Pah! Wind seems to have abated as it was making a lot of noise during the night. Not a lot planned for today so.. time for my mugatea methinks! Stay safe! RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted April 5, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 5, 2021 Morning from a cool, 4 degrees, Charente, no snow though. We did get an eadtercegg as a present from the girls in the palace. Some of the G word was mentioned and Beth started to prepare her veg patch. My job was to get a barrow full of fompost from the oldest heap. This is a slow job as the beetle larvae need extracting from each shovel load. Some of these have gone fown very well with the occupants of the palace. The rest go back into the newest compost bin. Breakfast has been had, the girls have been let out and shortly I will be off with the trailer to help move some furniture for the lady who gave us the chickens. Apart from that there is not yet much on the agenda. Regards to all and stay safe. Jamie 22
Winslow Boy
Morning all. Just dipped my toes into the waters RMweb while I carry out my ablutions, that's a shave and a shower to you lot. Then it will be out into the desolute, snow covered plains of Manucopia dragging a reluctant hound behind me to collect the morning paper. Think of me as I struggle through the 0.5 cm, that's 1/8 th " to the oldsters amongst us, of snow.

Leave until dry and then re-drill. Often easier than trying to fill a hole all the way to the bottom. I have used the matchstick in a screw hole quite a few times if a screw doesn’t ‘bite’, but never thought about adding the wood glue. I will remember that for future use. Looks like a fine day so far, but is forecast to be cold and very windy. I don’t think I will be going far, and may have to resort to decorating today. The spare bedroom ceiling needs to be done now that all the prep work has been done. 16

Popular Post jonny777
Dry but cloudy in North Somerset. Temperature not too bad for this time of year (7C) but the real cold air has not reached here yet. I see it is currently -2C at Fylingdales (N York Moors) with a 30mph Northerly wind heading our way. I had a very nice dark chocolate Easter egg from Green & Blacks, which also included a couple of bars of their products, one of which is ginger. I have yet to sample that one; but it sounds an interesting flavour combination. Roasted chicken was excellent yesterday, and leftovers are in fridge waiting to be consumed. As my Ocado delivery ought to bring fresh beansprouts tomorrow, I will leave the chicken chow mein until then, and concoct my version of a vesta chicken supreme for tonight - although it may include a tin of chicken soup to bulk up the stock-based sauce.

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted April 5, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 5, 2021 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Not a lot of trouble from Arthur Itis this morning. Just the usual stiffness and odd ache when I first got up this morning. However his mate Si Attica jumped in when I least expected it. I was bending over to empty the washing machine at the time, I just managed to complete the task and then get upstairs to stretch out on the bed for fifteen minutes. Its still aching a bit but I can feel the nurofen doing its bit now. No snow here yet and we might not get any. Very windy first thing this morning and the wind has deposited a new, empty black sack on my patio. Handy as I will retrieve it and use it to collect any other rubbish that the wind has left behind. Task for today is to move all the stuff removed from the brick shed somewhere else as it conceals the leaky radiator that has caused all the heating problems. Problem is that there is not much space to put it all, the shed has somehow filled up again. 3

But we've been round several times, all sockets clear. Boiler switched off. Checked cupboards in case there's a hidden socket/switch somewhere. Can't see anything. Popular Post BlackRat
Greetings one and all. Suns out and a blue sky (in between clouds) but tiz a bit blowy! Lets hope it blows all the tourists who sneaked down (under cover of darkness....gen!) back home till things ease off a bit. Talking of promotions........ One of my very senior bosses once asked why I hadn't gone for promotion ( I had sorted my exams years ago, shortly after joining the plod). I replied saying that he paid me quite well to ride fast bikes and to shoot stuff. My career being one long adventure.......... happy days! 11 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted April 5, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 5, 2021 Morning. Sunny sur le rock, windy but not wildly so, 5c. Feels like a LOT less! White Wabbit - immersion heater? Spur to a garage? Not sure what the day will bring, we're both a bit creaky after that archery round yesterday, the boggy uneven going takes its toll on our arthritic hips, knees and anything else really. The task de al jour is rebuilding my sofa, the cloth suspension at 'my' end has collapsed, despite my recent considerable weight loss! As we like the furniture we are going to try to repair it with webbing stapled in place, but that may need some woodworking too. We'll see. Tonight's missive may be from sitting on the floor. Mrs H has a recliner throne thing that matches, I'm not allowed in that. No new Covids yesterday, it is setting down now thankfully. I think we're reaching the 'just get on with it' phase soon.
Andrew P
Well its twenty to 11, the BBC still say we have Snow due at 11, and its turned into a glorious morning here now. Its still pretty cold, but the Sun is streaming into the lounge and the heating is off. I knew the BBC could not be relied on to tell the truth. Almost 11 and time for coffee and Black Forest Gateau. well it is a Bank Holiday, after all. 15
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted April 5, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 5, 2021 Morning all. The precipitation here just about qualifies as snow I think. It isn’t very warm out so I don’t think we will be having cups of tea on the patio today. Tony 16 1

