RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted February 23, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 23, 2021 After extensive research on medical websites, Bear has concluded that a sure-fire way of fixing Bear's dizziness entails the scoffing of boiled egg (in Bear's special Winnie The Pooh eggcup) and soldiers, followed by Bear's last remaining Chrimbo Pudding and Custard (discovered purely by chance hiding in a carrier bag in the conservatory). And if that doesn't fix the dizziness then at least it will've been yummy 18 1 3
iL Dottore
Good Afternoon, Boys and Girls, Another tedious day dissecting an important document written by young people (I say “young people” as old gits like me know their grammar, punctuation, sentence parsing and paragraph phrasing. AND without resorting to jargon). Anyway, to help me endure this I’ve been listening to classical music - specifically modern classical music. Today it’s been Arvo Pärt, an Estonian composer of the most amazing secular and liturgical music. Forget the happy-clappy cra-p that trendy vicars inflict on their CofE congregations, this is real Majesty of God stuff!. This clip is of Pärt’s Nunc Dimittis (aka the Canticle of Simeon). I find it amazing and the soprano voices at 4:29 just.... well makes me shiver! And back in the days when the British were still writing soul stirring music, Elgar came up with this - Lux Aeterna: Normally I am not a fan of the Soprano or Alto voice (preferring Tenor and Bass voices) but there’s something about these two pieces of music that make the Soprano voice and the Alto voice sound so special and utterly awesome (as in “installing awe”). Incidentally, I believe Lux Aeterna to be a reworking of Nimrod from The Enigma Variations. And whether you like or don’t like this particular style of choral music, I am pretty certain that people will still be listening to Arvo Pärt and Edward Elgar long after Britney Spears, Justin Bieber and all the other crappy acts of today have been long forgotten (although it would be quite an eye-opener to open a Music streaming service in 100 years time and find both Pink Floyd and the Edward Elgar listed under “classical music“) Enjoy the evening! iD Edited February 23, 2021 by iL Dottore Stupid censor removed the word cra-p 13 2

While not of medical bent, if it helps, I concur with the good doctor; its with us for the long haul! So much for those who clamour for their jab in the hope that all will be normal afterwards. At the very least, masks will be needed in many cases to the chagrin of those who reject them now. Who knows where this pandemic is going, so more intrusions on normalcy may be forthcoming! I hope he didn't mean Malden ..... New or Manor The ticket said "Malton +" and wasn't priced for four stops down the line. + means valid on the tube between London terminals when required as part of a through journey. Popular Post sixoh8sixoh
Evening all from the wilds beyond the Wall (and it has been wild today!). OH is watching Posh Kirstie and Smug Phil, and getting ideas... she’s already been talking about swapping the kitchen into the downstairs lounge and extending that into the (minute) garden. We have made contact with an architect. I still can’t see me getting a model railway room out of this though. I’ve started a cardboard build of my parents’ old house in OO now, first section’s shell is done. That’s probably the easiest bit though. Where does one buy OO gauge conservatories?? Doggy has been to the v-e-t for a consultation today, he has conjunctivitis. He’s not keen on eye drops but he’ll have to put up with them. Today started with the Fishy One being due to appear before the Holyrood committee tomorrow, then by lunchtime he might not attend tomorrow. By teatime he’s not attending tomorrow. By mid-evening it’s “I won’t come tomorrow but I’m free Friday...”. It’s keeping us busy anyway... 5

RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted February 23, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 23, 2021 I did help with the pruning. Our garden waste bin is full now of woody bits that won’t compost well. It is bin day on Wednesday so it should be empty in time to clear more of the fence when I feel like doing some. I drive Aditi to the opticians and sat in the car while she went to get her new glasses. They do look like the old ones but the frames (such as they are in rimless specs) are a different colour. She is pleased as the reading but of the lenses is immediately noticeably better. I have set a variety of alarms to get up in the morning as I have an appointment at the Heart Failure clinic in Leigh on Sea. Aditi will drive me as parking isn’t easy there. I don’t think I will be long. I may even get discharged depending on what the consultant has told the clinic. Tony 6

Popular Post andyram
Evening all. I hope that today finds you well, safe and sane. Not much to report today. Amber drifted back off to sleep just after midnight and I struggled to get to sleep after that. She was fine, but I think I had one ear on her room for the rest of the night so there was not much sleep. Both us were fairly bleary eyed this morning. She did get through her home schooling whilst I cleared today's marking work. This afternoon I headed up to the shop for another delivery from a certain manufacturer. Whilst there, I happened to see a friend from the model club next door. The news from Monday means they can begin to progress their plans to open their display for the summer. We were able to discuss some plans for this including a project that has emerged over the last couple of days. My layout challenge has made only small progress today. Hopefully more tomorrow. Stay safe. Andy 17

That sort of service is available in the UK if you go 'private' but it doesn't cost anything like that as the actual medical procedures are still free of charge and all you actually pay for are the 'extras'. I'm the first to admit that there's room for improvement in the NHS but its still something to be proud of. 4
