RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted February 26, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 26, 2021 Hmm Barclays sent me a "how did they do?" email... They've cut the hours so I need to take a 1/2 day off to go into branch, That concentrates the number of people in branch at any time.. How do you think I clicked their questions? This morning I thought the roads were busy, Coming home they were the busiest I've seen since before lockdown 1, The big orange sheds car park was near full. This evening, bits on TV about stay home save lives... Do you think the covidiots are listening? Certainly the line of cars, with couples in, coming back from the beach this afternoon.. Those virus test kits were distributed round various people in my department to day.. For some reason not me... My blood sugar level was 12.2.. those vaccinations certainly do stuff your figures up... I think it's making me grumpy too, I think a need a Large Highland Park and a lie down.. 2

Bear, yes, the engineer that lurks within needed to find out what was wrong with the bloody chainsaw, I won't be beaten by stinking two strokes! Bear is a big fan of JVT - tells it like it is, in an easy to understand way (although some people who have the IQ of a plant pot still appear to struggle). I suspect he's kinda busy at the moment, so visits to RMWeb may not be practical.... Bl00dy two strokes? Don't fancy a 350LC then, or even better an RG500? I wish.... Thanks for the moon reminder - it's really bright and clear here too. It must be amazing (and perhaps a little sad) for the four remaining Astronauts to look up at the moon and think " I've been there". I wonder if NASA would be interested in sending a Bear to the moon - and hopefully back again? Bear had a visit from buddy next door today (bubble n' all that, being single) to impart his wisdom on all things kitchen. He also needed The Wisdom of Bear - it seems that his OH has resurrected the idea of perhaps moving to Frinton again, as she wants to be mortgage free (she'll never be that - she likes her big ideas too much, and simply bungs the cost on the mortgage...). Two-bed bungalow has been viewed - and OH then recons they can add a loft conversion, extension, add a bedroom, move some internal walls around..... Buddy tries to explain that all possessions would need to go into storage, find somewhere to rent, consider the cost of unforseens such as moving services etc etc. "That won't happen, and no we won't, we'll just make do". That's code for hubby to slum it whilst she effs off to stay with mummy and daddy until it's all over. It doesn't help that (a) she doesn't listen, (b) she never lets hubby finish a sentence (and BOY, does he hate that..) and (c) she's never, ever wrong - even when proved to be. You get the picture. Bear hopes that the idea disappears, as the idea of Buddy moving isn't a good one Bear is also into trying to decide what colour to paint the kitchen walls. White units, black granite worktops, dark grey tiled floor....light/ish walls wanted. A call to a nice lady at the Johnstone's Paint Tech Helpline was useful in realising what paint options were suitable; it went downhill when Bear asked what colour I should choose.... "Well there's 16,000 colours available, so take your pick...." It's a little known fact that Bears only do two choices - the right one and the wrong one. Anything more starts to get very, very difficult. Magnolia is not an option, should anyone dare to suggest it

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted February 26, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 26, 2021 Evening all from Estuary-Land. I've never thought of Frinton as somewhere to retire too, I'd rather go somewhere where there's good public transport and other facilities. When I retired I did consider Ipswich but the more I looked into moving the more I felt like 'why bother'. Also I have many good friends locally and where I live there is good access to all the facilities I need so I decided to stay put. 16

We had already downsized to a bungalow as we had seen the difficulties my parents had with using the stairs and wanted to get all on one level while we were still able to cope with moving. Now since retirement it seems like a never ending clearance of accumulated 'stuff' so that we can get rid of boxes that haven't been touched three years later. I fear that one day she will follow up on her promise to get a skip and empty the garage . . . . . . . Sorry to say I was never that interested in sport and so that department wasn't one that I had much contact with although I did sit on committees and approval events with the Dean Chris Bussell and the Head of Dept Andy Hooton. I just looked and there are numerous sports related programmes and would suspect that many have a common first year and then specialise later in the programme. There was a huge investment a few years ago in a new sports centre and so there is also a lot of new equipment for the students to use. https://www.derby.ac.uk/undergraduate/sport-exercise-science-courses/ https://www.derby.ac.uk/study/facilities/sports-centre/ Perhaps not a good idea to say too much about Forest when in Derby - being so close together there is a lot of local rivalry. The A52 between the two cities has been named 'Brian Clough Way' as it's the only thing that links the two !! Sorry to hear about her injury and hope that she will soon get back to being able to compete at a higher level. I recall that some of the Derby County players have received treatment for injuries at the University and so she could end up being worked on by other students in the School of Health . . . . . . Sorry for the delay in replying Mike been an odd couple of days. I didn’t realize how many courses the were on that sports/health/education theme. Now I’m not sure which one she is doing. All I remember my mum saying is that niece had changed her mind slightly and was going for one that was slightly more academically challenging. Regarding her choice of teams, she originally signed for Notts Country and as their ladies section was disbanded she got taken on by Forrest so suppose not particularly popular with ‘true’ Forrest supports either. Regarding MY team, after the other Yorkshire teams Notts Forrest comes next in the grudge stakes, ‘Your dad was a scab and so are you’ goes the chant referring to the miners strike of the 80s. So obviously wouldn’t be made welcome in Barnsley either. But she’s my niece so I’ll let her of with this (major) discretion. Regarding sports injuries, I know of two ex Barnsley footballers who have played in the premiership who have come way from the game with injuries that have severely impacted on their later life, and would hate something like that to happen to her. simontaylor484
Isn't Frinton a bit of a Gods waiting room , I recall Johnnie Walker commented there wasn't a chippy there either. It's ok retiring to these remote locations whilst you are healthy when your health does deteriorate and you can't drive and have to rely on public transport it soon becomes a prison rather than an idyll. My dad's parents moved to a village called Little Smeaton not long before I was born in fact the first time I was taken turf was being laid on to the front lawn. 6months later he had a stroke and couldn't drive anymore they lasted about 11 years there before moving closer to civilisation. 1