How old is the cable, if it's solid core plastic insulated, it's unlikely to be the cable, but I have seen screws work lose on the back of a socket causing heat damage by arcing. Also the items you plug in, check the wires in those too, again wires can come lose and cause a short to earth, even if the socket is switched off as you are only switching the live wire off. 5 8

Depending on your competencies, it might be worth measuring to see if there's any voltage across E/N. Assuming a usual TNC or TNCS system there should be no measurable potential difference. As well as detecting stray residual current, an RCD will also trip if there is a measurable potential difference of about 2V (iirc) between N/E. 5 6
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted April 5, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 5, 2021 (edited) Good morning all, Late on parade but never mind. Dull here with a hint of blue sky peeping through in the East but showers are forecast. It's a cool 6°C here at the moment so our decision to move Nicki's birthday BBQ from today to yesterday was the right one. We spent a very pleasant 7 hours in the garden although it did get a bit chilly early evening. The chef seemed to get things right and didn't set fire to any food, fencing, sheds, Astroturf or himself. It was great to see Nicki ,Darren (her new man) & kids in person after quite a long wait and everybody declared the day a success. Still a bit of clearing up to do as we were up late. I'm aching all over but mainly in the undercarriage, probably because according to my "mileometer" I walked about two and a half miles around the garden yesterday! Nothing much else planned although the BBQ will have to be cleaned but I think I'll save that for tomorrow. The car needs a wash as well but as rain is forecast that can wait too. Still got some rugby to watch but I've just seen Quins result and I'm not really in the mood for a horror movie. Have a good one, Bob. RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted April 5, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 5, 2021 G'day all, The weather is an interesting (not really) mixture. The earlier 10% chance of rain was definitely less than 10% if the distance between teh rain spots was any guide - more like 1% coverage rather than anything more. currently we are ona 50% chance of rain but the lad has just returned from town to claim that he saw some snowflakes (the weather type that is) although up here we didn't get any (we do have strange weather patterns locallly at times.). Anyway the promised sunshine is retimed later so no brick laying activity will now take place today - which is just as well as far certain arthritic bits of me are concerned. But now the sun has emerged -what a day of typical bunk-ff holiday weather. No other items of import and I would agree with various previous comments about the search for electrical gremlins particularly checking sockets but also making sure you've found everything on that circuit. One awkward possibility - which floored me for an hour or two in our previous house until I eventually found it - is if some previous owner of the property had added a spur to a ring circuit just where you wouldn't expect one. Alas for a 'safety officer' in a fissile nuclear material manufacturing plant our predecessor in that house had some very strange ideas about alterations to domestic electrical circuits. Have a good day one and all and may your weather brighten if it hasn't already.
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted April 5, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 5, 2021 Good afternoon everyone Up quite early for a change this morning, but certain important tasks got in the way of my posting earlier. No snow or rain here, but it was cold, 1C when I got up currently 4C. Anyway, currently taking a break in the sunshine, sat on the bench under the workshop window with a muggertea. More path removal taking place, hopefully by the end of the day I'll have done another 6ft or so. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. RMweb Premium TheQ Posted April 5, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 5, 2021 Currently blowing 40mph north Easterly, sunshine and scattered showers, except when I go out.. First trip out it was snowing, last trip out with Ben the I'm fine down here sheltered by the earth bank Collie, I got caught by a horizontal hail storm. Two layers of shelving installed with very expensive Collie models now on it. More shelving painted, more shelving situations approved by domestic authorities.. I tried to drill holes for the jockey wheel attachment bracket.. I don't know what steel he used for the main chassis bars but it ate my 10mm drill bits and several smaller pilot hole sized bits, and I haven't completed one hole yet., The quality ones I bought a couple of weeks ago are 14mm upwards. I've ordered a set of top quality cobalt drill bits 1 mm to 13 mm ouch that was expensive. When I finish my muggacoffee I'm going for a long soak in the bath. 4 days of physical work is painful wear on the body. Bye for now. 1
