RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted March 24, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 24, 2021 We recycle what we can, glass, paper etc into local bins in the village. The rest goes into the only bin we have, there is some sorting I think at the refuse centre, the rest goes in to what we are told we have to call the 'energy from waste' plant, we're not allowed to say incinerator for some reason. A friend works there so we have had a tour, it is quite impressive in terms of pollutant control and recovery. It also keeps the island in electricity overnight. Pfizerisation has its fangs in to me now, everything in this body that has ever been damaged or is a bit worn is complaining loudly. I don't care, it is worth it for the long term protection from serious infection. I may need to defrag myself. Tank is working away on the canopy, nearly finished now - yay, we'll never need to paint it again! Then he will be doing a few more slabs on the various paths and patios. Hard worker, and its for mates rates too which is nice - we supported his Mrs through a traumatic experience recently which he is grateful for, she and Debs used to work together some time ago so we've known them a long time. 16

However where I reside, within the sprawling metropolis of 'Manucopia' there are collection points to which we can take such items. This does highlight the hotchpotch nature of recycling and the poor recycling rates though. Bear also has access to recycling bins for electrical items...but that means going to the local dump...with nails everywhere.... 53 minutes ago, Gwiwer said: Good morning from the House of Fun. The next train at platform 4 will stop at London Waterloo only. Please cross to platform 10 for the next train stopping at Vauxhall. The hand mike is not working. All announcements will be made by text message Not long before Bear retired there was a significant power-outage in the area - so office lights, desktops, security doors etc etc. were not working. HR were sending out regular updates on the situation - via email..... Dean the Tiler is working his magic - just the last few tiles going down, which required Bear to trim the Bathroom door frame architrave for a neater job (it allows the tile to go under the moulding rather than be trimmed as best as is possible to match the wobbly profile. Bear has had a "Multi-function Tool" for 5+ years (maybe 10?) and this is the first time I've ever used it. Worked so well and made the job so easy - it'll get used a lot more now. Youtube has plenty of videos on their capabilities; mine was a Lidl/Aldi (Workzone brand) purchase and appears fine (based on 5 minute's usage...). Must stock up on a few extra blades. Update: Floor Tiled and looking far better than Bear had hoped, especially bearing in mind the wonky floor at the start. A couple of hours tomorrow to do the grout and that'll be finished; Bear has some grout protector liquid on order which should help prevent discoloration, though I specifically chose a fairly dark grey colour to start with. Then it'll be painting the walls; mucho protection (thick polythene sheet and dust sheets) will be laid over the new floor first though.

RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted March 24, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 24, 2021 We have a "Recycling and Energy Recovery Centre" in Leeds recycling and Energy .. nothing new.. they used to heat block of flats in Billingham using a similar process years ago. What they do do in Leeds is to do random checks on people recycling bins... if you have the wrong items in there... ouch! a fine is thrown at you. Interesting morning so far.. Shark has been used to move dirt and dust from floors to the black bin, parcel received full of bits required to finish some projects, next door have been re-arranging the rubble in the garden, been booked to umpire two warm up games in April (we are using the same guidance as last season, ball/hands to be "sanitised" every 6 overs, no changing facilities, take your own food and drink etc. Good to be able to remember the Laws etc.. Sunny with a very chilly wind here. Baz 19

Winslow Boy
3 hours ago, New Haven Neil said: Morning. Sunny but windy. I won't go any further. Mention of nuclear recycling brings to mind the irony of a family we know well. The lady's father was Director of the National Physical Laboratory for 14 years, and he was involved in the development of nuclear power in the post war period. His Grandson, about to enter University, wants to be involved in......nuclear decontamination. What goes around. The whole family are incredibly intelligent, really top 1% people, (yet they are good friends - must have strange tastes!) so I have no doubt he will 'do his bit' in the future. Recycling here depends highly on DIY, as kerbside collections were a failure when trialled in the Big City, probably due to lethargy which is a local issue - they want everything done 'by Government' for them. Everything here is the civil servant's (in the broad meaning) fault, as they begrudge every single 'government' employee a wage. A local trait. So they think a civil servant (refuse collection operative in this case) should sort through their rubbish to pick out recycling matter, as they 'do nothing else'. #sigh# Unfortunately you are not alone. I to have had the misfortune to experience the same. Whilst not wishing to stray into what could be termed as 'choppy waters' all I will say is that it seems to prevelent in areas where a certain socioeconomic group reside. 6

True story about recycling; I once had my bin rejected at time of collection so, as the cart had to come back past my house (I lived in a cul-de-sac at the time), I fagged it down and asked why. The response be@@@@ed belief: "It's got garden waste in it", the driver said, indicating an empty 5l container of a lawn feed! Despite the face that it had the "2 in a triangle" recycling mark moulded into the base, the driver stood his ground! I emptied the entire contents of the bin into a refuse (that's refffuse rather than reeefuse!) bag and took it to the local tip as household waste. Given the tip was run by Viridor, I guess they probably sorted the stuff anyway! 8 1
RMweb Premium polybear Posted March 24, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 24, 2021 Bear recalls a programme (Panorama?) where they traced "recycling" to a farm? in India? where tons of it had been buried. Some items were recovered and traced back to the original households, as they had failed to remove names & addresses from letters etc. Those households had put the paper into the recycling boxes....the contents of which ended up buried on a farm half way across the world. The council, suitably embarrassed, were going to "investigate" how this happened.... 1 10

Unfortunately the 'b..........s' started breading and now there's more of the 'b............s. I wonder if we could cull them to reduce there numbers. It has a picture of a big cactus rather than a camel though. The biggest sand dunes I have driven through were home to neither camels nor cacti. Those at Hayle in Cornwall are among the largest in Europe. It used to be necessary to drive a very sandy track (called "Sandy Lane" with stunning originality) to reach the cricket club. If one carried on beyond there - risking the greasy parts of the car somewhat - the lane became a bumpy track which emerged into the chalet-ville of the holiday camps. The old Mk.2 Escort made that trip many times. Best not to ask why 12 4
Pacific231G
Dull and grey in W. London today. A bit brighter when I went out for my morning walkies (aka essential exercise) I recooked some Chili for dinnner last nigh and made some guacamole but it was a bit more than I wanted so this morning had the remainder on a Tortilla with the rest of the guacamole with an egg on the top make it count as breakfast. I was though wrong about that being an accepted Mexican breakfast but it was v. tasty. 16
