Early Risers.

Passed through Switzerland three times  - in 1984 - to and from a French ski resort. Twice through Geneva airport and once entered Switzerland via a slope called, in all languages, "Oh God!". Skiied an afternoon in the country before exiting via a chairlift and returning to the French side.

On the ski trip the views were non-existent because of thick fog. Had it been clear I don't think I would have tackled "Oh God!" because then I would have seen it before attempting.

Suffice to say that snow got everywhere. Many of us gave good Frosty the Snowman impressions by the bottom.

We don’t eat much cake now but Aditi made some scones the other day as some yoghurt needed using and the flour was just past best before. I suspect these were excuses as we use best before as guidelines to be interpreted. Anyway I have to confess plain scones are probably my favourite cake. Aditi said she was taking the rest of the scones round to the neighbours as she thought they might like a cake. I must have looked sad as I was immediately reassured another batch would be produced.

Been out again, (in the Car this time) and done our duty to the Crown and Country.

 

Back home and just ordered a Summerhouse just need to get a base put down now ready for it in 3 to 5 weeks.

I saw a photo on Twitter of the rear end of a hatchback being used as a temporary polling station. It seemed someone hadn’t come along to open the church hall. We voted when the postal vote arrived. One candidate didn’t send her manifesto out until a few days ago, well after many people would have posted their ballots.

Voting was done this morning; no queues and all very simple. To be fair, our usual polling station is never very busy, just a steady stream throughout the day. SWMBO is still stuck in Basildon hospital, they have been waiting a week for a bed at the Community hospital. It is annoying as the intensive rehab won't start till she gets there. The family suspect that this won't generate much of an improvement, but we need the "experts" to deliver that verdict, with particular reference to the use of stairs.

G'day Afternoon all,

 

I started this postat c.12.30 - went i upstairs to fetch something and returned to find the management had taken over the 'puter. so i had some freshly made soup and then returned to find the cat was sitting here no doubt reading her emails.  We then headed to possibly vote (couldn't park) and on to Tesco; back home shopping dealt with I canme into the study to remove the cat and found the management had in the meanwhile taken over the 'puter (again).  Just got back to it! 

 

Weather rather changeable, allegedly it will be sunny later so we might go and vote then.  Voting should be simple as it is only for one County Council seat and nothing else which would at least save me the effort of defacing my ballot paper were I asked to vote for the person who will spend the next few years commissioning crimes.

 

Ah - 'puter modelling - interesting fun.  Back in the late 1980s/early '90s BR had a computer programme designed to - and very good at - measuring the impacts of perturbation (i,.e. in plain english - train service b*ggered by whatever you cared to tell the software was the b*ggeration factor.  Over the course of about 4 days I had devised and graphed a proposal to provide quadruple track over a 4 mile stretch of the GWML to help handle a major new traffic flow for which i was doing the opeartional planning.  My boss thought my proposal excellent, and fully proven by the graphs, but the relevant business sector wanted it' assessed in greater depth' before asking the external client to spend a good many millions for the job.  So the BR Research folk were brought in to assess my work - it took them nearly two weeks to get all the required geography and data (for a sample hour as far as the timetable was concerned) into the programme then another two weeks to run all the simulations - in that time I could have done all of it on a few graphs and given everyone the results the 'puter churned out because I knew exactly how everything involved would work.  My proposal was duly agreed, the client (not BR) paid for it; it was duly commissioned - it is still there today (now electrified) so it is one of 'my' bits of railway I can look at as I pass in a train and say 'I'm responsible for that being there'.  BTW that 'putrer program ceased to be used a long while back, I could still do with brain and graph paper what I did c.30 years ago, with no need for loads of programming before I do it - KISS.

Many years ago I was drilling through a kitchen tile to fit an upstand for a dishwasher - and hit the cooker cable.  There was a very loud bang and a flash, the drill's earth did its job and blew the fuse.  But the momentary current was enough to melt about 1/2" off the end of the drill bit and I was thrown across the room and banged my head on the opposite wall.  And whilst I immediately realised what had happened I couldn't go and get a replacement length of cable to reconnect the cooker as the shops were closed on Sundays back then.

Oops, forgot to post this morning, rushing about - had to go to the Big City to collect new spectacles first thing - need not have rushed they were running late - very.  Oddly two weeks ago I just walked in and did the deed, today we have to answer cv19 questions, wear a mask, no more than four at a time....yet our CV19 status has not changed, no new cases for 4 days, no restrictions in place elsewhere....shouldn't have gone to Specsavers.  So once again the toy tokens are depleted massively, it has been an expensive month for us.

