RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted March 1, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 1, 2021 Well the Strawheads dvd +cd arrived so I have a lot of listening to do, 22 albums, of between 11 and 32 tracks!!! I've listened to the first one, and realised I'd heard them before,, back in the late 1970 early 80s I used to drop into the folk club after volleyball training at RAF Locking.. between the live acts which were mostly from Locking, sort of folk karraoke, they played some music, some of which I think was from Strawhead.. I've just read the comprehensive album notes, and I read there's further stuff in pdf format on the dvd as well.. I will rip everything off this dvd and cd on my computer which is the main listening device for me , then this physical music will go into storage with the rest. I aways buy the CD, and keep it as a master. I don't trust that downloads won't disappear. Time for sleep.. 21

Happy AnnivERsary Sister (61) has been able to book her first jab having received the letter inviting her to do so. I also received the letter but had already done so. Collected the bike from its service this afternoon and, knowing the tides and times were right, returned to the Hill of Strawberries via Twickenham Riverside and Radnor Gardens both of which were under significant amounts of the River Thames. The highest tide of this cycle, and one of the highest all year, has coincided with the down-flow of Spring floodwaters from the entire Thames catchment area following a wet winter. These areas flood fairly regularly - indeed there are signs warning people not to park in certain areas - so this is nothing abnormal. But it still surprises some and attracts others. There were geese in the road and the bike path had vanished. The footbridge across to Eel Pie Island (the only way on or off without a boat) "landed" in a foot of water. Our war memorial was almost an island (and I have seen it once entirely surrounded by water) but by a couple of millimetres one side stayed dry this time. 26

RMweb Premium The White Rabbit Posted March 1, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 1, 2021 Evening all... (Or should I say, "Ay up lads"?) Ah, Monday... despite occurring at predictable intervals, always seems to cause chaos in the world of work. After a rather pleasant weekend weather-wise, back to fatchy pogs and sea-poopers. Rather cooler as well, so no real surprise it were a bit murky. One thing I forgot to mention yesterday was I saw two pair of sparrows and blue-tits gathering nesting materials. Mainly the dead bits of the alyssum. A second pair of sparrows were mating or fighting (I find it difficult to tell the difference!) Another sign of spring. Last year both sparrows and blue-tits nested in the big bushes on the boundary between us and the people at the bottom and brought up their broods in our respective back gardens. I won't poke about in case I disturb anything, but I wonder if it will happen again. It's certainly a good show from the back windows. @Barry O - I'll email you a list, thanks. I change the blog's list when things sell out but change the list on the original post rather than doing a new post. Night awl 14 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted March 1, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 1, 2021 Like many others I wasn't able to get much sense out of RMW this morning, which is a shame as it would have helped to pass the time while I waited for the GP to call for a telephone consultation. After thinking that my back was getting better, when I went to get out of bed the sciatica pain was excruciating and cocodamol didn't initially make much impression on it so I rang the medical centre. While I was waiting I repeatedly did the back exercises I've been given and eventually things started to get better but it took well over an hour before I was able to walk. The upshot of the consultation was that there is no way I can start taking anti inflammatories again because of the blood thinning medication that the neurological consultant is insisting I take, even though it is purely precautionary. Hence the GP is referring me to the physioterrorists again but part from that it's painkillers with laxatives to combat the side effects unless it gets so bad that I ask to be referred to the spinal consultant. We shall see. The rest of the day was spent doing exciting things like crosswords and a jigsaw puzzle, basically anything that didn't involve back movement, and now things are quite a bit better. The acid test will be what happens when I get up (or try to) tomorrow. As they say in France, there's allus bl**dy summat. The silver lining on the horizon is that if I am mobile (ish) tomorrow I have a SWMBO pink chit to spend a decent proportion of the day in the workshop. G'night all, stay safe and well. RMweb Gold Popular Post PeterBB Posted March 1, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 1, 2021 (edited) G- word ...again. SWMBO removed a large chunk of overgrowing XYZ (name escapes me at the moment but a bit like the 'mile a minute' stuff). I thought initially it would fit in a sheet and go in the estate. No, there was too much of it so next stage was cutting it up and that took 2 hours. After yesterday with part 1 and 2 hours plus waiting at the tip - household waste recycling centre - not made any easier by a car losing its cooling system and being 'abandoned' at the crucial time I thought that today would be a doodle - wrong. Again cars were in line right up to the road so was glad that some reading material was around - car handbook. The wait was shorter - only 1 hour 20 minutes but the dustbin and three other containers were duly emptied. On return found that SWMBO had been busy again so "tomorrow will be a good day" as it will be a repeat although with much less? to cut and deliver. The positive - after the fence repair on, I believe Saturday ... yes, the day that England gave Wales a number of 'free' points - is that the G is beginning to look better and of course now three days of 'fresh air'. What now? Working my way through The Biomedical Scientist March 2021 titled 'One Year in Lockdown' and the work of former colleagues essential to the recovery of Covid (and other) patients as well as doctors and nurses with appearances on television (BBC, ITV, Sky) not to mention the Association of Anatomical Pathology (AAPT) members who work in mortuaries have, no pun intended, had their work cut out in dealing with their patients - they still think of them as such at the time - after death. It was only occasionally painful, mostly when I pressed on the swelling on my face. It stopped when the fluid (mostly a water like fluid) burst into my mouth. It turned out that a fruit pip had got lodged between a tooth and the gum and started an infection. No amount of brushing or mouthwash would dislodge it but it came out after I kept sucking on it followed by the watery fluid. Bear has (impacted?) wisdom teeth that have not fully developed and can be prone to pain due to being difficult to clean properly and so food remnants can remain and cause infection; Dentist recommended the use of Cordosyl Mouthwash for such outbreaks (but not for regular use as it can cause teeth staining - don't drink tea or coffee when using it as this can make matters worse); much cheaper variants containing the same stuff (Chlorhexidine) are easily available and work just as well. Does it's stuff, and (touch wood) Bear hasn't needed to use it for some years now. More seriously: ... --- ... / -. --- / -.-. .- -.- . Bear has sorted the wiring for the alarm sensor back thru' the new coving and kitchen ceiling, involving lifting the carpet and floorboards on the landing and drilling a hole - fortunately in the right place too. Went unusually smoothly. Then it was rubbing down the bathroom door frame (or rather those bits visible from the kitchen side when the door is shut) ready for painting. I found the original tin of Dulux oil based satin last used back in the mid-90's, complete with a nice thick skin on the top. Bear hopes this will still be ok, as modern oil-based white goes yellow as soon as you look at it, and Bear HATES water-based paints with a vengeance (emulsions excluded) as they dry in about ten seconds flat, usually before you've even got 'em off the brush - causing a cr@p finish; they also chip and mark when brushed with so much as a duster, let alone a gentle knock with a hoover. Bear is now about to press the "Buy" button for the new kitchen units - I've designed it to death, run out of excuses and gone thru' every possible unit option known to Bear (and man). There's a price rise (10%) at midnight, though I've been advised on the phone and via email that this is being postponed for a week. However, if the Big Cheeses at the company change their minds then Bear will be shafted with a very large price increase - so press the button today it will be..... 19
tigerburnie
Busy day to day, though you can't really see that I've done much, a bit of the "G" word followed by a walk down to the small river that runs by the village, Trout fishing begins in a fortnight, so been checking it out, not too much winter flood damage this year. Sainsbugs delivered our food shop, not too many substitutes and delivery lad was as good as gold, so lots of treats to be had, began with a Madras curry with Onion Bhaajis and Poppadum's for my tea with mango chutney forgot to order beer or cider to wash it down, never mind.

