Fortunately it won’t be difficult for me to do so, I don’t have anything planned apart from medical stuff until October. I can see the October cruise (originally booked pre Covid ) being postponed again. For one reason some of the ports visited are French and it doesn’t appear that their vaccine programme will be particularly advanced by then. I booked a cruise last June for a cruise along the French Atlantic coast for this May. I’m hoping it gets canceled as neither of us are wanting to go just yet. We’ve got a Hurtigruten Norwegian coastal voyage booked for November but hoping by then things will be .......... Don’t really know the word, normal, more normal, acceptable, bearable. Anyway hope you can something fixed up. Robert Edited February 16, 2021 by Erichill16 Massive typo

RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted February 16, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 16, 2021 I can't see anything like normal happening this side of next Christmas. What I will be doing is planning events for 2022, before the rush for staycations kicks off which means booking coaches etc. well in advance (by summer this year). 14 4
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted February 16, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 16, 2021 (edited) Evenin' each, I have pancaked. Four to be exact following a bacon baguette. It would be quite accurate to say that I am now rather full. After 3 The Boss said "surely you can't manage any more." I said "if there's any batter left then bring it on." So she did and the last one was shall we say quite "chunky." Now sitting here with another glass of a rather nice French Grenache/Syrah and thinking all is well with the world and hoping that all will still be well with my digestive system later on. The parcel that came yesterday contained a nest of tables that The Boss wanted. Two were damaged so the whole lot are being returned and replacements will not be required from that supplier. She has now got me to order some from elsewhere. Can't wait to see what these are like.... Edited February 16, 2021 by grandadbob 1 1

Popular Post Coombe Barton
In 2018 I booked a pitch on the Cornish campsite for 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023. Depends on my partially planned retirement what dates I choose for 2024 onwards. A partially planned retirement depends on how successful the recruitment for my replacement is. and the candidates we get. 5

Don’t really know the word, normal, more normal, acceptable, bearable. Less fraught? (Whatever the word/term, yes, fingers crossed). Evenin' awl. It was another pleasant day weatherwise, various jobs done and the G word invoked again this afternoon. Not quite as mild as yesterday but enough to get some bits done without getting too cold. Knocked off, looked in on ERs, saw the various reports of rain, thought I'd better not say anything about the sunny afternoon otherwise it'll sound disgustingly smug - went downstairs and starting cooking tea ('Omlets' if you just asked) and ten minutes later, a regular chuckitdarn. The duckpond's back... Thinking of culinary activities, maybe it's an illusion but I don't recall any posts from il D lately - hopefully it's a case of evil plots don't make themselves rather than any problem. Back to work myself shortly. I could have used a month but hey ho... PM received from our social secretary. Blown fuse replaced, so hope to be there this weekend, though audio only. 17
RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted February 16, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 16, 2021 Evening all, SWMBO absolutely distraught at the news report of additional people being asked to shield; she is now convinced she will be one of them which has thrown her fragile sense of security right out of the window and down the street. We don't even know yet but nothing right now is calming her down. At the same time the incumbent's manifesto for the forthcoming local elections plopped through the junk-mail slot. Not a word about the ruddivirus other than to praise the very people who are currently causing extreme distress within these four walls by their pronouncements and pontifications. Further comment on the matter may result in my being surgically removed from the site for p*******l comment. I'm off to inspect my eyelids. I may be some time. 2
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted February 16, 2021 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 16, 2021 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Haven't done a thing today so why do I feel knackered? It might be the result of yesterdays covid jab, I had the Oxford vaccine but I'm not aware of side effects if any. 1 2

Good luck with that John - I was asked to stay on for an additional three months for an 'orderly handover' to my successor - typical university red tape delayed the initial advertising and then there was the usual prolonged shortlisting, interviewing and selection plus the need for the replacement to be replaced in their area which meant that the new staff member was only confirmed the day before I left after a process that took almost six months - and that was just for an administration position. . . . . . Regular readers will know that I was surprised to be called for my jab last week as I am in the 65-70 group. The surgery said the area was ahead of target and that has now been confirmed by a report from the NHS as Derbyshire has done 92.5% of over 70s and is second only in the country to Somerset at 93.4% The top ten areas are in this local news report https://www.derbytelegraph.co.uk/news/derby-news/derbyshire-vaccine-programme-top-two-5011390 . 21 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted February 16, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 16, 2021 (edited) I asked my nephew if he had jabbed anyone from Durham yet but he said In Brighton he has only been vaccinating health and social care staff. He had been inoculating patients from GP practices near where he works as a GP on other days so hasn’t seem any out of town people. We're already advertising, and I've been involved in the job spec. I'm five and a half years past my original sell-by date, but I won't be going until I'm satisfied that what I've fought for somlong to develop its going to be in good hands. It's a long story, involving a previous head of department who wanted to kill off analysis. He nearly succeeded, but when we found that students werenp[t getting jobs because they couldn't analyse, the policy was reversed. 19
Popular Post andyram
Evening all. Best wishes to Andy (leopard) who I note is not at his most healthy. I hope you feel better soon. Also not at their best is our dear daughter who awoke late last night with a sickness bug. She has been lethargic on the sofa most of the day but has not been sick again so hopefully just a 24 hour thing. Thanks to those who offered comments about Sarah's negative vaccine experience on Sunday. She is booked in to try again tomorrow morning. Her boss has contacted the council and she has a different letter to prove her eligibility. We wait and see. If this one fails then I don't think I will be holding off from sharing the experience with the press and MP etc. 9 1 1

You do know the saying “Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part”? My sister, who had a specialized job in a national company, told her boss and HR on her 64th birthday that she was retiring on her 65th. With 6 months to go, and no sign of a replacement, or any moves to promote/recruit one, she reminded people of what she’d told them. With 3 weeks to go, they gave her a new hire to train. She pointed out that it was very unlikely this person could be fully trained up in the time remaining. HR said “You will be staying on as a consultant though, won’t you?”. “No” she said. The company are still in operation, so she must have done a good enough job of training him.

Some location shooting for the League of Gentlemen series took place in the village where I lived for a time. Our local newsagent was a dead ringer for the shopkeeper and I'm sure several other characters owed much to people I used to see on a daily basis as I walked through Royston Vasey to the station. Much has changed, the butcher's shop has closed and the Masons Arms is now a Tesco Express. 13 4 1
