RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted May 9, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 9, 2021 (edited) Ey up! Weather forecast now says dry and 15C this afternoon. Wonder if the homecteam today set to to clear their ground of water. Past history is a bit wobbly.. sometimes they do..other times they don't. We will see. We did have a lot of rain yesterday. Bits of our lawn are back under water again having dried out over the last few days. I shall have some breakfast then I may venture out to see to look at the ground as it is fairly close. Have a great day! Lots of positive thoughts to Dave's Dad, Gordon S and anyone else who needs our support Baz Edited May 9, 2021 by Barry O Corrupted post 17 1
Andrew P
This morning the Bright shinny thing keeps popping out from behind some greyish clouds, but no wind, (outside), and so the walk for the Papers and some extra milk will be undertaken shortly. Good day yesterday, as a couple of the Great Grand kids and parents arrive bearing GIFTS = Cream Doughnuts. Diet, what diet? Its the weekend. Have a good day one and all, stay safe and well. 16

Once it's consistently above 20 it will be time to take the cover off and commission it. Not a lot got done yesterday but we had a lovely frittata with 8 of ourcown eggs and some sweet potato, peppers , courgettes, lardons and assorted other veg that needed eating. Our good friend was here with her two rescue dogs, Rosa and Archie. Archie keeps a tennis ball, thats well chewed, here and no matter where it ends up he locates it as soon as he arrives. The market awaits this morning then some unspecified potterring. I may even continue some work on a bridge. Hope to hear good news from the Hunts and Gordon. Regards to all. RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted May 9, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 9, 2021 Went to see Dad at 2130 last night and sat with him until nearly midnight. He was happy to see me but I'm not sure it really helped with his sleeping trouble. Jill is going to see him this afternoon then I'll be going back tonight. We're hoping that the endoscopy he's due to have on Tuesday will indicate some way forward for his treatment. Apart from visiting Dad I managed to get some workshop time in yesterday but managed to make a botch of what I was doing so it will have to be redone today. As our Northern Heights of Leeds correspondent would put it - Pah! Havea good Sunday all and get the loins girded for another week ahead. Popular Post jonny777
Dry and sunny here in North Somerset. The unstoppable destruction aka grandchildren are due to arrive, so no peace for a few hours. I wouldn’t mind so much if they didn’t feel the need to impress me by showing how loud they can shout, how fast they can run in a 13’ x 13’ space, and how well they can jump on the furniture. I’m sure I did not behave like this when I went to my grandma’s 60 years ago. But then, I was not brought up on a diet full of sugary foods and drinks. I am charged with providing ‘burger in a bagel’ for their lunch but they may be forced on a long walk before anything like that materialises. 6 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post The White Rabbit Posted May 9, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 9, 2021 Morning all. A bit of grey cloud, a little sun but no rain, so far so good... I'm feeling a bit achy today, arm and head. A fever late yesterday evening but that seems to have passed. It feels like I have a hangover and fell out of bed while drunk. My sympathies with Dave H. I hope things improve pronto. In terms of historical people having an uncomfortably close experience with molten metal, I've heard of Crassus having molten gold poured down his throat. Molten lead does ring a bell but I can't think who off-hand. I think I'll pass on it myself. Our strawberries are starting to flower. We're a long way from Bedford but they are a plant we've often done well with. Only small fruits but plenty for us and the birds. 17 1 1

It doesn't appear to have been toxicity in the well known (to many of us with an interest in a particular rock off Plymouth) event which killed Henry Hall back in 1755 but far more a consequence of the burning caused by the molten lead as it went down his throat and into his stomach where, according to subsequent examination it had burnt through the stomach lining apparently. But Hall lived for 12 days after ingesting the molten lead (just over 7 ounces in weight when solidified) so he was clearly a pretty tough 94 year old. https://uslhs.org/rudyerds-tower-eddystone 3 12

