Morning all from Estuary-Land. No comment about THAT interview except perhaps. Will have to sort out some paperwork as tomorrow I will be sorting out my will (on-line). My old one is a bit out of date now and I can't even find the copy I have somewhere. Newspapers have arrived so there's sudoku and crosswords to do first, be back later.

Good morning everyone 

 

Well yesterday’s sunshine didn’t last long, it’s p!ssing it down out there. Thankfully I’ll be spending the day in the cellar, but I won’t be doing any sort of constructional DIY work, instead I will be sat at my computer designing a mother’s day card for Sheila. We both agreed quite some time ago on a budget (£3-£4) for cards such as these, because we don’t save them, they all get recycled after the event! This was mainly down to having to sort out to stuff from both Sheila parents and her grandparents houses when they passed, it was heartbreaking just chucking boxes and boxes of their keepsakes, so we’ve decided to spare our own children that task. Up until now it has been easy enough to manage, but at the moment, under the present restrictions, getting a card under budget is impossible, they are either cheap tat, or overpriced tat, so I’m making my own. I’ve got plenty of nice photos taken of the garden, I’ve got plenty of plain white card and plenty of imagination, I may be some time!

 

We won’t be watching the Harry and Megan show tonight, can’t be @rsed with all the bleating it all.

Morning all. A few days of posts to read after spending most of the weekend digging out a bay in the the manure pits at the allotments ready for our supplier to start refilling it. I was hoping for a bike ride today but a bit wet and misty over the Dark Peak at the moment so will see what the afternoon brings.

I have given up walks and bike rides at the weekends since the Covid rules started as we are getting swamped by numpties from 100 miles around. A few weeks ago we had scoucers travelling over the Main Watershed to have a look at the snow. Lots had to be guided back off the hills by Mountain Rescue volunteers. Three from different households were fined for breaking the rules after writing off a Boy Racer vehicle near Bamford.

I gave up on the lottery after a price rise. I calculated that my usual entry in the National Lottery and Euromillions compared with my winnings was costing me a lot of funds that could be diverted to the muddling account.

Greetings all from Sidcup where it is grey and cool. There was quite a heavy frost overnight. There are 10 pages since I last posted on here so I have not tried to catch up with them.

I have no intention of watching the interview. Once again it is someone thinking that they can paint their own picture of themselves and other people, but woe betide any one who wants to put a different story across. 

 

The weekend passed in its usual fashion these days. Goodness only knows what might happen if I am allowed to do something different. I will probably fail to out of inertia!

 

Younger Lurker has a covid test on Wednesday and then is back in school full time on Thursday. He is not looking forward to that. I took the car from a bit of blast as it has only been driven once since before Christmas and that was only for a couple of miles. It had a battery warning message which has now gone. I suspect that I will have to give it some more longer journeys once it resumes school drop offs etc.

 

Other than that there is not a lot to report so have a good day all

Morning all,

 

we definitely will not be watching the Oprah show - for a start it clashes with  'Only connect' and University CXhallenge' and secondly we have little interest in, or respect for,  a petulant Z list actress has been who couldn't manage a job she had volunteered for and who spins more yarns than the average cotton mill.  

 

Now back to the real world and it's a grey day again but no precipitation expected yet.  There will be an exercise period in the Tesco car park for me while herself searches out various much needed items some of which are needed for tonight's chosen dinner menu.  Having had a rather nice stir fry last night there seemed to a unanimous vote for a repeat this evening so some extra veg is needed but a change from beef to chicken is being met from the freezer.

 

Alas the surveyor's report has put the lad right off his latest intended flat purchase.  It seems that the ground rent and maintenance fees haven't included maintaining the roof which the surveyor has found to be in a poor (i.e. very expensive upcoming repairs or massive increase in ground rent) state.  maybe it will be third time lucky have had two fall through following tales of woe from the surveyor.  The GD is attending some sort of meeting in Oxford so that might to herald reopening of the elective sutrgery orthopaedic ward which has seemingly now been mentioned as a possible for this week.

 

No other major, or even minor, plans for today and from the study window the hedge looks fairly respectable except for the end I gave minimal attention to because the small birds like to get inside it.

I've just been attending a Zoom committee meeting for our local Probus club and we were talking about tentatively resuming meetings in July or August. The President is a retired consultant surgeon so his opinion on how things are going seems somewhat better informed than the average and he is fairly optimistic that we are beginning to see the light at the end of a long, dark tunnel. Let's hope that he is right and it isn't the 6.15 coming the other way.

 

Time to get back on the straight and narrow diet-wise again methinks so that in a few months I will be able to get into clothes other than stretch jeans and loose sweaters! Getting on the bathroom scales this morning was depressing.

