Evening all from Estuary-Land. Checking my cupboards I found a jar of honey that had gone sugary. I've placed it (with the lid firmly on) in some hot water and its partially gone back to normal. I'm not sure what to do with it, perhaps use it as a substitute for suger or treacle in a bread pudding?

Thats what I have done. Honey is the only foodstuff that does not go 'off'. It can be kept at normal temperatures for literally years. It can also be used as an antiseptic.

Good evening everyone 

 

The weather has been a bit mixed today, mostly sunshine but a few showers throughout the day. We had a couple of heavier downpours this evening. 

 

Over the last few days we’ve been constantly bombarded with leaflets asking if we want to sell your house? No we fecking don’t, needless to say these go straight in the recycling bag. 

 

This morning I was invited by the NHS to play poo sticks, always a joy, but this one’s over 6 months late! Down to Covid? 

 

I forgot t mention yesterday that in information leaflet inviting me to complete the census arrived, so I completed it as nothing will change between yesterday and next Sunday. 

 

Well my workbench is a little tidier and I’ve got room to work on those small gearboxes now! A start has been made, but only a start, most of my day has been spent looking for my servo tester, with fruitless results. I’ve obviously put it in a safe place, but can’t remember where that safe place is, you can bet your bottom dollar that if I buy a replacement, the missing one will turn up! There’s one set of drawers that I haven’t yet checked, so I’ll do that sometime next weekend, as tomorrow I’ll be spending indoors with Sheila, well it is her day tomorrow isn’t it?

 

Honey also works well on burns, it reduces pain and the itching and tightness of the skin that can follow (as recommended by Sheila) and helps the tissue to heal, leaving almost no trace of the burn!

6 3/4 near solid sleep, that had followed a long eyelid inspection earlier...I needed that.

 

Forepaws complaining slightly, more stiff than anything else. Back not to bad, although I tweaked it yesterday...putting my boots on..

 

On Ben's walk yesterday, down on one of the muddy bridal paths, I noticed bits of card board somewhat muddy and crumpled. From the tracks someone took something unsuitable down the bridle path, tried to get unstuck from the mud and had to get a tractor to pull them out.. I hope the farmer charged a suitable amount to rescue someone illegally using his land.

 

Plans for today,

Shelves and after that, if the weather has calmed down, some trailer work.

 

Time to...err umm..do nothing for another hour.

Morning all. We had a rather wet and windy day yesterday but I got my wallpapering done and tomorrow  will paint that area.  

 

Today we are due to start with a video call to our daughter, her wife and of course young Emily. This has been delayed for a day due to mothers day.  We had a phone call from No 2 son last night which is a rare but welcome event. Apparently  he was a tad late posting his card.

 

After the video call we are invited to share fresh scones with some friends in honour of the birthday of one of them. Then we are heading to another friend's  for lunch..  not a bad day in prospect.

Greetings one and all

 

A bitty sort of day followed the fodder run which was accomplished by 9 am.  Inspiration came nowhere close to striking so Sunday lunch will be steak.  It is quick and easy though not exactly bargain basement.  Later in the day I was most grateful to receive tuition from Barry on how to set up a Zoom gathering and invite participants.  No doubt such hi-tech activities come as second nature to many gentle readers but I am often baffled by what to some is the bleeding obvious.  How many of us had even heard of Zoom a year ago, much less come to rely on it to maintain at least some vestige of social activity?

 

Unless I have omitted to make a vital entry, my diary does not indicate much to occupy me in the week ahead.  Wednesday evening sees a gathering of Area Group, enabled by Zoom, and on Friday there is to be a meeting of the editorial board of the HMRS Journal.  Due no doubt to a fit of the vapours or some such affliction, I can't remember who else is on it but I'm sure they do all the work.  It is a sign of the times that up to a year or so ago no-one would heve even contemplated a meeting in the early evening of Friday.  With nothing else to distract me, in theory I should be able to make some progress on outstanding tasks.  Yeah, right.  One thing that is perilously close to happening is me picking up the phone and calling Stalag Surgery.  It will depend on how painful my knees are tomorrow morning.  Wish me luck.

