Morning all from Estuary-Land. Any evidence of the snow has disappeared, its now just wet. The dampness set off the eczema last night, the itching was driving me mad until it was suppressed by a liberal application of aqueous cream. Today is the 50th anniversary of the introduction of decimal currency, it is also the 50th birthday of a late friend's daughter. Sadly we have lost touch but happy birthday anyway Jacquie. At the time it was quite a drastic change but as a colleague of mine pointed out at the time it would have been even more difficult going the other way. Time to get ready for the jab so its be back later.

Good morning everyone

 

Well it’s stopped raining, the wind has also stopped and the temperature has risen to 7C, completely different to the weather we had last week, when we had -3C it’s a full 10C higher now!

 

Today will see the recently painted chairs give a wipe down and then relocated to the large attic room where a space has been made for them to go. This week will see no proper work done in the cellar for various reasons;

Tomorrow is Sheila’s birthday, she will then officially be a pensioner!

Wednesday I’m at the surgery first thing for my injection in the stomach which is keeping my cancer at bay. Later the same day Sheila has her Covid injection, booked through the surgery, but done at a different location. By the time that’s done it’ll be dinner time. 

Friday is usually the day I do the weeks second fodder run, so that only leaves today and Thursday, so I’ll spend these tidying up the cellar, sweeping the floor etc. 

What a full and fun packed week we have in store eh! We know how to live.

Great Koala work by the dental guy.

 

Today marks fifty years of writing xy new pence on cheques - remember the change well and the 'documents' e.g. 10 + 5 = 15 rather than the expected 'conversion rates' from basis 12 to basis 10.  It did of course become a good excuse for upping prices as will Covid in a time when for tax reasons those needing will suffer while those companies like Am***on effectively paying little tax get rich.

MOrning, bit late on, must be the leaves.

 

A poor nights sleep and a 'tight band around the head' sort of headache this morning, not too sharp feeling at all currently.  Not the jab, I haven't had it yet, group 6 with underlying conditions, so not far off....but Fraggle Rock is on a different timescale to the UK.  As for second doses, here they have all been held in store, so for everyone that has had a first dose, there is a second one already here for them.  It's called planning.  Mrs NHN's first dose caused severe headache, the second no reaction at all.

 

8c here now which feels semi-tropical after the last week, but plans of walking scuppered by rainfall.  We'll see what it's like after lunch.  In the meantime I should go and reassemble the chainsaw now the bits are here, before I forget how to do so.

A few pages skipped, as a result of spending a lot of time trying to find out whether 30747 is or isn't entitled to a COVID jab - she was told she was, but now some of her colleagues have been turned away from the vaccination site saying that aren't elgible - she is trying to find out from her work, and the internet is of no help at all.

 

So it's the usual generic greetings, but for the music lovers, this was in my inbox this morning from the most excellent Foxes and Fossils.

It is distinctly soggy and misty out there with the palace only now emerging from the mist - so a definite sign of warming (a comparative term) but more rain is promised.

 

Third muggatea has just been commenced and no doubt the next one will follow fairly soon after.  Continuing on the fuelling theme last night's curry was as good as usual and greatly enjoyed by all but my mushroom supply is exhausted so i suspect it will be baked beans and sausages for lunch and an as yet undisclosed menu for this evening.  Big task todauy is to try and get an article completed although the person dealing with them is only starting 'design' on my previously submitted one today if she can get it transformed from Pages to Word - looks like I might need to find a certain disc I have somewhere and load Word if there's no other way round things.

Good morning all,

Very dull here and much dampness earlier but it's eased off now.  It may brighten up later.

Our travellin' parcel seems to be stuck in Croydon.  To be fair the original delivery was quoted as by the 19th so perhaps they're hanging on to it for now.

Doorbell rang at 9.25 last night and a man tried to deliver some curry to us.  It took some effort on my part to persuade him that we hadn't ordered it.  He initially insisted we had because it said so on his phone but came round to my way of thinking and then left.   20 minutes late the bell rang again and a new neighbour from round the corner asked if I'd got his food because he'd been told that they'd delivered it to me.  He too took some persuasion that we hadn't got it (slight language barrier) but he eventually understood when I said I don't even like curry much and don't order takeaways!  

Nothing exciting happening today (unless somebody else delivers something I don't want)  but my pensions have landed so I've got to move some money around.

Like many I woke up this morning to the first snow free morning for about a week, However that is not the reason for this post. Last night I started reading "Britain's Railways in Wartime" as mentioned in my modelling thread

 

One of the earlier references  in the book is to the number of extra trains to Bow Street station for army exercises just before WW1. Before going to sleep I made a mental note to look up where Bow Street station was as it was not a name I knew outside of London.. However very oddly I did not have to look it up as the following was on the BBC website this morning:

Peter, many thanks for sharing this.  I've been reading about this brave little fella, who was first called Tripod!  The prosthetic foot is a wonderful piece of lateral thinking and I congratulate its ingenious creator.

Electric ride this morning, just 20 miles but 2500 feet of climbs. It is impossible to ride more than about two miles from our house without a big climb. Temperature gone from -4C to -8C since yesterday's walk and wind dropped. Surprising amount of ice still around on the lanes higher up.

Got home to find water has gone off, fortunately the tank on the coffee machine was full. I am on the priority list with the water company so have just had a text to say they are on the way to investigate.

Assembled chainsaw, started fine - then stops as before after a few seconds at full power.  So having replaced or overhauled on it everything the interweb can suggest, I'm not sure where to go from here.

Aditi has received a letter today. So she went to the website and it doesn’t seem to have any vaccination centres available. Lots in Kent or SE London, some in Enfield and Colchester (which is at least in Essex!).

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Been jabbed, in and out in less than ten minutes, despite turning up early, and no after effects. It was the Oxford vaccine which IIRC is the one with the fewest side effects.

Thats because they use an algorithm that takes a straight line from your address to the vaccination centres. To change my appointment last week I called my GP's surgery which just so happens is co-ordinating a group of local surgeries. It seems to be far more slick and efficient than the NHS one.

It might depend on the efficiency , or otherwise, of the GP's people but Mrs Stationmaster booked hers with our GP simply by tagging onto my appointment (but my appointment was made by the surgery and the vaccine was administered there, with herself included when we were called in).

As is ours but they can't book for vaccines they don't have. BiL and colleagues in Kettering could vaccinate 7 days a week but are doing a lot less than that.