The unstoppable destruction aka grandchildren are due to arrive, so no peace for a few hours.... You have my sympathies. When I was a wee “grandchild“ it seemed that my grandparents very successfully used a mixture of bribes and threats to keep me and my siblings in line. It was very much a case of “my house, my rules“. Obey the rules and you were rewarded (nay, indulged in), disobey and you would - at the very least - get told off. I have very much been an advocate of “my house, my rules“ especially when it comes to kids. Funnily enough, my friends’ kids had no problems coming over to visit with their parents. I think it was because they knew where they stood with me. Second attempt at a Paris-Brest made today - not too bad. The choux pastry still needs a tiny bit of work and the salted caramel Crème Mousseline could be a wee bit stiffer - but the end is in sight...... Still, it’s a start... Back to the (kitchen) lab, I am determined to get it right before moving on to a GÂTEAU ST.HONORÉ (by order of: SWMBO) Enjoy Sunday iD 17 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted May 9, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted May 9, 2021 Morning all, It seems the UK travel 'industry' is not quite as a sensible when it comes to foreign travel as some of the population ' as they are reportedly asking for various 'amber' countries tobe turned into 'green'. The odd thing about all this is a that Govt - rightly in my view - got considerable stick for not bringing stricter border controls and international travel bans in the early days of the virus but now people who complained about that want them to do exactly the opposite - nowt so daft as (many) British folk it would appear. What nobody seems to be prepared to face is that individual isolation/quarantine is a nonsense when it comes to infection control as anyone who comes through an airport etc then has to travel to their home or whatever and in any case probably then doesn't bother with what they are supposed to do. Rant (almost) over but quite why people 'need' to instantly go abroad when half an opportunity offers is somewhat beyond my understanding. Regular annual events (such as two of our number going to Switzerland at the turn of the year - and with a particular purpose) are one thing but just going overseas to sit on a beach after spending an hour or three in an airborne cigar tube breathing recirculated air strikes me as a very strange form of relaxation. Ah well back to Sunday with some no doubt 'good' sudoku to come later but at least the garden is too damp to do anything to it but it should dry out a bit in the coming week. And no interruptions last night from the muntjacs who sounded as if they were trying to make a baby muntjac out in our front garden. BTW a possible way to mitigate leg cramps at night - as suggested by our GP - is to do some 'warm ups' to stretch the leg muscles before going to bed. Not an infallible method but it does work reasonably well in my experience (but experience has proved that it's no good for arthur's-itis - unfortunately that needs the exercise after it has started. Havea godo day one and all and i do hope the extra family attention is helping Dave's dad although it will take time. 20 1
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted May 9, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 9, 2021 Good morning everyone It's a beautiful sunny day here in England's northwest, but it's far too wet to do any sort of outdoor activity today. Up late again this morning, but the plan is to take it easy, so I'm going to edit all the 'NOTES' I saved earlier in the week and when done, email to myself. I'll then download them back to my iPad. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. Brian
RMweb Premium Barry O Posted May 9, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted May 9, 2021 I won't be travelling overseas this year, but some people are looking for an escape from the uk ..somewhere warm and dry. And, without such holidays, mental health issues will cause even more problems for these people. Strangely enough, if you are rich enough to have a jet airplane bought, leased or trip hired, you can go anywhere.. and from the fight paths I have watched recently people do this.. and some are welcolmed into Australia even... The English IPL players are now back in the UK in isolation.. can anyone else fly straight from India to here? Of course to get to the uk you can fly india..Dubai or Qatar then on to the uk and not own up to having set off from India. Using the bubble betwen two countries (who are not bothered about having vaccinations) could end up in major problems. Either no one flies anywhere ( which should have happened in March 2020) or.. you have to take the consequences of people going away for a break...one or two people from here have already fled to France...so desparate are they to get a holiday... RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted May 9, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted May 9, 2021 Morning all. Best wishes to those unwell or troubled and to the families and friends. Gravity is taking its toll here today. I am very sure there is no instruction anywhere to "lose small pre-glued parts in the carpet" yet several are there somewhere never to be seen again. And glued, yes, meaning they might stay there when I drag the carpet-sniffing device out later. Dr. SWMBO is having a rough time of the weekend. The need to recruit maternity cover for one of her team has occupied too much of the past week meaning she has had to spend many hours of yesterday and today catching up on time-critical work required across the next few days. She has talks to deliver, presentations to present and a budget to argue over. Team member who is about to take maternity leave texted her last night from the hospital - she had been rushed in with various complications. Having lost her first pregnancy only nine months ago to miscarriage this one, which is now at six months, is very precious. She emailed again just now saying she was out, has been told to not return to work and to rest at home until her due date. All is reasonably well, it seems. but there is a god deal of stress and anxiety going on. Dr. SWMBO also has a very dear friend who is in her last days with the Big C and whom she cannot travel (to Bristol) to wave a teary farewell to. We don't know how long she has - no-one can predict that accurately - but we believe it may be a few weeks at best. So more distress there. And as things come in threes we learned this morning of a friend whose sister is also about to depart this life having also acquired the Big C. In her case rather suddenly (or at least she suggested there were no symptoms until very recently) and again with perhaps just a few days left. Whilst we don't personally know the sister our friend found her birthday yesterday suddenly rather less than a happy one. We are of course offering such support as we can from a distance. Yesterday's high winds have lowered a great deal of pollen which means we are both Itchy and Scratchy and very Sneezy. Loratidine is of only limited help but is better than nothing. Camomile tea also helps desensitise the mucous membranes but has a side effect of requiring me to not be beyond range of the porcelain. I am told G*****ing will be required after lunch. I have my doubts. I shall plead Sneezicles of the Flugelschute. Have a good day. Stay well.
