Batteries are dangerous in household waste. When the blade in the back goes in to pack mode to compact the waste they can become crushed and explode setting the load of waste on fire. Not withstanding the fact if tgey do fo to landfill heavy meatals can leach out of them. Although modern landfill sites are lined with various geotextile linings to prevent leachate escaping the cells of the landfill site 5 3 9
brianusa
Trust you are all flying the flag after the official words on the subject. Over here the flag is much more prevalent than it is/was in the UK and it is bandied around every time patriotism is mentioned, even by the bad guys. See recent riots! simontaylor484
I have seen the load dumped in the street like the article and once the fire service have soaked it through it takes some shifting especially if there is 10 tonnes of waste when it was dry Edited March 24, 2021 by simontaylor484 Spelling 12

Bear suspects that the cheapo bog standard "Zinc Carbon" batteries probably do, though I'm not sure about alkaline ("Duracell" or similar) batteries. As for such projects for children though, I suspect that such things are considered far too dangerous nowadays - even if you could manage to tear them away from their ipads.... 52 minutes ago, simontaylor484 said: I wont say too much on here about it but a lot of this centres around the BBC. I've not seen any news on the subject (has there been developments today?) but I suspect the vast majority wouldn't pay if they could avoid it. Personally I don't have too much of a problem with paying for a TV licence (I get my money's worth); as for charging the over 75's for a licence - would it not make sense to make it means-tested? If you can afford it then why not? Bear ducks for cover now.... In other news: Bear is expecting a visit from Nurse Covid tomorrow, which is handy as it means another voucher. I've been keeping an accurate account of what I've been spending on the kitchen refurb (and what on) and I did a sub-total on Monday and scared myself Whilst that does include the cost of the kitchen units, I've still to add the cost of the worktops (I'd like Granite...), oven, hob, dishwasher, sink & tap plus various other items (wall tiling, timber etc.). I have a reservation for the wallet in ICU.... 3

Popular Post Erichill16
Evening All, Hope all is well with all as I’ve been busy all day and haven’t had time to catch up. Busy not doing jobs that you get paid for, just the ones that are a pia. Finished day off with a professional zoom meeting, dull in some parts and interesting in others. The skill sets that you need to do the job now aren’t the ones I learned at university. Such is progress. In all the years I’ve been qualified I’ve never been asked to mould my own suppositories, determine whether a particular sample of digitalis power conforms to its BP monograph or extract opium from poppies. Need a good nights rest as not been sleeping too well so I’ll bid you a goodnight, Robert 6 1

Popular Post monkeysarefun
The last of the covid restrictions in NSW get lifted on Monday, (other than being unable to leave the island!) so we can once more have people stand annoyingly close to us in queues, do white guy dancing at nightclubs and weddings, and wonder what to do with all the colour co-ordinated face masks we bought. RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted March 24, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 24, 2021 For the first time in ages I dozed off whilst watching the haunted fish tank this evening., which brings two thoughts to mind: the quality of what's on TV is generally dire; and maybe some formal eyelid inspection is called for. I can't do much to influence the former but can and shall forthwith attend to the latter. G'night All. Dave 12 2 7

Popular Post andyram
Evening all. A very quick check in. I would stay longer, but all this recycling talk has made ER’s a bit rubbish. Hat, coat, gone (before anyone talks anymore complete garbage). Sorry...I just can’t help myself....someone has to fill the waste land before anyone writes any more trash. And please do not accuse me of recycling old jokes. I did have the necessary problem-solving skills and thought process though. 18
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 24, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 24, 2021 Evening all from Estuary-Land. BIN day tomorrow so I'll put the bags out last thing before I go to bed. As it will be after midnight it will be quite legitimate as the rule is before 07:30 on the day of collection. Two pink sacks this week, one full of old magazines.
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted March 24, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 24, 2021 Good evening everyone The sun stayed out all day and it was quite warm when I did go out, but that was only to clean off my tools, brush, bucket and mop. Anyway, the last of the tanking has been done and there isn’t much of the powder left over, probably about 0.75 - 1kg. It looks rather ridiculous in the bottom of a 25kg drum, so I’ll have to find a smaller container in which to store it. The tanking was finished before dinner, as was the cleaning of the brush and tools. After dinner, I cleaned off some of the shelves and moped the floor, I definitely won’t get into trouble like I did last week, for leaving dusty footprints everywhere. Below are a couple of photos of the aforementioned section of wall. Here’s what it looked like last Monday. The same section of wall this afternoon. For some reason, I can only insert the photos in a very small format! The next big job is to bring down the ceiling. But, as I mentioned earlier this week, that will have to wait a bit until there is more room to take delivery. Although, Ian now has a van, so I could possibly get him to to take me, pick up the plasterboard and help me with getting into the cellar. Obviously, only when households are allowed to know mix again. Just to prove that all areas are different when it comes to recycling, in our area, we can recycle all tetrapak and waxed card cartons.

Over here the flag is much more prevalent than it is/was in the UK I wasn't quite sure what you meant until I saw the blog post by @Coombe Barton and the link there. (I did see the flap over the BBC's annual report.) I am amused to learn there is a Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. The flag flying guidance is fun. Quote Where UK Government buildings have more than one flagpole, and two flags are being flown, the Union Flag must always be flown in the superior position which is either: the highest flagpole the centre flagpole where there is an odd number of poles of the same height or; the left centre flagpole viewed from the front of the building, where there is an even number of poles of the same height. It is slightly different from the US flag flying guidance, which stipulates that the position of superiority has no flag to the flag's right. From the US Flag Code: Quote (f) When flags of States, cities, or localities, or pennants of societies are flown on the same halyard with the flag of the United States, the latter should always be at the peak. When the flags are flown from adjacent staffs, the flag of the United States should be hoisted first and lowered last. No such flag or pennant may be placed above the flag of the United States or to the United States flag's right. It is normal to see three flagpoles at most corporate campuses. When they are the same height, when viewing the building, from left to right, the flags are usually the US flag, state flag, and a corporate flag. When I first came to the US, it did surprise me to see the national flag displayed (usually on a freestanding pole) in churches. Viewed from the pews, it is normally on the left side of the sanctuary. There will often be a denominational flag on the right side. The evolution of flying the Australian national flag has changed considerably. After Federation, private citizens were only permitted to fly the Red Ensign since the blue ensign was reserved for governmental use. As a child I would see the national flag at the post office and by then schools were permitted to fly the blue ensign as well. Things have changed substantially since those days and the Australian flag is almost as ubiquitous in Australia as the US flag is here.