My teeth have always been awkward and especially my wisdom teeth. 'They' decided that a general anaesthetic was required after seeing the X-ray. Being a dentist phobe person that seemed a reasonable idea. Once back in 'proper' consciousness I was informed that 'it had been a bit difficult to remove your wisdom teeth so you now have 22 stitches in your gums for a week or two'. A day or two later a mirror was presented - Frankenstein had nothing on this one. Seems funny now but long time friend also now in late 70s still has her wisdom teeth in place and has never had a problem with them.

Popular Post sixoh8sixoh
Evening all from the wilds beyond the Wall... Very long working day for me so haven’t been on ERs until now, and caught up on the action. I’m looking forward to getting my vaccination whenever that may be. Best guess is April/May as I’m in the 40-50 category. OH is watching more Phil and Kirstie so will be getting even more ideas. Architect is coming on Wednesday to do a feasibility study/consultation on going up into the loft and extending the ground floor by a couple of metres at the back. I remember seeing tables at exhibitions overflowing with every volume of Yeadon’s Register not so long ago, but they seem to be far rarer now. I managed to pick up a K3/K4 volume and have reserved a K1/K2 which I need to pay for tomorrow. I presume they’re now out of print. I’m wondering if either of Hornby or Bachmann might bring out a K4 soon. Would especially like a model of 61998 MacLeod of MacLeod as I knew The MacLeod of MacLeod since I was knee high to a haggis. He taught my father at Durham School and was still lurking around when I was a pupil, looking after the herd of Highland Cattle that he’d somehow persuaded a headmaster of the school to take on. The cattle were sold off in the early 2000s but thankfully to one of my contemporaries at school, who still has the bloodline in his stock. As a side note, the cow byre at the school was always visited by a large gathering on Christmas Eve/early Christmas Day following the midnight mass at the school chapel. Many of us went on to the byre to sing Away In A Manger and O Little Town of Bethlehem to the highland cows. On one occasion (not a Christmas midnight mass) the school chaplain parked his Land Rover in the byre, and the hot exhaust set light to the hay. Thankfully it was caught before too much damage was done and no cattle were harmed, but the chaplain did afterwards earn the nickname of The Arson Parson... Erichill16
Evening All, Jonny777, in my line of work, pharmacy, if a patient has symptoms for more than seven days and is not responding to treatment we recommend at visit to the doctors or in your case a dentist. This is especially true as the symptoms are getting worse, it may be a case of you putting off the inevitable and ending up with a much bigger problem. As for me, swmbo and myself were roped into home schooling the nephews. Anyone who teaches kids needs a medal, a bl00dy big one. Swmbo and myself have no children so have missed out on that aspect of life but I do remember helping (future) bil, many years ago with revision for his O levels. He’s 16 years younger than (the future) swmbo and she bought me a loco kit as a way thanking me. That’s 25years ago and I haven’t started the kit yet. The advantage of today’s arrangement is that Syd has stopped at our house for a sleepover but unfortunately where every he goes a sulphurous smell follows! If I don’t check in tomorrow, send a team in from Portnam Down to retrieve our bodies. So perhaps a final goodnight, Robert. 14

I too have a couple of impacted wisdom teeth but they are further back than the 'problem area'. I have never had any problem with them anyway. I do get a lot of stuff caught in my teeth on the gum line as my gums have receded, a normal part of growing old, hence 'long in the tooth'.
