RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted February 10, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 10, 2021 (edited) interesting day. Walked to the butchers (home smoked bacon and dragon sausages purchased) and on the way home the sun disappeared and it snowed .. wind chill was flipping chilly to say the least! I started addingdirttomakethingslookrealisitic then a friend rang. This was followed by a video chat with Dr Eldest Herbert who is being smug as he has finished 90% of the marking he needs to do. Tea was cooked and eaten.. the car was disinfected (new info said just the seats, door handles and controls to be cleaned). and is ready for its MoT tomorrow. Early start tomorrow so I may be a "late" ER. Baz Edited February 11, 2021 by Barry O

How does @polybear get his squirrels away? I had hoped the bu99gers Upon the Hill of Strawberries might have hibernated and left our gardens alone but no - they insist on continuing their mining operations and have claimed almost all of the 100 tulip bulbs we planted recently, plus raided the "squirrel-proof" bird feeders every time I refill them. Just a quick check-in as it's already eyelid-inspection time. Dr. SWMBO made her hospital trip today. She wasn't comfortable slipping and sliding on the icy footpaths up to the bus stop, nor was she comfortable on the bus (her first such trip in over a year) then had to wait almost an hour in a crowded (i.e. no social distancing - every seat taken) waiting room for her appointment and was seen something like 50 minutes late. A minor lady-procedure left her in excruciating pain until Nurofen intervened and she managed to get herself home. The pain has since subsided to an apparently-normal post-operative dull ache but she now cannot sleep. At least the day itself is over and done with. Dan Dan the Boiler Man re-visited to complete the repairs to the combi and allow us continuous hot water once more. He failed. The boiler needs to be replaced. They now have to await the go-ahead from the landlord before visiting for a third time but hopefully for a straightforward (if there is such a thing) exchange of boilers rather than two hours of unbolting, unscrewing, poking, prodding, lip-sucking, phone-call-making and then refitting, testing and muttering about it being "not as simple as we thought". C'est la vie. At least we are still in la vie as the alternative doesn't seem overly attractive. I'll try to sleep well; not sure whether SWMBO will get much. All the best to one and all.

Popular Post Erichill16
Hobbies, far too many really. I interested in all kinds of models or should that be miniatures! As well as the obvious I’ll make kits of aeroplanes, AFV (tanks) commercial vehicles and cars. Obviously I’m interested in Barnsley FC (but necessarily football) SWMBO and myself have a classic car each though neither of us are mechanically minded and I suppose that’s why neither of them have been out of the garage for about three years. Rather stupidly I was looking as classic TVRs last night but by this morning black dog had reminded me of the cars already in long term storage. Anything I model I’m interested in, so I’ve been to air shows and to see classic car racing. If I’d got my classic out I could have done a couple of laps at Donnington at one of the race meetings I went to there. One hobby I have or rather had, was slot car racing, a combination of modelling and motor racing. Unfortunately the club I went to folded a couple of years ago. One of the issues with that hobby was spending time on a new model only to send it flying into a wall in its very first lap. As well as the above, I enjoy walking, watching cricket and like taking photos, but I’m no photographer. As to the other question posed, I’ll have a think about that. I have however been lurking and rating Other hobbies: I once restored a bus (as many will be aware) which I sold on some time ago now I've fitted out, and still own, a narrow boat Clocks figure quite largely too, I own a Gledhill Brook time recorder with a single Fusee movement for the clock and time recording mechanism; fascinating. I also have a Synchronome master pulse generator clock which drives slaves around the house and soon to be in mi summershed (lockdown 1 project) as well. I have a second one in need of some fettling. That will be used to drive the signalbox clocks on my friend and fellow RMwebber, The Laird's, Leeds City Wellington project. Erichill16
Had a bit of time to think of celebrity who I’d like to spend some time with. I’m not a ‘fan’ of celebrities and hate it when SWMBO has reality celeb programs on the tv. However I think John Lyndon (Rotten) would be a good choice, a full life and views on most subjects and probably a good drinking partner. ps. Bear, does the celeb have to be alive now? Obviously you wouldn’t want to take a dead celeb with you, but could you go back in time?

RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted February 10, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 10, 2021 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Which celebrity would I like to spend some time with? As I am a long time Queen fan with a passing interest in Astrophysics it has to be Brian May. I didn't mention before but on the fodder run I managed to acquire not one but two bread puddings, enough to see me through to the weekend. It should be BIN day tomorrow but the council had suspended collections after one of the operatives slipped over and was injured. I will have to check that before I put the bags out.

Popular Post Erichill16
Evening All, Been cold here but went for walk with Mil and Sydney and had all day breakfast for tea, very nice. I do have a confession to make, I had some coffee ice cream that’may contain gluten’ which I really shouldn’t have eaten but couldn’t give a sh!t today. That’s the first time in two years that I’ve eaten anything that may have contained gluten. Bil messaged earlier to say he’s booked Mil and mil’s sister in for a COVID jab on Friday. Don’t know what he’s been up to but obviously he’s been working hard. Looks like SWMBO and myself will be taking them to Sheffield Arena on Friday so long as they don’t have anyone change their mind for them. Tomorrows highlight will the on the tv at 8.00pm. Barnsley v Chelsea. Realistically not getting hammered would be a good result but last time we played them, again in the FA cup we won, 1:0. Goodnight, Robert 19
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted February 10, 2021 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 10, 2021 Good evening everyone Like yesterday, it never really warmed up today, again I think the high was 1C. Most of the day was spent in the cellar and both chairs have now received 1 coat of paint. I also managed to get the art work done for the TPO decals, even managing to find decent images of the royal crown to go over the GR initials. The background of these images are white, so I’ll have to print them out separately. Late this afternoon I once again ventured to the Trafford Centre to collect a parcel for Sheila, I’ve found that if you go around 4-5 o’clock it’s fairly quiet. The round trip took less than 30 minutes! Other hobbies, I’ve got a few, apart from the obvious, there’s DIY, gardening, swimming, painting and drawing, making model planes, AVFs and radio control boats, here are some examples of my art work; The old water mill at Dunham Massey Boeing B17 Roger Taylor of Queen Marilyn Monroe Finally, one of my model boats, HMS Bluebell When it came to choosing a celebrity, there was only one on my list, probably not a name familiar to many here, that is the late American singer songwriter Dan Fogelberg. For those who’ve never heard of him, check out some of the videos (particularly the live performances) on YouTube! I did try to post a link, but I was unable. 20

What about fictional characters and celebs or characters you WOULDN’T want to share the island with. I don’t think I’d want to spend time with a character from a soap opera and I think Del Boy Trotter would ‘do my head in’.I wonder what David Jason would be like as a companion. Dare I take the risk? Probably aught to watch more of SWMBO’s celeb at home programmes, er, no thanks I take a risk. Alan Turing, not a celeb in his own lifetime, but I’d like to have him explain his work. Probably need to spend a bit of time on that and have copious amounts of paper available on the island. From what I know of him, probably not a great guy to share a drink with at the beach bar. Bear, is there a beach bar where we’re going?
Erichill16
Still can’t sleep, BSW01, very nice work. HMS Bluebell, is that from the old Matchbox/Revel kit, if so I had that kit for a long time and intended building it as a radio controlled model but sold it unstarted when we moved house? Looking at your picture, I wish I’d persevered. Robert 5 1
