RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted February 18, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 18, 2021 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Dry with a touch of sun this morning but still a bit breezy. I was just going to say that there was no sign of the BIN wagons this morning but they have just arrived and their dawn chorus has commenced. The lesser spotted glass and bottle wagon was last week which was cancelled so it won't be here until next week. Time to run a bath, be back later. 16
RMweb Premium Gwiwer Posted February 18, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 18, 2021 I am obliged to respect the ukulele. It is one of SWMBO’s instruments. She owns several though normally plays the concert one. Here is one of her own compositions played and sung with support from a friend on guitar. https://m.soundcloud.com/fantom_inc/deep-water 17

Popular Post leopardml2341
Well, so much for my recovery..... Woke this morning with a throat feeling like it was razor blades and not much voice to speak of (literally ). Phoned mi boss and his advice was to 'stay home' as it were, cos I'm doing that anyway. Good news is temperature is back to normal. A cuppa seems to have helped mi throat and meds for the headache seem to be effective. Best wishes to all for today, stay safe, sane and well.

Popular Post jonny777
A cloudy and damp morning here in North Somerset, but I do believe a clearance is on its way. From our NW facing living room window I can see a line of blue sky on the horizon, which usually means the clearance has reached the Brecon Beacons and will be here in about an hour. This is why I put the washing on at 8am, in order for it to be ready to hang outside by 11am when the sun comes out. The general post-vaccine nerve-ending chaos seems to be fading now I am about to reach the 7 day anniversary point. Itching has more or less stopped. General gum ache is subsiding and didn't happen at all overnight, which meant I actually slept for much of it rather than trying to predict which side of my mouth would be next to exhibit stabbing pains. Yesterday afternoon was a great example, as around 3pm I suddenly had the most severe toothache I can remember in decades, and it had arisen from nothing to "lets jump out of a 10th floor window, and end the pain forever" level in about 5 minutes. That proved to be the peak (or maybe it should be trough) as the pain then eased over the following 15 minutes until it had vanished completely by 3:25pm and has yet to return. If I knew what the hell was going on inside, I doubt there is much I could do for these random events. 3
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted February 18, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 18, 2021 My hospital appointment was a couple of minutes early. Gastro doctor was very pleased that all the heart and lung problems hadn’t triggered any colitis flare ups. Aditi has said she could drive herself to Southend this afternoon but I suggested I should drive just in case there are parking problems. Ordinarily if we go the Cliffs Pavilion (now the vaccination centre) we park on the sea front parking but that is all closed to deter day trippers. There is parking reserved for the Covid clinic but just in case it is full I can leave Aditi and find somewhere else. Tony 18 1
Popular Post Pacific231G
It was sunny and breezy in London when I got up this morning but now it's wet and breezy. Weekly shop this morning plus picking up my new printer from Argos. Having had the jab a week ago I'm now more than usually conscious of doing my darndest to not catch the virus before the protection kicks in a week or two so from now. The irony would be unbearable. 4
laurenceb
On music, most of what I listen to could be called covers. The one that I do know that is a cover is Streets of London, I greatly prefer Rodger Whittakar's version. I did like Please please Mr Postman as posted by Andy P earlier. RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted February 18, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 18, 2021 Good morning everyone Well it was raining earlier on and the garden is now very wet, so any sort of gardening is out for today I think. I’ve got plenty of things to do inside anyway so it doesn’t matter. Sheila seems to be having a reaction to the vaccine, she woke up with a headache, high temperature and felt like she’d been kicked all over, she’s still in bed at then moment, fast asleep. So I’ll do something quite for now. I though of a few more musical covers ELP’s version of Copeland’s Fanfare For The Common Man. It has a great driving beat at the heat of the song. Preludes version of the Beatles; Here Comes The Sun, a very happy up beat version. Hearts version of Led Zeppelin‘s Rock and Roll, strictly speaking not better, but certainly it’s equal. Dan Fogelberg’s version of The Cascades; Rhythm Of The Rain, with a nice segue with the Beatles Song Rain at the end. Incidentally, when Dan released that he got a letter from John Gummoe, the songs writer to say that it was the best cover of that song he’d ever heard. Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later. Brian 17

