It's hard to see what genre it would fit into. Pop, soul, gospel wouldn't fit (and it's as far away as you can get from heavy metal, rock, jazz blues or C&W) It's generally accepted that the song lies in the C&W genre. Originally a hit for the writer, T. Texas Tyler in 1948, it was later a hit for Tex Ritter. The story derives fron an 18th century folk tale from Hampshire (old).

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted February 17, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 17, 2021 (edited) Evenin' each, Late to the birthday party with Bill Haley and Rock around the Clock. Wonders will never cease and Hermes delivered and collected at the same time. What was even more surprising is that that the new nest of tables, although bought from a different supplier and on their websites called by a different name, is identical to the one rejected! On inspection this one has passed muster and The Boss has decided to keep it. Nothing much else of note has happened although I did manage to slip a bottle of brandy into the Sainsbury online trolley earlier. That may cause a reaction tomorrow. I read in the news earlier than anyone using Tesco in the past week should check their bank statement as some customers have been double charged due to a "payment glitch." Popular Post leopardml2341
Evenin' folks. Good news, mi bleughness has all but gone. Bad news, that means work tomorrow with the commensurate 3 day backlog. Seems to have been a good day for most, judging by posts here - c@ckwombles well dodged it would seem. Looks like it's raining here (BBC weather agrees for once) as Doggo's just reappeared and is slightly damp, and therefore slightly smelly 'Wet dog' is a unique perfume..... To be fair he's not normally stinky, just when he's wet, even immediately after a bath ??? Might not check back before turning in so an early 'Goodnight All' and best wishes for tomorrow. 22

Popular Post pH
Just watched a cat stalk a squirrel in our back yard. (The squirrel saw it just before it pounced.) The cat comes from a house in the next road below us and goes through our yard to hunt in the woods behind us. It’s not friendly - it will run if it sees us - but every so often, it leaves us a “toll” on the front doorstep. 17 2

And for me, the Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard version just edges it. One cover version I don’t particularly like is the Emmylou Harris cover. Which is kind of ironic, given that Willie Nelson discovered the song through Emmylou Harris's cover. One reason I like the Willy and Merle version is because when compared to the Townes Van Zandt original, it’s a lot easier to play. Van Zandt uses Travis picking, a skill I am a long way away from picking up. it’s interesting to contemplate how certain cover versions of songs have become even more famous than the original. Amongst the many I can think of are “All Along The Watchtower“ by Jimi Hendrix (based on the Bob Dylan original), “A Little Help From My Friends” by Joe Cocker (originally by The Beatles) and “Cocaine” by Eric Clapton (the original, if I recall correctly, was by J.J. Cale). Amongst many, many others. There are countless more great covers (and in some instances, the cover artist turned a so-so original into a big hit). It would be interesting to learn from the ER what is their favourite cover version of a song (and perhaps why). And now it’s time for bed. Good night all ID 16
RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted February 17, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 17, 2021 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Chicken and bacon pie and chips tonight all down to the sell by date lottery. BIN day tomorrow, double lot to put out as collections were cancelled last week due to the weather. Interesting item on BBC breakfast this morning, Captain Toms daughter Heather was talking about her fathers decision to visit Barbados, apparently it was on his bucket list. She was speaking about his last moments in hospital which stirred up memories of my own fathers passing over thirty years ago. Like Captain Tom he was rushed into hospital but unfortunately he had to be heavily sedated for his final hours but before he was sedated he was at least aware that the family were all present.

Popular Post andyram
Evening all. Firstly good wishes to Pete (Trisonic) and hope you are feeling better soon. I am pleased to hear Andy (leopard) is on the mend. To continue the recent theme - number 1 on my 7th birthday was "Come on Eileen" by Dexy's Midnight Runners. That well known wedding disco staple. News on the vaccine saga. Today was attempt 2 and I am pleased to say that Sarah sailed through the process with no further issues. She had the Oxford one and was allowed to leave straight after (but only because I was driving her). Had she been in her own transport she would have been told to wait. Unfortunately, she has succumbed to the side effects this evening with head ache, aching arms and nausea. I am not surprised, and fully expected this. Sarah is renowned for reacting badly to any jab and is usually ill for a day or so after her flu jab each year. I have dutifully sent her to bed and kept her supplied with drinks and food as required. Hopefully she will feel better tomorrow. With another "day off" from the adult education work, I have found time to get stuck into a few outstanding domestic jobs. The shower door has been fixed, an old chest of drawers dismantled and a new set constructed all before lunch. The afternoon involved a delivery to a customer in Nottingham before I was required to play "nurse". Tomorrow will see me back at the shop for a delivery from one of my regular suppliers. Throughout lockdown, all others have happily agreed to send stock to my home address so that I can avoid countless drives to Matlock Bath. All of these have done so after a brief phone conversation with the rep or accounts office or following a simple e-mail. One supplier will only send to home address once I have placed my account on hold, and then filled out several forms before awaiting a decision to allow a temporary change of address. Much less hassle to drive to the shop to collect this one. I will leave to guess which supplier it is... Stay safe. RMweb Gold Popular Post PeterBB Posted February 17, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 17, 2021 Cover version and original - sorry guys haven't a clue, the 'pop' music scene did not interest me, I either liked a song or didn't - that was it. Perhaps one thing that was not known at the time was the frustration of not being able to make out the words - an unknown hearing defect was eventually discovered in my 50s. I do still have a set of Buddy Holly records. Peggy Sue was a very much liked one. Somewhere I have Bill Haleys Rock Around the Clock and 'Alligator' and did like the Shadows Foot Tapper. Peter Paul and Mary, Nina and Frederick and I do still have Elvis's '78' Love Me Tender that was given to me by the then girlfriend. Perhaps I enjoyed rather more than at first thought. My brother heard the Stones before they became famous. My main interest was brass banding - two practices a week and especially playing out in bandstands. 21

Now to listen to the rest of the LP. Note: The absolute wurst version ever recorded (unfortunately) was the Ike & Tina Turner cover!
