RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted February 11, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 11, 2021 Other hobbies. Have I mentioned golf (with occasional trainspotting) Biking - mostly mountain with a bit of road as and when. (Not quite a mountain....) And watching ice hockey - supporting my local team - the Blackburn Hawks. My usual companion is Junior NB and we are really missing our regular weekend fix. The 2020/2021 season was officially cancelled a few days ago - not that it actually started. And if any of the above can be incorporated into a holiday, then all is well. (The bike pic is a holiday snap) Lots planned for Thursday WFW. (At the moment, my roster is alternate weeks WFH/WFW) WFW means that I don't have to answer the help line and also not be too distracted with emails. I've got loads done this week so far. 2 out of 3 packages have arrived that will add another dimension to the main unmentionable hobby. Without package 1, then 2 &3 will remain unopened. Mrs NB goes for a jab tomorrow - she gets it for her work. I have no idea which particular flavour she is due to get. Hump day done, bins put out, time for Zzzzzz. Have a good Þūnresdæg folks 23

Popular Post chrisf
Greetings one and all Today I am due to have my initial Covid jab. The vaccination centre that I will be attending is Pure Gym. Me going to a gym! Who would have thought it? I’m a bit of a coward when it comes to injections. This is especially true of those associated with dental treatment. Having said that, a hole drilled in my arm is a simple matter and if it reduces the chances of my succumbing to that ruddy virus, all well and good! Today also sees, finally, the 97th birthday of my twin aunts, Dorothy and Gladys. You don’t get many twins of that age! Both have lived in care homes for the past couple of years. Sadly, but unsurprisingly, both have tested positive for Covid-19 and I cannot hide my disappointment that this was not diagnosed before the vaccine was rolled out. To the best of my knowledge, both aunts are not seriously ill, but I am still more than thankful that I made the effort to visit Gladys last September, even though I had only 20 minutes with her. She it was who turned not a hair when this incoherent nephew unleashed his coming-out speech on her two and a half years ago. She was an absolute star! Hobbies? Does travel count? Whether it does or not, there is photography, which in my case is almost lapsed. Over the years my work has appeared in Rail, Traction, Today’s Railways UK and the Sidmouth Town Guide! Best wishes to all Chris 23

That’s a difficult one. Assuming that we absolutely have to adhere to the “no rumpy pumpy“ rule, then I think I would enjoy the company of either of either David Gilmour or David Attenborough. Both intelligent and erudite individuals with fascinating careers. 9 hours ago, New Haven Neil said: Ah, well that depends. Brian Cox or Sigourney Weaver, you work it out! Depends, if marooned on a well provisioned South Sea Island with no pollutants and an absolutely clear sky, then Brian Cox would be the choice (all kinds of Astrophysics type things to do in such a situation). If, on the other hand, I am marooned on a desolate, hostile, rock then the company of Sigourney Weaver (or at least her character of Lieutenant Ellen Ripley) would be most beneficial. 10 hours ago, PhilJ W said: ...Do other ER's have other hobbies? apart from the obvious one that is never mentioned. I thought that the high-minded Mr P Bear had instructed us to avoid choosing a celebrity on the basis of animalistic passion. But if we are allowed a celebrity companion on our South Sea desert island with whom, how can I put it, we can “share our coconuts“, then my shortlist of candidates would include Sean Young, Jodie Foster and Celia Imrie. All attractive, all very smart and all have aged well (unlike iD who has just aged disgracefully). Quite frankly, too many so-called “celebrities“ nowadays are distinctly lacking in the brains department. It’s all very well to be swept away by a tsunami of primeval passion, but when that tide ebbs, you need to be able to do something with your most important organ. Which is, of course, your brain (Shame on you for thinking otherwise). Another late night beckons (work teleconferences with the West Coast), so I’m dragging my feet a bit on getting started... Probably aught to watch more of SWMBO’s celeb at home programmes, er, no thanks I take a risk. Alan Turing, not a celeb in his own lifetime, but I’d like to have him explain his work. Probably need to spend a bit of time on that and have copious amounts of paper available on the island. From what I know of him, probably not a great guy to share a drink with at the beach bar. Bear, is there a beach bar where we’re going? Is there a Bar? Why not. But no staff - it's just you and celeb.... Alan Turing? If he was anything like the character in the film then Bear's eyes would glaze over very quickly at any attempt to explain his work - way, waaay above the capacity of my few brain cells. David Jason could be interesting though, bearing in mind the characters he's played (Del, Frost, Granville, Blanco Webb....); he's also a qualified helicopter pilot 19