Neither was I asked to wait afterwards. I did drive to my vaccination appointment last week, or at least to a street with free parking 5-10 mins walk away from the Town Hall. It was Oxford-AZ and they didn't ask me to wait there but advised me to wait fifteen minutes before driving (just to sit in the car if necessary) I simply took a more circuitous route back to my car thus getting some of my daily exercise as well. I felt a bit virusy for a day or so afterwards but nothing out of the ordinary and totally obviated by my delight at actually getting the jab. I'm in group 5 so it was a couple of weeks earlier than I'd expected. That's actually slightly concerning as it suggest that a lot of groups 1-4 didn't take up the offer round here. It's notable that the variants seem to be coming from countries that allowed the pandemic to get out of control like Brazil, RSA, us and now the USA so we really do need a high vaccine take-up to counter that. Fortunately, we do seem to have particularly good scientists in this country (which is just as well given the current quality of our political leaders) Presumably variants won't appear in the deep south of the USA as they don't allow evolution Edited February 18, 2021 by Pacific231G 19
tigerburnie
Morning all, started off wet but it's getting brighter now, the snows all gone from our garden, but the mountain at the side of my car left by the snow plough is still there. We are managing a walk round the village, but keeping off the fields as they are very boggy and I don't have Norfolk feet despite having relatives in the county.......................... I believe the ECML should be re-opening up to Aberdeen today after the bridge partly collapsed near Stonehaven, a few trains have been running to Montrose, it's odd not hearing them rumble by. I had a delivery of potting compost and manure yesterday, so some indoor "G" word might happen in the greenhouse later, also some wheels will need turning on parallel strips of metal too. Stay safe all.
RMweb Gold Popular Post PeterBB Posted February 18, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 18, 2021 (edited) Have worked through all the pages generally not recognising most of the originals/covers mentioned. House of the Rising Sun I did for some the reason below have always liked by the association. On a field trip (Gwier may have done the same Pembrokeshire one some years later) we were staying in a 'hotel' with no heating (just come to mind was that it snowed and going into a shop told the proprietor whose response was 'It never snows here'). Anyway a gaming evening was planned and I was looking forward to it until that is 'they' decided to play for money' so that participants would play to win. That was me out when you play, although you hope to enjoy, the aim is to win. Watching proved interesting and for some caused real financial grief at which point the music in the background was 'House of the Rising Sun'. It has stuck in mind and the cover above has given me a generally rather pleasant remembrance of the field trip. Popular Post andyram
Morning all and supportive wishes to Andy (leopard) once again who appears not to shaken his illness as yet. I hope you feel better soon mate. Sarah is still suffering from the after effects of the jab. She has been going hot and cold, has shakes, head ache and is feeling sick. She (nor I as a result) slept much last night. She has stayed in bed and does appear to be sleeping things off now. Hopefully the side effects will ease when she awakes. This afternoon I will have to venture out to Matlock Bath for the said delivery which is due to arrive sometime between 2.50pm and 3.50pm. There is a customer coming to collect an order just before then. In terms of the delivery, as NHN states, it would be wrong of me to name and shame the said company despite their obvious failings and the frustration they cause. I know that I am not alone in being frustrated by their level of service however. Have a good day and stay safe. Andy 1

Nice to see that I'm not alone in liking this pair - they came into my radar via a YouTube recommendation, and I have been following their music ever since. Their own composition Close To You has Lennon/McCartney written all over it - quite amazing And just while we're disussing music - here's Josh Turner's latest offering Old Train Now then, sorry for absence - and won't catch up a lot of the missed pages. Have had my invite to the Zoom meeting - hope to be there. A real oddity over COVID vaccines round here - some of 30747's colleagues are being turned away, and some are being vaccinated - all are now classed as Health and Social Care, allegedly. Also, her manager, aged 38 was invited by text to have a vaccination, as was her manager's partner, also aged 38. Neither was any underlying condition, and the partner is not in a designated employement. Her manager's mum, aged 59 and under the same GP practice has not been invited - most strange. RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted February 18, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 18, 2021 (edited) I think the only ukeleles in the family belong to a cousin who is a paramedic. I haven’t heard them, some of his guitar playing and songs allegedly exist online somewhere. My nephews are multi instrumentalists and seem to be able to get a tune out of a variety of devices but I haven’t heard them mention ukelele. My nephew Josh did consider music as a career but settled on medicine. When at university he liked playing in bands but wasn’t pushy enough to play guitar so played bass. He then took up banjo and for fun plays jazz bluegrass fusion. Edited February 18, 2021 by Tony_S 20