 

Must go now as the workshop calls - not for modelling, sadly, but for fixing the back door locking mechanism. It;s a split, stable door type arrangement so the mechanism is a bit complicated involving pushrods, catches, cranks and other arcane bits of the locksmith's art.

Readers may be interested to know that despite his proclaimed intention of immediately going off to do a useful domestic task, he's been spotted reading another RMWeb thread. Should Jill be informed?

Aditi is a committee member for her French Circle and also attends a local art and design group. The membership of both groups is made up mainly retired people. Although the legal restrictions on meetings are due to end in late June the guidelines will remain but no one knows how long for. The venue where the French group meet normally would have 20 to 30 people present but would be able to have 6 under social distance guidelines. Also the French group host their guest lecturers overnight and many may not be willing to travel. They think the formal lectures may continue online but outdoor social events may be possible. The Art and Design group which has much larger audiences has had to move anyway and the new venue should be easier to manage.  
On a positive note my small nieces went back to school this morning. They have been really looking forward to returning.

That is a nice try, but you will still be able to watch it after those two programmes by switching over; unless, like me, you have an interest in cooking and wish to see the second week of contestants in Masterchef.

Afternoon all.

 

The employer has finally got around to offering "all" staff lateral-flow tests starting today.  Except that they haven't.  Bookings opened for three locations and a fourth was added "due to demand" but bookings were only allowed from train crew and their managers.  Today we got an email "blaming" schools as the testing kits have not arrived and have allegedly been redirected to schools instead.  

 

I'm not sure where to stand on this one because with schools back there is a need to determine if there is any spread of infection (rather than whether there is infection - because most children seem to be asymptomatic or at worst slightly unwell) but frontline transport staff have been in the thick for a year now with no tests readily available and far from all have been vaccinated.  

 

The diplomatic thing is to assume "no position" and let things work themselves out but I have a duty of care within my contract - and morally - to myself, my colleagues and my customers (passengers if you prefer) to know whether I am fit and safe for duty.  

 

Answers on a postcard, please.

Hmmm......Bear needs to do that too.  Not finding the old one has some issues, cos' if you can't find it then those that'll need it will no doubt struggle even more.

Whoever made the decision to stop the vaccine deliveries should be sacked - that's being petty beyond belief - "We don't like you winning so we'll take the ball away until we've scored a few more"

Bear gave up years ago after deciding some of the causes the money was being donated to was less than deserving.  Bear would like to see a system whereby the player can decide where they would like their money to go, for example (and I'm making these up as I go along):

Option 1:  NHS

Option 2:  Cancer Research

Since starting my course of antibiotics my tooth is much better but the effects on my digestive system are really nasty. Aditi assures me that the North Indian advice for this is plain rice, dal, and yoghurt. Amazingly calming. I often eat dal and rice because we like it but do appreciate its dietary benefits today as well. MiL would suggest adding a chilli but we decided not to on this occasion.

I wont be watching i think she is trashy mm lets move to tge US cos i want privacy but we will do a big reveal all interview. As far as im concerned shes no different to Katie Price (who was better looking when she was Eddie Jordan)

Thanks for that Bear, it will be handy as I am using a will service rather than a solicitor.

I went to Tess Coes a little earlier and I had to go to the customer service counter and while I was there I checked in my Euro-lottery tickets and I won £3:80 whoopee. Yesterday I went to pick up an old map of New York city that I had agreed to purchase for £10. It is enormous, about 2' by 3' in a nice frame 1/20,000 scale. I had a good look at it a little while ago and I realised it was printed on velum! I don't know how old it is but it shows all of the elevated lines and streetcar lines that had gone by about 1960.

3.5”, 1.44Mb. Initially when asked I just said I was busy and our manager went on to the next person. Basically the person who went was the last person to answer the email. The manager did ask “just out of interest, what are you doing that day?” when I thought up the formatting excuse. He did say that we had a machine for bulk formatting.

Though none of the Queen's other great-grandchildren (apart from those of Prince William, understandably so as he stands to become team captain at some point) have titles either).  Harry's next rugrat will also be eligible to stand for President of the USA, as chances are that she will be born in the USA.  Wonder how that would go down with the rest of the Royals if she ever pulled it off....

 

A Good Day for Bear.  Door frame and pipe both finished (= last coat of paint) and lining paper started; so far so good - none hung upside down or back to front (actually it does have a "front" face, which apparently gives a better finish when being painted.  Nice stuff to hang - bl00dy strong, and paste-the-wall too, so Bear didn't end up in a sticky mess wrapped in wallpaper.  More papering tomorrow....