Popular Post The Lurker
Greetings all from Sidcup where it is pretty parky at the moment. Temperatures well below freezing last night but we did also manage a covering of snow - which because it was so cold has settled. In our back garden, we have an old climbing frame which has a den on it, probably four feet from the ground. This morning a fox was fast asleep under it; I can only imagine it gave minimal protection against the cold but I was surprised it was not wherever it normally lurks. It is not a frequent visitor to the garden these days although around ten years ago we had a den under our decking (with attendant smell). Younger Lurker was very small then and Mrs Lurker took steps when Mum fox came between her and him and was showing no signs of running away. It's good to see members of ERs getting their jabs; good luck to day Chrisf. I did get a text last week from my surgery offering me the chance of a jab. When I read a bit more, it was gthe flu jab so excitement diminished...but at least they still have the correct mobile number and since then I have had another text telling me to be patient for mine. Well I am in the 50+ bracket so I was expecting nothing for a while. MiL has her jab today - she is under 70 (just) so they are ahead of the game up in the North East. Hobbies: well I like watching cricket (playing days long over) and football, and most other sport too I like reading, particularly science fiction / fantasy Listening to music - particularly mid 80s goth/post punk/new wave but also a lot of other stuff including folk rock, desert rock (think North African blues) and many others. I have an interest in maps and in history and geography in general. I also like dinosaurs and prehistoric stuff. Basically I have all the interests I had when I was a kid (although I long since dropped D&D!) and have enjoyed reliving some of them with my boys as they grew up!

Chris - hope all goes well - I will be waiting for the doors to open on Saturday for an 8.00am jab at Derby Arena (Velodrome) which is being used by over 30 local GP Practices. I am in the 65-70 group and so I was surprised to receive an email from the surgery last week with a link to go onto the website to book a time. However each time I tried (many many times each day) the response was 'Coming soon - try later'. After 3 reminder texts from the surgery, I was still getting nowhere so phoned and the receptionist was able to get onto their system straight away and said they were busy until the weekend which at that time was almost all free so I took the first available time. I said that I was surprised to be called up as there was a lot of publicity about getting over 70s done first but she said that they were ahead of target locally and had now moved down the age range. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted February 11, 2021 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 11, 2021 (edited) Good morning all, Very frosty start but the sun is shining and the sky is blue. Currently 0°C and it should stay dry. Late checking in here but I have been up since 5.30 thanks to much painful aching in the back, hip, thigh and knee. Horses have been shot for less. Bin men have done their thing although one of them couldn't be bothered to pick up stuff he dropped outside a neighbour's house. He also tried to lift our half full bottle and plastics large wheelie bin and tip it into next door's. After nearly dropping it he thought better of it and wheeled it down the road to meet the lorry. Wonder how long it'll be before he does his back in. Prat! Sainsbury's delivered on time and it was one of the drivers that The Boss used to work with. Lovely guy who is always cheerful. Nothing missing and only two subs, both perfectly acceptable. Hobbies? Does spending time with children and grandchildren count because that probably gives me more pleasure than most things. Socialising with friends. Rugby - obviously, Cricket, Swimming and Athletics all of which regrettably are now only as a spectator. Reading although I don't do anywhere as much as I used to. Spend too much time online I think. Music (listening to all sorts) including attempting to play the guitar but problems with my left hand mean that I'm now even worse than I was and have virtually given up. Many many years ago I used to do quite a lot of cycling but I wouldn't risk it around here these days. Railway modelling Playing with trains - there, I've mentioned that which must not be spoken of. Celebs on a desert island: Difficult one that but somebody like Dick Strawbridge would probably be a handy companion. Otherwise as mucky thoughts aren't allowed I shall just dream on. Today's main "pleasure" will be visiting the dental mechanic after lunch to see if he can repair a damaged premolar. Can't wait. Have a good one, Bob.