Garden awash.. next door refuse to pump their dwarf wall foundations out as it is our fault ... erm our garden is lower than there garden.. still he is a bathroom fitter apparently so water must flow uphill.

 

Not a lot to do today. We think youngest Herbert may call by to drop off a Mothers Day card. Dr Eldest Herbert remembered to post one. This is something of a miracle of sorts.

 

Time to.. drink my mugatea..

About the only thing I have missed is the opportunity for holidays (usually to Italy) and various expeditions to certain "happenings" with names like ExpoEM, Railex and Scaleforum.

No doubt such things will be available again, though I don't foresee any foreign holidays for Bear this year - apart from the obvious risks to health (hopefully diminishing as the vaccine take-up grows) I don't fancy getting into a complete bundle with everyone else scrabbling for a holiday, particularly as Bear predicts that many providers will be kicking the ar5e out of prices as they seek to recover lost profits.

Bear has a kitchen floor covered in floor tiles...those tiles would be much better if they were in the bin.  Any ER'ers care to assist?  Thought not....

I may be reaching for the Honey by the end of the day, as bad paws are predicted.  Today may also see the last available day for a "proper" din dins, as buddy next door is due to assist with the removal of various kitchen appliances into the front room (that's a working-Bear term for "Lounge" or even "Sitting Room", more commonly used by the higher classes of Bear).  But this Bear can fix a puncture on a push-bike.....

A dry and sunny start in North Somerset. Gone are the gales and heavy showers of the last couple of days. 

 

The water butt is still leaking, but not as much as before. I think a new one will be necessary.

Having not been active on ERs for a few days I haven't up to now congratulated NHN so please accept belated ones Neil.

 

Not a lot to report from North Hipposhire apart from the sort of meteorology others have mentioned and the fact that a fair amount of life is being conducted via Zoom. I have tentatively booked for a couple of reunion events in late June based on the advertised 'road map' out of Covidland but am not at all sanguine about the likelihood of them actually taking place; the apparent slight upswing in infections being not really a particularly good sign. I also have some things to do connected with a friend's railway and modelling activities because of his illness but can't achieve anything until restrictions ease.

 

Bright spots? Well, the men in white finally proved yesterday that they can occasionally play rugby but since their chances for the crown have evaporated I am also cheering on the men in red in the hopes that they can achieve the grand slam. Then, after watching the rugby Jill and I enjoyed a rather nice beef Stroganoff a la Hairy Bikers accompanied by a toothsome Malbec.

Morning.

 

Once again my thanks for all the good wishes for the recent annual rotation completion and welding anniversary.  Warms the heart in these bleak times.

 

John CB '.....the smoke detector's second job as a cooking timer...' absolutely cracked me up!  After the last 6 months trials ours is getting less use, now that I am getting used to this house husband lark.  Just as well it is mains powered. Ahem.

 

Which leads me on to enjoying one's own company.  I did at first after the stresses of losing the business and all that goes with it and was glad to do so, having all day to myself as Mrs NHN is out to work 5 days 7am - 6pm  (or was...   )....but hadn't realised how much I would miss the staff banter (they were/are friends as well as staff) and now the weekly old farts bike club breakfast morning.  First lockdown Debs was working from home so this didn't kick in, but now I am really feeling it, and actually getting a bit down about it. I accept now I need a it of blokey companionship every now and then - I didn't think I did.  I'm a gregarious soul at heart.

 

Zoom/Teams is certainly something that has come in to our lives recently, in Debs case as she was using to work from home, and then interviewed using it too.  Nice top on, raggy old jeans out of view, just as well she wasn't asked to stand.    This week even IT-phobe NHN has enjoyed being in a zoom meeting with friends - wonders will never cease.  OK, I give in, I'll use it!

@polybear my skills in conducting "interview without coffee" means I can get him to realise what a complete skilless eediot he is without stating it directly. ( this process was perfected over the years snarling consultants.. and was started by my first group leader who sat me fown and should me how to "win without aggression".)

Ask him if he worked in Essex about 30 years ago. What I replaced in the bathroom yesterday was quite creative but really bad work.