 

Very windy here, despite the sunshine it is horrible out, 8c feels like 4 according to the seaweed-o-phone. It was 5 feels like 1 first thing, there was snow on high ground too but it had melted by the time I went out.  Salt on the roads again, so the old bikes aren't going out.

We now  have 11 positive test result around here -- and 6 just up the road...I would just like to know who they are.. not by person but by locality or even better .. if we had a connected set of decision makers around here .. why is it happening and what is being done to improve the situation.. Oops .. silly me.. there is me thinking the decision makers actually have  a working, joined up brain cell or two...

 

Next door is now looking like a Stalag Luft escape tunnel.. 8ft high fence put up over the last few days.. more builders rubble put into the front garden.. Council (both councillors and paid employees) not interested at all... and no changes foreseen in our incompetents in charge in Leeds..

Just had the phone call, microchip number 2 installation next Thursday afternoon,

I also have diabetic eye test next Wednesday afternoon.

I also have 2 major equipments due next week... I don't think it's all going to fit in some how.. and it won't be visits to the vet that get missed..

 

Our voting place is the village hall. On all the times I've been there, there has never been a queue, in fact there's only once been another voter and that wasn't today.

 

The vaccination centre is another village hall normally used for voting, but I noticed today they've moved to a very nearby school building for the voting.

 

Early results from FAY look encouraging, FAYs results compared to known true RYA PY numbers are quite close..  I'll add that spreadsheet to my first spread sheet that calculates using PHRF and that added to FAY should provide good evidence to the club handicapper...

 

So I'm converting D-PN to RYA PY, to compare against FAY, and PRHF and when I get a final result I will convert that to BH....Broads Handicap....

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I am avoiding the news today for obvious reasons. All the hype but counting will not all be completed until Monday. I've actually voted twice (by post). Last week I called the electoral registration as I hadn't received my postal vote. They said that they'd put them in the post for me. Ballot papers were received the following morning, filled in and posted. I then received a second lot of ballot papers on Tuesday! I called the electoral registration who confirmed that those were the replacements. The ballot papers that I had received first (and filled in and posted) were the missing originals and they had been cancelled and I should fill in the second ones.

Another quiet one yesterday, today will see a little activity;

Took Mrs to work (they'd asked if she could do a short "help out" today) and I'm scheduled to then take Bob for a visit when I pick her up.

Quick shop on the return from dropping Mrs off, some necessities and not-so necessities.

Bird seed a special requirement. Big box store visited had a nice set of small/micro drivers for $3.99, couldn't pass up the deal

 

Later will be visiting the Mrs nephew to pick up the batteries for the boat and mower, as we're headed to the cabin on Saturday and those items need transporting up there.

Nowt else in play.

 

Weather report -> 3 at BIN time, sunny and headed for 15 later.

Snap! (or Bang!) - the only difference was I stayed where I was after the flashbang.

 

That’s when I found out that, even in a modern house, not all cable runs are horizontal or vertical - some run at 45 degrees.

In general, before you reach a specialist, you have been assessed by a generalist i.e. your family doctor. If that specialist does not think that the problem does involve his area of detailed knowledge, you will be referred back to your family doctor for re-evaluation (perhaps with a suggestion from the specialist of another area to investigate.)

Following a colonoscopy my consultant was a bit concerned that the colon near the appendix looked a bit suspect so just to be safe she organised a barium swallow x ray to check out my small intestine too. This happened and at my next consultant appointment she said she had looked at the x rays and was no longer concerned. Then she started reading the report and was clearly annoyed at the condescending tone of the report. She said this would be where some other consultants would be doing a “do you know who I am?” response. I mentioned he had been really nice to me as a patient so she said in that case she would be kind too!

I was approached once whilst already busy with other enquiries as some suited busybody pushed his way to the front.  After continuing with the matter in hand for a moment and finding himself having to await my attention he tried the "Do you know who I am?" line.  

 

I cheerfully replied "No Sir, I don't" and immediately followed that by asking the several people around me "This chap doesn't know who he is.  Can anyone here help?"  

 

The reply I got from Suited Busybody began with F and ended with You.  To which I replied "And you will have to wait your turn for that, too, sir."  Cue laughter and general murmurs of approval from those I had been dealing with.  Exit Humiliated Suit with Tail Between Legs.

 

In other news it has been BIN day the requirements of which have been suitably attended to.  It has also been Thor's Day though he managed but one strike with his hammer; he managed to send down a mighty torrent of hail for a few minutes with it.  April showers are running late this year.  We apologise for the delay and for any inconvenience caused.
