rehabilitation at Gainsborough Hospital but got a water infection (catheterised) and went back to Lincoln for a further two weeks. After 6 weeks in hospitals unable to bear any weight on his arm, he couldn't use his walking frame and so was discharged to a nursing home. As you say about your dad - he needs to put his mind to it and want to get better - but before FiL's last fall, Physios had been to his house on a number of occasions, he made a bit of an effort when they were there, but then did absolutely nothing until their next visit when if anything the situation had got worse and not better. The same applied with a Speech Therapist who tried to help him with his speech and getting his words out but again the exercises weren't done despite encouragement from the visiting carers, his neighbour who went round at least twice a day and ourselves who visited every week. All rather frustrating when he wouldn't help himself. The first six weeks in the nursing home were NHS funded as part of a policy to empty hospital beds at the height of the pandemic and although he will be self funded, we don't have much cash until the house gets sold. The Local Authority will fund this under a loan scheme for repayment in the future. We have had to complete a financial assessment form and provide bank statements etc. When he first left hospital we didn't have a choice where he went as not all care homes have NHS contracts or vacancies but it turned out well as he is now back at Grantham in a small home where he is very happy and seems well cared for. In your circumstances at least you now have a bit of time to look for a home that is more local to you and able to meet your Dad's needs. I hope for a good outcome. . 2 1
